#36300173161 02/23/2007 13:40:54 Downtown Lag

Hey all, we have changed how the world's region servers are carving up the different districts for some internal reasons. However I would most definately I like some players hitting downtown to see if we can get our problem to show up so we can observe the server behaviors on each of the world instances.

A note here, all previously made maps for the Lag areas of Downtown will no longer be accurate if the problem is still present (more than likely).

Thanks everyone.

Lamar was really bad the other night...the worst I've ever seen.

Just means we have to try to break it again to see if the problems been fixed.  Only this time we dont know which districts will lag with the changes they made so run around all of downtown, kill mobs, run some missions and invite your friends.
#36300173289 02/23/2007 15:22:34 Re:Downtown Lag
Lag seems to go up during long distance hyperjumps. Thus far, the overall lag appears to be less, but it's too soon to make a judgement.

I've tested interlocking, freefiring, looting, commands, using the hardline, opening doors, using elevators, and hyperjumping around every DT hardline. I haven't gotten any of the usual DT latency or lag.

Me neither. Park East is usually a no-go zone for me but not anymore it seems. Hampton was also lagless.
#36300173383 02/23/2007 18:33:25 Re:Downtown Lag
The lag has kicked in on Syntax. Nothing on Recursion or Vector yet.

The lag zone boundaries have moved due to the server redistribution. Thought I should show it so people know what to watch out for when it kicks in. Apologies to Darun for mangling his lovely map.

Blue = old lag zone

Red = new lag zone

The yellow dot is the world origin (position 0, 0, 0). Probably not a coincidence that it has been in both lag zones. Also nice how the zones have centered around Hel. =P
#36300173404 02/23/2007 19:01:06 Re:Downtown Lag
Noooooo! You moved the lag zone over my hang-out spot on the Chelsea Bridge! You monsters!! /cry

;) Uh, anyway, did this little test help you figure anything out?

And why does it look like it's twice as big as the old one? O_o You really broke it this time!
#36300173437 02/23/2007 20:39:07 Re:Downtown Lag
I hope that we were able to help tonight, 9mm. If you need any more help, you know how to contact us.

Seems the event on Vector did not adversely "break" the servers and cause the lag, yet. Farming earlier on Recursion in Baldwin Heights was very easy, as there was no lag. It sure would have been a pain otherwise. SMILEY
#36300173441 02/23/2007 20:42:46 Re:Downtown Lag
Meh, my favorite theory right now is that it's lost mission NPCs trying to path to the world origin. Unlike Slums and International, in Downtown, the world origin point is inaccessible.

I'm worried about Seraph now, some of that lag is in the aqueduct :ppp

Probably because a lot of the new region servers are utterly huge, judging from current /who ranges.

I mean Apollyon, Camon Heights, and Kedemoth have the same /who range?  That's massive.
#36300173757 02/24/2007 09:29:20 Re:Downtown Lag
I am on the Syntax Server

I didn't experience any lag while farming in Park East or working on a Pandora's Box in the Historic District.  9mmfu showed up during the box, I told him this then, but I should probably post this as well.

Interesting theory Rarebit, is it posible to move the origin so that it is accessible?

So now my faction's hangout hardline of Chelsea NW has both lag and mobs of level 255 agents... conspiracy, I say. -_-;

Anyway the lag was noticable last night in the machine EPN event...
#36300173806 02/24/2007 11:00:43 Re:Downtown Lag

I would like to point out that there seems to be a slight but distinct improvement in performance in the game.  I didn't see this thread until today, but it was clear to me yesterday that you guys had changed the region servers due to this, and the altered /who ranges I was getting since the server restarted.

Interactions (opening a door, for example) seem to have sped up slightly.  The same can be said for hardline travel and other teleportation methods.  And the code vision seems to clear up faster for me.  I'll admit that these apparent speed increases may just be in my head.  But this is coming from someone who has been playing MxO since October of '04 and never left once.

Okay, on Recursion...Downtown lag has never been worse. I keep getting transported to other places, getting stuck under the world, abilitys have huge delays -- I feel like it's the areas of the Blue Sky Event all over again.

And it's my entire faction seeing it, too. And I know it's not my computer.

Yeah, Downtown is pretty boned right now.

Except on Syntax, where Dracomet stuffed all the lag into Pillsen.

Maybe because its name sounds like "Pillsbury"?

Pillsen lag pizza rolls.  And their dough boy doesn't giggle until ten minutes after its poked in the belly.

