Upgrading Display Drivers

On a side-tangent...I have a laptop with the most accursed of nVidia Cards, the geForce 440. I found that recklessly throwing away nVidia's drivers and installing Omega Drivers fixed a lot of the annoying compatibility problems that croppe...

Upgrading a video card in a laptop

Nicely done! One thing I might add: if you're going to replace the video card yourself, you can often confirm if it's compatible with your mobile hardware by looking up the form factor . Not the kind of thing you'll see in the sales brochu...

Downtown Lag

You're right that RAM makes a huge difference in overall game performance, but I'm not seeing where it would affect your network response time. But yes, all those background programs that use your bandwidth do affect lag: I run SIRadio on...

In-Game Advertising

By the way, without branching into a technical issues forum: has anyone noticed an oddity about the existing advertising? I have my draw distance set to full, and I'll see signs and billboards that show an ad (for real or bogus companies)....

In-Game Advertising

I agree that CoH/CoV does a great job of managing the gaming experience, and the graphics run much better. I suspect MxO is limited by its own continuity: the world is supposed to be grays and greens. I'm glad you can turn off the green fi...

The Week in Review - August 31, 2007

Probably because they've been (literally) all over the map in the Real lately: "It's a rather busy time for those of us on the Community Team. This summer has been chalked full of events from Block Party, to Fan Faire, to every Con imagina...

The Week in Review - August 24, 2007

Thank you for telling us how you do your QA. I often wonder what goes on behind the scenes of an ongoing application like this, and it was nice to know you're doing pass/fail QA Testing. ^_^

Unofficial MxO NPC EXPLOIT tread

Update: I think my problem may have been a leveling one. I've tried to replicate it in solo, groups higher than me or lower, and I'm not seeing the 1-point-damage loop. What was puzzling about it was that an IL session wouldn't start off t...

Unofficial MxO NPC EXPLOIT tread

Thanks for the suggestions! I will give that a try. It may be that it's switching me around in the background--after all, I know some techniques are supposed to auto-switch: if I drop a Static Blast, I should be switched to Hacker, and Low...

Unofficial MxO NPC EXPLOIT tread

Thanks pack-hunter: that at least explains one side of the equation. From the Hacker side (I have another character who's a Hacker), it's frustrating to start launching an attack, have to wait for it to build, and have the NPC step out of...

Unofficial MxO NPC EXPLOIT tread

That's what's so odd about this GypsyJuggler--I actually have more of the Spy tree loaded than any other, so my profile indicates "(Spy)". The Interlock icon in the upper-right shows Self-Defense, and the active style icon (middle of the s...

Unofficial MxO NPC EXPLOIT tread

Hrm....I've been getting one lately that baffles me. It seems to only happen when I'm missioning with other players, and I haven't found a pattern to it yet. What I do know, is that it only happens when I'm running my "Jack of all trades"...

Possibly a temp file problem--need to know more about how MXO works to fix

Thanks Phi! This is good information. Ahh...DirectX 9.0c - what a series of unfortunate events, if you've seen how many dot-release flavors are floating around out there. If my video card's not quite 9.0c compliant, I can see why there'd b...

Possibly a temp file problem--need to know more about how MXO works to fix

Well, while it worked, it was nice. As I think I'd mentioned, the problem is random. I got by for a week or two, then crashed once. With the latest patch? I'm crashing like mad. And as much fun as it might be to do a complete re-install ag...

Possibly a temp file problem--need to know more about how MXO works to fix

Okay! In the interest of solving the problem--and still being able to pass the info on to others--I tried things in stages: Hardware acceleration changed in dxdiag was a no-go: still crashed New sound card drivers didn't change anything--I...

Possibly a temp file problem--need to know more about how MXO works to fix

That is an excellent suggestion phi - I hadn't thought of that. I can also say disabling hdwe accel on sound didn't help...but I found newer drivers I didn't know about, so I'll try that too and let you know how it goes. Thanks again
