Walrus, you left the other thread locked.  Also isn't it "Rogers Way", not "Rodgers" Way?

I see Enigma of Cryptos on the frontpage, will there be developements
about this soon.  Will it just be in critical missions?

#34800000056 11/18/2005 18:22:41 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
Looking forward to the updates Walrus and glad to see your working on LESIG!

And..

Your coming to Ohio???? I'm in Ohio..and...I just might have to capture me a Walrus next week :smileyvery-happy:

If I could meet you, I'd shake your hand and give you some /dap...(and /slip $20 so I can meet persephone haha)

Good to see your working on some long standing bugs, and the new
content looks like it shall be interesting.  Can't wait to play on
the test server and see the new slums!

  • Escort NPC in "Sending a Message" is now higher-level instead of being a complete noob.
  • Escort NPC in "A Second Try" is now higher-level so it doesn't get completely ganked.

  • Escort NPC in "Model Citizen" is now higher-level so you don't have to completely babysit it throughout the mission.
  • Escort NPC in "Just a Few Questions" is now higher-level because it felt left out after all the rest got leveled

Code bits are stacking again, that's the best part about this patch. Or maybe the SOE mail. And the elevator doors are working properly. Well done you guys, keep up the good work:smileyvery-happy:

Definitely sounds like a good patch.  Those elevator doors in particular were irritating me.  Glad to see that's going to be taken care of.
#34800000079 11/18/2005 18:52:47 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
Great new with the SOE mail but I would like to be able to trade items across servers for just a day or let the devs do it. You see Vector has a certain code laucher that doesn't exist on either of the other worlds and Recursion has a certain pair of glasses that dosnt exist on either. This mail system could finally give us a chance to populate all servers with those items.
#34800000080 11/18/2005 18:55:47 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
I really can't wait for this patch. The new live event looks like it'll be crazy fly too.

Very nice patch, I look forward to seeing it, and the test server deploy.

#34800000084 11/18/2005 19:00:37 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
I’ll personally be crushing to get LESIG off the ground before I depart for exotic Ohio for Thanksgiving.

This is the bit I enjoyed reading. After such a long wait in Mobil Ave. are we finally going to see light at the end of that tunnel? Especially as the new event banner is now up I hope that LESIG starts before this event does to ensure that things run smoothly =D

Question for the US players, when is Thanksgiving? We don't have that in Japan so I'm clueless as to when it actually is.

This patch looks pretty sweet!! New Cine!!!

#34800000086 11/18/2005 19:09:56 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
With the threat from the Assassin ended, Kill-Codes have degraded and are no longer usable.

Awwww now I have to say good bye to my Kill-code too. But I guess this raises more questions about the Neurophyte stuff. If the kill-code is removed from the game (which never had a connection to the Assassin anyhow) does that mean they are writing her out completely now? Or are they resetting that part of the storyline and bringing her back in full health on all servers? How will that help with differences in alignment? Hmmzorz...
#34800000124 11/21/2005 11:00 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread

Answers to a few questions:

New players will begin in Uriah Industrial so the content can increase in difficulty as players head south and east. Tabor Park is a bit too central, so it makes increasing the surrounding levels  more complicated. Other than that, it's the consensus the designers came to.

The new-player Contacts aren't forced on new players--they can ignore them if they like. However, the portions I've played through are really handy for a new player; including things like adding Waypoints, using a Simulacra, and learning about collecting gang icons for trade. Oh, and one of the Collectors gives new players a better gun to use than ye olde Redpill Special. (Nothing new, just much better.)

The Halloween masks were originally supposed to be tradable, but were accidentally set incorrectly. We'll be fixing that issue in December, so you'll have to wait a bit longer to email them to an alternate character, but you will be able to do so if you choose.

Loving the e-mail! ^_^ Quick question, though... can we send mail to a large group, say a faction, just by using the faction name? I know SWG guild leaders had the power to send "guild mail"

Is that a possiblility?
#34800000145 11/22/2005 11:53:54 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
The ability to create distribution lists would be very powerful, but being able to email an entire faction would rock.

