well hes bascially saying Crappy JPEG compression FTW they guys saved it in very low jpeg format, see most of use say 70 - 80% compression, that looks like 5% , or something just as bad... lower the compression, the worse the quality is of...

i agree , i did it to show what i meant , i remember seeing coolice first use that style ;P, but yea using "duplicate" layer and apply scree on the layer, copy that then apply soft light in a 30% opacity really adds brightness to an image,...

one thing you might want to try is make another layer, cut out the gargoyle itself, apply > sharpen, an then opacity it into the layer below, maybe 60%, makes it stand out a bit more.. eg you had also adding screen/soft light with the shar...
