Personally I just use the smudge tool to do the hair, kinda like drawing/painting it IRL. However, one benefit I noticed to this method is that even in the smallest hair follicles you provide realistic lighting, very well done.

The only player events I've really been in tend to be very long and drawn out or extremely boring. In RP my character is a lot like me OOC, he likes to fight, that's his thing. Seems most of the time RP'ers shy away from PvP even of the RP...

In my experience normal attacks always do a certain damage depending on the enemy, varying maybe 1-2 points so no the normal attack's damage isn't totally random. This is definitely something worth looking in to...
