INFLUENCE BONUSES!!! OMGWTFBBQ

Walrus... I love you man. Now when can we play on the Qa? SMILEY
#10300001992 01/05/2006 17:23:01 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
I just realized influence is not MxO money... though uh.. giving our money for all our levelable abilities is pretty awesome.
#10300001993 01/05/2006 17:24:34 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread

Ability Codes Post CR2.0

Surprisingly, I haven’t seen anyone asking about Abilities and Ability Codes. The decisions regarding Abilities were more difficult than those about items. Simply put, we are refunding the Information values of all the Abilities on your characters and the cost of leveling them (if they are levelable).

it shocked me a bit reading about that cause I have fought to get all my trees leveled up. But we do get all info back from the related abilities? and then we have to obtain the ability again and level it up?

I just got really, really confused.

I'm a visual learner, so I'll probably understand it once I play on the QA SMILEY

#10300001999 01/05/2006 17:36:21 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
AWESOME

First, all current rare clothing I was very nervous what they were
gonna do, either introduce the new clothing and ditch the old clothing,
but automatically changing the stats so we can keep the clothing is
very cool.

Refunding Info for all levelable abilities also rocks. I have all
abilities leveled, I'm going to have like a billion Info on CR2.0. SMILEY

I also like the fact that different styles now switch automatically.

*sigh*

Though what did see, I did of course like.

Shhh...they're saving the best for last!   The SPY update...muwahahahah!

I'm guessing we won't work all that well in interlock..much like we don't know.  More or less just a plain old awakened in defense mode or something.

Bullet Time is not changed but the frequency is higher. You’ll also see the blurring dodge effect occur more often while you’re in Interlock combat.

I like that.

We are ready as soon as QA is SMILEY
Thanks for the information, I was so hungry for news.

Holy crap... and it just keeps on getting better!  Love the $i refund, and everything else about CR2.0 sounds awesome too.  Can't wait for QA.  But who is the dev that writes these journals?  C'mon, give em some credit!  SMILEY
#10300002007 01/05/2006 17:58:48 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Archon writes them.

I just hope I get fully refunded, I have every levelable ability maxed in my code archive.. that's a ton of Info! lol
#10300002008 01/05/2006 18:03:32 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread

Combat Miscellany

All attacks are considered directed and require an accuracy roll including things such as melee attacks, debuffs, and viral attacks. Your accuracy roll is compared to the appropriate Attribute to see if you succeed. For example, your Melee Free-Attack will succeed if your accuracy roll exceeds your target’s Defense score.

Your Style and Tactics choices modify your combat Attributes. Even more than before, The Matrix Online is about choice.

Bullet Time is not changed but the frequency is higher. You’ll also see the blurring dodge effect occur more often while you’re in Interlock combat.

We still have some more details to release and will get them out as we can. My hope is that both veteran and new players enjoy this period of discovery as you get your feet wet in the new combat and Ability system. I’m excited about how this will change gameplay and character growth and hope you all will be, too.

Those two things make me want to play QA, ASAP!  MORE AND MORE BULLET TIME PLEASE!!!  I love it that there is going to be an increase in bullet time.
#10300002009 01/05/2006 18:04:33 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
It seems really great.

I can't wait for the QA server.

Interlock,

"One opponent versus another opponent only."

Wont this kind of nerf the Assassins more so then they already are?

#10300002011 01/05/2006 18:04:51 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Oh god.. this sounds absolutely, positely the most amazing thing that's going to happen to MXO so far. I can't wait for QA and the eventual, final release. SMILEY

#10300002013 01/05/2006 18:08:21 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
that would be nice but im not sure that will happen well i guess only time will tell.

#10300002014 01/05/2006 18:10:39 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Hey Walrus, I'm hoping your planning to give back frags and codebits
too, because on one server with a combined population from 3
servers......Codebits and Frags will be worth more than info.  I'd
also like my money and frags back from my Zen master abilites while
your at it SMILEY

All and all, I thought the article was well written and very very interesting! I can't wait to see it!

#10300002015 01/05/2006 18:36:11 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread

Everything looks fine and dandy I guess.  And if influenence is the same or will act  the same as attribute point additions then why change the name.  It reminds me of an old saying I can't remember off handSMILEY

I'm happy about the fact that the fighting style will change as you use an ablity that applies to that style.

I'm also liking the sound of the 3 ring idea.  It will keep each class where it belongs.  If A knife thrower wants to do the most damage he has to be on the outer circle to do so it seems.  It will get those pesky interlock hackers off my back.

I'm still a little confused about the ability/info situation.  Are they just giving us our info back or what?  It seems that they had to tweak most of the ablities so when we log on we won't have any ablities loaded and we will have to buy all new ones.  Can we get a clarification on this situation? While I'll  be a little upset at the latter, if it makes for a better game and increases subscriptions then im all for it. It's just gonna be hectic. I mean maybe they can set up frag vendors so the masses arent all trying to camp for the same frags.  I can tell ya now there will be people leaving no matter what if they gotta remake all of their ablities. And If I gotta wait in line behind 30 people to camp for frags for ablities then I'm gone to.

#10300002016 01/05/2006 18:45:46 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
is memory cost going to be similar and is our memory limit still going to be 100 or do we gain access to all moves at all times and only the best tactics and strategies win?
#10300002017 01/05/2006 18:50:52 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Sweet... just good sweetness:smileyhappy:

sooooo when is QA??