One question I have for Walrus, if he would be so kind as to forward it onto the SOE email designers...

Is possible for you to have the email client recognise URL's in emails,
and support the ability to invoke the users web browser upon clickage?
Pasting forum threads and other community URL's would be highly
desirable; and launching Firefox after this clickage would be quite fantastic.

I doubt folder support is possible, although it would be nice.

The only other things I would want from a SOE email update would be:

BBCode support for basic email formatting.

The ability to to create client-side drafts, or email templates.

Thanks Walrus for the constant communication, excellent patch.

Furthermore...

As our buddy list is the closest thing we have to an address book,
would the SOE email designers please take under consideration an option
to right-click on a player name in the buddy list, with an option to
send an email to that player? Naturally the email composition window
would have the To: field already populated.

This would be a massive help.

Clarification on whether or not you have plans for multiple attachments
(there is UI space in the composition window) would be great.

Thanks,

Ok. To have an email system is cool. But while i tried to hack in a long mail to inform my crew about changes i´m planning like setting Eventdates and publish them with our allnew great mailsystem, different people have been telling to me. And i was not able to response.... first i decided to go on with my mail to tell the others what i want to tell... but while i was trying to force my mind more tells came in and things like "hey. Why don´t you response?"..."still there?"..."hello?!?"...."What do you think does this new cinematic mean?"....
....and then i canceled my mail .... said rude things to my computer, breathed 3 times to calm down and then started an as constructive and objective as possible post here.

Not beeing able to chat while coding/compiling is bad enough. But here i can wait to finish the current procedure, type some things to my mates and then continue compiling.

But it could be abused.  "Forward this to 30 people and you will be

please forward as much as you can" spam mails in mxo. LoL. Why do

IMPORTANT!!!

There seems to be some sort of decay bug, causing your clothes to loose stability points rapidly. It happens mostly when switching load outs, particularly when unloading abilities. I haven't narrowed it down to which abilities, and I don't have enough clothes to waste trying.

Yeah. How can we improve activity in our factions by setting dates for faction events. like large scale missiontrips, pvp, or RP when we have to type every  name  every time and hope not to forget anyone.

#34800000156 11/23/2005 11:45:25 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
Looks like someone beat me to it, but I was going to suggest the email
system be expanded so that faction leaders can send a message to all
their members, same thing for crew captains as well. (Speaking of which
faction leaders need some better tools, ever try to see who is in
another crew, or just wonder how full a crew is, etc, etc.)

Anyway, lots of new stuff in this patch, I like it. one of my fav's
which I can't beleive no one else mentioned, is the fact that NPC gangs
now have moods, when before they would all just stand around like
normal. (Awesome little bug is that a lvl 4 will use a lvl 13 mood,
don't fix it, I think it's rather funny).

As far as the item decay, I have noticed very high decay on my lancet,
it was full yellow, now it's half red, I unequiped it after seeing it.

Overall awesome patch.

#34800000157 11/23/2005 14:38:50 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread

I'm kind of baffled about the item decay.  Walrus confirms accelerated decay rates in items from Richland and Westview, but people are experiencing accelerated decay in items which are _not_ from those areas.

QA in others areas obviously leaves something to be desired.  Have the QA folks (or folk)/devs looked into whether the accelerated decay rates have been inadvertantly applied to almost _every_thing, not just the items Walrus listed?

Otherwise, it's kind of inexplicable how a Lancet suddenly starts unravelling as has been described.

For the time being I'm wearing civilian clothes only.  It's an interesting challenge to live in the Matrix with no buffed items.  I did my crits that way and I didn't waltz right through it like I usually do.  Plus, I looked good, **bleep** good SMILEY

Actually I'm putting a positive spin on a negative that needs to be addressed immediately.   The two mega problems I see is:

1)  Non-Slums/Barrens unique items breaking down insanely fast.