It's also tiny and hilly and mostly a freeway, except for some tall buildings around the side. It's kind of like Downtown's speed bump (especially now :p).

Speed Bump? How about a "DO NOT ENTER OR WE'LL CRASH YOUR COMPUTER" sign with big flashing lights? XD

I was in downtown tonight, mainly in Chelsea, and I really didn't experience any lag.  I fought some NPCs and did a neighborhood contact mission, everything seems to be ok in Chelsea.

When I said "our descendants have to battle it", I was implying that they'd win, not die horribly. SMILEY

But in all seriousness, is it possible to tuck it away in a place where players don't go, like the Aqueduct?

Ok picture this:
You are in downtown and then suddenly you see a gang NPC that you want to kill. You double click on them to get into interlock then 10 seconds later you atcually go into interlock.

Is the "10 seconds later you atcually go into interlock" caused by the downtown lag. I'm asking here because I don't want to make a topic and look like an idiot, although maybe I already have SMILEY

If your in downtown and this happens this yes its the downtown lag.  Look at the meter on the bottom right of your screen and if its all red then theres going to be lag for you.

Hmm, Downtown is problem-free for today. Anyone want to bet 1 million info on the servers being lag free for a week?

Tends to be okay for a few days after a reboot. ;)

Is there any way of doing a district re-boot? I'd be more than happy to withstand a couple of minutes inaccesability to downtown, while the area is being re-booted every couple of days. It's better than the lagtown.
#36300178849 03/03/2007 06:28:55 Re:Downtown Lag
It follows a pretty simple cycle. For some time after a reboot the DT lag is low, after 1-3 days the lag suddenly goes through the roof and the center of DT becomes unplayable. For some reason during the Halloween event the DT lag didn't kick in till much later than normal.
If you are reading this my sig didn't work T_T

#36300180488 03/05/2007 12:30:30 Re:Downtown Lag

Since you guys are going to add code to get information on the Downtown lag in the next patch, is there anything specific we can do to help?  Or should we just do things normally?  Or maybe both just in case?

#36300180582 03/05/2007 14:27:11 Re:Downtown Lag
We've been through Creston and Baldwin yesterday and I hate to say it, but the lag was back again. Everyone's meter turned fully red.
#36300181651 03/06/2007 19:53:08 Re:Downtown Lag

As of right now both Hampton Green and Chelsea are lag free on Recursion. I noticed when jumping off the tall building next to Club Hel my backflip jump animation was slightly stumpy shorter than normal which I recognize as an effect of lag but the latency bar shows nothing and I see no other recognizable effects of lag. I got a full red latency spike when I first came out of the hardline in Hampton but after that nothing. Seems like maybe something is still going on in these parts, but the improvement is substantial to say the least.

Running on high textures, high character shadows, max ext distance, low weather detail, prop and building shadows on, high ram usage, anti aliasing on, water reflections, overbright and green tint off, and no useropts:

Chelsea SC @50fps With latency occasionally spiking to two bars.

Chelsea NC @50fps with latency occasionally spiking to two bars.

Lamar S @40fps with latency occasionally spiking to three bars.

From Maribeau E running into Hampton Green towards Penhurst-Amaranth and Club Paradise Lost, fps drops to 25-35 and latency hangs around 2-3 bars but still drops down to one.  Explored Club Paradise Lost, latency is same as the outside area.

Continuing the run to Club Hel, latency and FPS remains about the same at 2-3 bars with fps ranign from 25-35.

Standing in front of the garage entrance to Club Hel @30fps with latency holding firm at 2-3 bars. If I move or rotate, the latency usually drops but seems to build up again when I stand still facing the garage entrance.

I have no idea what any of that means lol, hopefully it helps.

I think you moved the DT lag to richalnd which also shares it with westview. Am I right? I can see that my tells are so slow as are my jumps and reactions ingame.
#36300190383 03/18/2007 13:31:04 Re:Downtown Lag

Is this why it is possible to 'kill' spawn points in DT?

If you are farming and are killing the same gang members over and over eventually stop spawning, is this why?  I have only had this happening in DT

Darkhawk's Gallery | Section 9's Past | Metal Gear?! It's already active?!
There can only be room for one Snake, and one Big Boss!

today, park east for farming the clothing frags that dont drop often enough -cof- was ok as long as i was more than about 45m from the HL.. park east C i think. it was odd. you could clearly see things slow down a bit once you got back within 'baseball' range of the HL =/
