How does choosing a faction affect the gameplay? Can I do missions for enemy factions?

It's the same as I'm using. It's only the launcher you download, making it download the entire client using the patcher.

Getting the client from the patcher is taking forever.... Never taken this long with any other MMO I've played. Is there an alternative download for the client? A torrent or FTP would be nice.