2)  Veterans, ie. 50's who have to recamp items will have no chance anymore to get the rarer items.  We'll all be stuck with the lowest-level buffed items (at least this is what I'm lead to believe based on the rules of boss drops).

Please fix ASAP.

#34800000159 11/24/2005 01:23:28 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
How about involving some of your lower level members in those hideout raids so that they actually get to feel like they're contributing to the faction?
#34800000160 11/24/2005 08:02:38 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
Negative on using newbies who don't know what they are doing. The rest

#34800000161 11/24/2005 09:34:09 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread

Ok that explains the reason for decay. But 5 points in an hour!!! They might as well just removed the items from my inventory!

So what's going to happen when International and Downtown get the 'Reflow' treatment? Are those Items going tp decay too?

Yeah it's a disaster.  Like mxoAmis said, why not delete the old items from our inventory.  But if they do that they have to fix the boss drop rules that punish us veterans (no one in our faction is lower than 49 as far as I know).  One or the other.  Leaving the boss drop rules in place is unfair.

They best not reflow Int'l and DT.  What's the frikken point?  I can see for n00bs the geographical flow of Slums and Barrens.  Oh and by the way the Crowbars are higher level than the Bathory Boys so that throws the whole geographical flow argument out the window (for that matter why did they bother reflowing the Barrens in the 1st place?  It just doesn't make any sense).  I get the Slums thing but that's it...(and kudos for the devs for making the new Uriah entry a nice easy way to get a new gamer started.  Good job guys.  The Industrial pants and shirt look hawt on female toons too SMILEY ).

Int'l and DT should remain a pastiche of different neighborhoods with different skill levels.  If you need hand-holding in Int'l and DT (and for that matter, Barrens), by that time you're lame and should stick to the Sims or something less challenging.  Or you shoulda took the blue pill...lol.

Oh and while I'm on my rant the whole concept of item decay in the first place doesn't make any sense.  In the whole trilogy you don't see Morpheus' purple vest decay, or Trinity's catsuit decay.  And what about Exiles or Agents or Bluepills?  Why do their clothes last foever?  Item decay is counter-intuitive and if I remember correctly someone once said somewhere that SOE was considering scrapping the decay thing altogether.

Bottom line this decay thing and its resultant problems is taking away from the immersion of the game, thereby taking away from the enjoyment of the game.

Because those were the HL's
that newbies previously started off with, so before the reflow, we
already had all of them, so there was no need to tag them, which is not
the case now.

It took me like 10 minutes to tag them. lol
#34800000166 11/24/2005 19:58:59 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
It seems to me that item decay forces you to eventually go back and get the items again. That gives 50's something to do other than create alternate characters and mess with everyone else, aside from PvP.

So I can see item decay, even though I don't particularly like it.

As for the rapid decay of recent items: It gives us a chance to still use the items while working toward getting another one. I think that's why they didn't just delete them. It like a "grace period".

Otherwise, the patch has worked fine other than some minor (in my opinion, anyway) bugs with server stability which seems to be fixed now.

Thank heaven for bit stacking!!

The bit stacking is nice, but the stability issue is a problem for the reasons I presented upthread.  It's the inconsistancy that's the problem.   Why should I have to recamp everything, especially now that because of boss drop rules I will always get the lowest value item?  Think about it.  No more Steady or Solid Sneakers.  No more Defiled or Fighter's Gloves.  No more Ravenstail or Ravensfeather.  No more Black or Deep Shadow jacket.  No more Perception or Watcher's Shades.  This is fundamentally unfair.  I'm not going to level up alt toons solely for the purpose of recamping everything and emailing them to my main toon.  The game is supposed to be fun, not a chore of hoops you have to jump through just to get where you once were in the first place.

