Archival Missions

Our current top priority is the introduction of Archival Missions. In short: All players will be able to play through the critical missions from past chapters for all three Organizations. These missions won’t affect your reputation with your current Organization.

Each Organization’s Archivist Vendor will have special tickets for sale for these missions. Players can purchase one and use it to launch the mission. When you complete these missions, you’ll earn a token that can be turned in later with other mission tokens for reward items.

The archival missions are now undergoing testing for release in Update 45. Then even new players will get to experience the full storyline of The Matrix Online.

White Hallways

No, not white rooms—white hallways. You know, the hallways that lead to backdoors in the system. Yes, they exist in The Matrix Online. And, after some time and testing, we plan on bringing them to you.

The plan is to make white hallways accessible by taking special missions. There will be three possible “backdoors”—one for each Organization. These doors will lead to special Org-only areas where Crews and Factions can meet in private.

The team’s been doing a lot of work on them over the past few months and we’ll begin testing soon.

#10300003408 06/10/2006 03:45:38 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, June 9, 2006

I'm assuming it is org specific area rather than faction because with the mission system it seems relatively simple to do. Accept a critical mission from your controller and then the mission leads you to a specific room in the white hallways which the rest of your org is also lead to. No other orgs can enter it because they don't have mission access. Either way I love it, really looking forward to just another piece of depth added to the matrix.

And I also think that QA will be big in testing out the Org abilities.

Brilliant overall.

This is absolutely awsome it really is, but will you make special areas for Cypherites and E Pluribus Neo as well? or is that in the future?

I wonder if the white hallways look the same as they did when I saw them many moons ago. :smileywink:

However, if they're finally opening them up, I wonder if the future could bring jumping from Debir Court to the Ascension monument, and such. And in a touch I would simply adore the team for, I wonder if the Machinist room could be the Architect's lair.

Speaking of inaccessible floors, perhaps the end of the Anome saga will require those infamous hallways somehow.

First off I want to say, thank you for this looking glass.  I loved reading about the future of the game, and I hope you continue to put them into your atricles.  Even if you have no ETA, it will still keep people interested and hopeful.

I know I can be a jerk at times, but I too, like everyone else and devs included, want to see this game one day become what it should have been from day one.  And maybe be able to compete on the same level of World of Warcraft.  I do realize there will be these tiny steps along the way.

keep up the good work, devs and keep the information, no matter  how small flowing.
#10300003417 06/10/2006 07:58:49 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, June 9, 2006
This is great news, although I must admit I am not that thrilled by either developments. I would rather have a new area to explore and new types of missions (not just the critical, assasinate, etc) instead of old ones that we could access with our alt characters if we wanted to, lol.

However I'd like to add a couple of very annoying bugs which I hope the devs also know about.

The evade bug. NPCs in hideouts and open areas (not seen it in missions strangely enough) seem to randomly go into evade, instantly regenerating their HP. Solution might be to destroy the npc and respawn it immediately instead of going into evade mode, so that it is reset and not in evade mode for some minutes.

Body stacking in missions. When doing pandora's box missions bodies pile up and you can't loot all of them. This is particularly annoying for PB Box mission 4 where you need to retrieve a key from a body to open the door to the boss. I've had to abort many box4 missions with keys stuck under bodies. Solution here would be to let the empty bodies disappear like they do everywhere else, allowing us access the ones below it.

Devs would make me and a whole load of other players very happy to see these old old bugs fixed.

A couple of things to help us day to day would be also welcome, such as sorting on the inventory in the load out area for abilities, code bits and frags and additional filters in the market window. (e.g. female/male, min level, attribute/stat filters)

I just have to add to this thread. I read over the white hallways part of the O.S.O.T.L.G twice just to be sure I wasn't seeing things.  It sounds to me like the coolest thing since sliced bread.
One of the BEST add ons for mXo to date!

Great to see that new content is being developed.

Walrus, can you clarify whether the areas that the white hallways lead to will be faction-specific or organization-specific?

The critical mission archive will allow us to play critical missions from previous chapters, which is something we currently cannot do no matter how many alts we have.

All this stuff sounds great, but...

When is the next Live Event going to be?

Are they all going to be several months in between now?  There was certainly a huge gap of time between the Death of the Destroyer and A Peice of Blue Sky.

#10300003427 06/10/2006 17:28:43 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, June 9, 2006
I am very happy to see these new features.
#10300003428 06/10/2006 18:33:46 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, June 9, 2006
This is honestly really sweet.

Will the special missions to get into the white corridors actually
serve any storyline purpose, or is it simply a way to get into the
corridors?

I always thought the white corridors could be a good base for a small
'Oracle' contact missions set. This game needs more Oracle! SMILEY

Still really great. Mission archive well anticipated too. Looking
forward to finally completing some of my storyline documents ready for
release (they'll be well worth the wait, trust me!)

As far as Rarebit has said, there are no plans for large scale events at the moment. That doesn't mean that they wont happen again, it just means they dont currently have plans for one.  The HUGE events usually take tons of dev time and pretty much halts all work on other things besides that event. Plus that event only lasts for acouple days and usually dont get very good reviews.