#10300002018 01/05/2006 18:52:46 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
I almost forgot, Welcome Back Archon!
Great to have you back.  I'm sure Walrus did great while you were gone, but still good to know "The Man" is back.
#10300002019 01/05/2006 19:07:22 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Cynical comment (prepares for flames):   I notice a lot of Broadcast Depth thread posts are like, "OMG I love it sooo much I can't wait I luv you OMGBBQ C.U 2.0 R0x0rz!!!" without knowing exactly what it's going to entail.  I appreciate your enthusiasm, but bring it down a notch otherwise the devs are gonna think everything is wonderful when in fact what might be needed is constructive criticism to make the game better.

I'm looking for red flags that might cause problems down the road.  For example, are all our abilities taken from us so we have to farm red frags and code them again?  I know we're getting info refunds but the rest is unclear.  If my abilities are still in my code inventory that would be awesome.  If we're stripped clean that's going to be a headache.

One thing I'd like to see is a toggle to shut off the more cartoony effects of combat and the red damage numbers that always pop up.  Kinda like the toggle that lets you remove the nametags when you're frapping or something.  That would give you a hella immersion effect!!!   Wow.

The most positive thing about this is that we're gonna have a QA server to test this stuff rather than having it just foisted upon us, then having to deal with the resultant bugs that it may cause, which is a headache for the devs and players alike.

I expect us all to give clear, constructive criticism.  Our job is to make this game the best it can be.  Be honest everyone, if you see a bug or a flaw (or something that works really well) let the devs know!
#10300002020 01/05/2006 19:18:39 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Okay! when we have all this lunched the abbiltes and the new stuff Can we beat agents? because all i wnat to do is beat an agent butt?
#10300002021 01/05/2006 19:18:41 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
update looks great lol, if i wasnt soo sleepy id read it, but looks great, and i think it will help the combat SMILEY
#10300002022 01/05/2006 19:27:26 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
You'll never beat an agent one on one.  If you could then you would have broke free from the matrix long ago. Until you become The One ill forget the question was answered.
#10300002023 01/05/2006 19:34:28 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
sounds like 2 things are going to happen, everyone will be exactly the same, (loadout, influcence points, etc.)and the assassin tree is dead. So there are no real "choices" as usual within mxo.
#10300002024 01/05/2006 19:42:21 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
I am a bit confused, will we still be able to switch class/loadout at any time? Or our we fixed as one job?

The refund got me to think this was the case, but the talk of the
fighting styles changed that, and sort of confused me. Anyone know, or
can help me out?

Thanks..

#10300002025 01/05/2006 19:43:53 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Cirakyn, were all waiting for the same answers as you on that question.  Maybe sometime this week they'll answer it! lol j/k
#10300002026 01/05/2006 19:48:06 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
I'm eager to test this, will the cost of leveling abilities change?
#10300002027 01/05/2006 19:51:32 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Maybe by the grace of the MxO gods they release QA tomorrow?

#10300002028 01/05/2006 19:57:07 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
I'm just hoping we still have all our abilities coded and stored in our archive, but not leveled. It would be a pain to recode everything from scratch. =/
#10300002029 01/05/2006 19:58:00 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
This is true and makes me a bit uneasy since I have nearly every single tree.
#10300002030 01/05/2006 19:59:33 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Same here...
#10300002031 01/05/2006 19:59:54 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Once again, as with the screens and vid, no matter what this sounds liek or looks like, in all depends on what it's like when we use it. And everyones imagination is dif. I'm goin to reserve my opinion for now
#10300002032 01/05/2006 20:01:59 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread

Hmm.... I'm assuming that the refund only covers the abilities we currently own? I had a partially leveled spy tree I sold off on the market awhile back...

I know, I'm greedy. Ask King Caw. Lol.

#10300002033 01/05/2006 20:08:15 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Well, I have every ability in the game uploaded, and all abilities to level 50 or maxed that can be, so I'm looking forward to seeing a ton of Info in my inventory (hopefully I don't get jipped lol), but I'll cry if I have nothing uploaded in my archive.. it would take days to get everything back.. and I like to have everything because I'm a perfectionist! :smileyvery-happy:

In the options, you can already turn-off the damage numbers (called Combat Text, I believe).  There's also a separate option for turning-off Visual Effects (i.e., the cartoony effects which I personally can't stand).  However, there's currently a bug which ties that setting to combat sound effects, so when you turn off the visual effects you also can't hear gun shots or melee hits/swooshes; and that's not a very good trade-off since I want the sound effects.

But that's for another thread.

Still, I agree: much more immersion if we could remove them.

#10300002035 01/05/2006 20:31:41 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread

Surprisingly, I haven’t seen anyone asking about Abilities
and Ability Codes. The decisions regarding Abilities were more difficult than
those about items. Simply put, we are refunding the Information values of all
the Abilities on your characters and the cost of leveling them (if they are
levelable).

I understand this is not an ideal choice for everyone, but
it is the most logical and feasible. All Abilities with any combat value have
been touched, so the odds are that a few players may no longer want a
particular Ability for one reason or another. Refunding Information gives
everyone a clean slate to make new choices.

Obviously, the big question on everyone's mind is does this mean they are exchanging our abilities for info?  The "this is not an ideal choice for everyone" statement makes me think that is the case.  If so, this needs to be optional.  While information is hard to come by, farming red frags is definitely the hardest part of obtaining abilities.  It took me a very long time to create all of my abilities, and asking all of us to do that again is  not reasonable.  We need a clarification on this, please.

#10300002036 01/05/2006 20:45:50 Re: Designer Journal 3, Part 2 - Feedback Thread
Ive been farming red frags in anticipation of this.  They didnt mention how coding was changing at all so they may end up being useless although i doubt they would do that.  If your worried about red frags, start getting them now.