We have to be hard on SOE if they are going to do anything.  Some of us were hard on Monolith during beta but our persistance paid off and many issues were resolved.   Not only do we need to get out of the ghetto of the SOE MMORPG family, but they need to realize that their customers are paying good money for a service, and we have every right to demand that the service we is up to par.  Otherwise the game is going to die off, plain and simple.  I don't want it to.  That's why I'm harping on this issue, becose I love this game and I want it to succeed, and I don't want to see it continue to disaffect good paying customers to the point that they cancel their subscriptions.

#34800000168 11/25/2005 02:12:39 Re: Update 38 Discussion Thread
So far as I can see it:

The game is fundamentally flawed (ironically) in several areas where
other MMOs are strong. New-player-progressing, balance items and
combat, etc.

Monolith took this path and had only the resources to plow ahead with
it. SOE has the resources to turn it around and fix the flaws that are
turning people away from the game.

Unfortunately, we've all become used to the flaws - for the most part.

But as they are so entrenched in many of the games systems, a LOT has to be rewritten and changed to make the game right.

As a result, they can't NOT make big changes. Sacrifice is needed to ensure the longterm survival of the game.

I'm not saying I like my items destabilising. But if it means they're
one or two steps closer to fixing the game into a state where many
people will want to play it and not get hopeleslly lost at the first
hurdle, then I'm prepared to take it on the chin.

People whinge far too much without looking at the bigger picture
sometimes. Yes, we pay for the game. In all honesty, if these changes
stop you enjoying it, then stop playing it.

However if they are an annoyance which can be overcome, and you want the game to succeed in the long term, suck it up.

Negative.  We shouldn't have to "suck it up" or suck up to SOE either.  If something is fundamentally unfair, like those things about which I posted upthread in elaborate detail, fight like bloody hell to get it fixed.  I'm no rocket scientist but it seems to me that:  1) a business is designed to generate profit, and   2) profit will decrease if customers are being treated unfairly.

I don't get this complaint at all.  You also didn't see the characters getting experience points for killing enemies.  You also didn't the characters looting bodies for info, clothing and what not.  You also didn't see any of the neighborhood names that you see in the game like Mara and Uriah.

Just because you didn't SEE it in the movies, doesn't mean it didn't happen or that the devs shouldn't feel free to impliment it into the game.

what about Exiles or Agents or Bluepills?  Why do their clothes last foever?

I don't imagine Bluepill clothing to be made of the same coding.  But even so, how do you know their clothes last forever.  There are tons of different Bluepills, and unless you are jacked in 24/7 to follow on of the Bluepills all around Mega City to make sure they never change their clothes, you can never be sure.

And Agents and Exiles come and go.  So how do you know that when they are away, they aren't getting new suits or repairing their current ones.

Bottom line is this complaint of yours is groundless.

Alright then let's talk about your other complaint that IS about u38.  The Bathory Boys are lower level than Crowbars.  Wrong, Bathory Boys are level 25-30.  Crowbars - 25-30.  Since Stamos and Bathory are right next to each other, this doesn't "throw that concept out the window".

Who cares, stop trying to change the subject.  Sigh.  I guess I have to restate the problem since you've derailed the thread somewhat by going over minutia that's not relevant.

And for the record I have no problem with the stability loss of collector / unique items from The Slums and The Barrens.  I have no problem with re-camping or recollecting for said items.  Sure it's an annoyance, but whatever.  The devs wanted to phase them out and this is how they chose to go about it.  *shrug*

But there are two problems that must be fixed:

1)  Non Slums/Barrens unique / collector items breaking down at an insane rate.

2)  The boss drop rules prevent 50's from ever getting the rarer unique items again.  Think about it.  Say bye bye to Watchers Shades, Fighters Gloves, Dragonskin Wrap, Direwolf Coat, etc.  If you don't believe me, check out Apoth's informative post on the subject:

Fix these two problems and we're good to go.  Simple as that.

What non-Richland/Westview loot is decaying fast? None of my clothing is decaying at a faster rate.