In essence, it's a waste of money..or atleast it's a huge risk.  They invest all their time in something and try to make it great, but player expectations are usually very high and it leads to disappointment.

This is from Rarebit:

Symmetric wrote:
When Walrus mentioned "Crews and Factions" in the OSOTLG article about
the white hallways, did he mean that they can actually be restricted to
single crews and factions, or are they just org-limited?

They
are accessed through the mission system, and the mission system knows
only orgs and mission teams, not factions or crews, so no, they don't
really have anything to do with factions or crews directly.

The
way it is designed to work currently is that you can buy a certain very
special key from an archivist. The key leads to that archivist's org
area, through the white hallways. The key costs 100,000,000 $info,
requires at least 100 rep in the org for use, and can be used an
indefinite number of times. It can also be traded or sold.

EDIT:
And just to be clear, the areas you go to are mission areas, with all
the normal restrictions (six people to a team, ~30 minute time limit,
etc).

#10300003434 06/11/2006 01:54:54 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, June 9, 2006

Meh....  I like the idea of having it tied to your rep as anything that encourages someone to be more org loyal is a good thing, but that cost is just WAY too high.  The least they can do is make it something with 2 sets of requirements:  For example, maybe something like: Option 1:  100 rep, xp level 50, 20 million info or Option 2:  100 rep, any xp level, 100 million info.

The rest of the infomation that Rarebit posted is moderately disappointing, I suppose, but I certainly hope they reconsider at least this point before they decide to take this live.

More info on the areas from Rarebit:

Seymour| wrote:
What will be the org only area for merovingians? Will get any preview screenshots before it's released?

The Merovingian areas (there are about five or six different floorplans
per org) are called "Merovingian Palace" in the mission design tool.
They're pretty much large sprawling mission areas (fairly standard room
and hall shapes) done up in a posh chateau-esque style. I'll be
surprised if Walrus is able to resist leaking out a screenshot or two
at some point.

No.
The key will lead to a door. Going through the door will transport you
to the white hallways. Entering a certain one of the doors inside the
hallways will transport you to the mission area.

Once in the
mission area, if you turn around and go back out the door into the
hallway, you'll find yourself back in the white hallways, and from
there you can take the exit door back to the city, if you want.

Zion's
are called "Zion Outpost," I think. They're probably the most
Matrix-standard-looking areas, except that they have a bit of a feeling
of having been given a partial makeover by sweater-wearing
cave-dwellers. There's a largish meeting room with long log (or
something like that) benches in one of them, for instance.

The
Machine ones are called... Hm... I forget what the name shown in the
mission design tool is. Hideout? That doesn't sound quite right...
Prison? Maybe that was it. They have cell block areas, and
administration office areas. They're very cold and grey and depressing.
Agent Gray broadcast a picture of himself once that was taken inside
one of the interrogation rooms, although he slyly blurred and dimmed
the background a little.
#10300003440 06/11/2006 16:17:46 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, June 9, 2006
100million is a little steep IMO - I know there are alot of lvl 50s out
there with alot of $i on their hands, but many won't be able to afford
even half of that.

I'm sure there are even many smaller factions that can't easily afford a key for the entire faction to use...

The rep thing is quite good, however.

I dunno about you guys, but I'm a little disappointed in the white hallways now. Limiting it to a mission team means we can't even have a meeting of a full crew, let alone a faction meeting. I guess it could be handy for a faction leader to meet with the faction's captains - but even that isn't practical for some of the larger factions.

I'm still pretty jazzed about archive missions though!:smileyhappy:

Wahey!

New content, not just some new missions but new, honest to betsy, content!

If we start with org specific areas in the white corridors then how long will it be before we get other things added in there?

The beauty of this game is that with these constructs you can have pretty much whatever you want in there and it still works out as canon because the mega city is still there grinding away.

*Sigh*  That's not good news.  Thanks for the information, though.  I guess I should check the Ask a Dev thread more often.  Personally, even though there were less options and a lot more glitches earlier in the game, it seems to me that MxO has never been as good as it was during the first few months when we had events like The Race for Neo and the Hunt for Morpheus going on.  But I guess we're never going to have events that big unless a lot more people subscribe to this game.  Player-sponsored viral marketing campaign, anyone?

Anyway, as far as the updates that we did get, it's looking really good.  This White Hallway stuff sounds like it will really flesh out the game world... make us feel a lot more like we're really in the Matrix.  I wonder if we'll be able to use the other doors like they did in the movie and acess different parts of the Matrix through the White Hallway.  The archived missions and org specific abbilites sound great, as well.  I wonder what kind of abbilities we'll end up with.  I hope you'll only be able to access one org's abbilities at a time though, and also that they'll be some sort of story-related reason for who gets what abbility.  Excellent update overall, if we get a few more updates like this, maybe soon everyone will love the game and the devs will have more time to work on Live Events!
