So abouts how many people are still playing MXO on Recursion?
I've just recently come back to check things out, seems quiet... then again I'm low level..
Many guilds(don't remember the MXO term for guilds 
) still around?

Actually, recursion is the middle server, Syntax is the biggest, then us, then that ikky Vector. Thing is the vast majority of recursion is already level 50 as isnt usually found in the areas that most new players can reach. Try Mara C or Camon, though most people are at random places with the event, or in Datamine.

Syntas has more players than Recursion? Looks like the people finally got tired of the drama.
That means there are 8 players there...and like 6 on Recursion.

It seemed really empty to me at first, especially compared to the population at release. But there is a good community of players here.
Depends a lot on what is happening and where. The community still has numbers but you won't find them on all the time. Syntax edges ahead on population over Recursion, but this server has a lot to offer from the playerbase still here.
Take the smith event tonight, expect to see a large amount of people about for it.

Yeah, but a lot of the people there won't be from Recursion either such as myself. 
As for Syntax-Recursion Merge? Eh, put it this way.
~Wouldn't have to grind a 50 on Recursion
~Would have a LE every other day.
~Would be with a lot of friends I have on Recursion.
~Would also merge a lot of the players personalities and such.
~Would love to see Recursion vs. Syntax PvP-Offs
Negatives:
-Merge shows that MxO is weakening further.
-Not a lot of people are happy to merge, because they don't like the other server.
-Think there's no reason for a merge.

Add to this fact that the server would be lag central and most likely could not handle the stress of even 1 live event with syntax + recursion population.
I'm definitely not for a merge. I'm well aware that Syntax has drama of their own, but they -really- do not need to deal with Recursion's drama. I like going to Syntax because I can get away from the crap here, and not worry about getting killed when I go /afk to grab a beer.
We don't need to water down Iterator any more than it already is.
