#3630041457902/26/2008 04:08:34First Impressions of Datamine
Well, after a few hours in Datamine, I gotta say...
I LOVE IT!
The Collective Death Squad and the Zion Zerg were going at each other and anyone they could find, which really kept me on my toes those few hours. The $info... And I discovered that Master Shadow is my best friend. I've only died once, and that was when I first went in and was being a noob by going by myself with Duelist loaded... >_<
What do you people think?
#3630041458402/26/2008 04:12:46Re:First Impressions of Datamine
I gotta admit, The Collective made Datamine a lot more fun than I thought it could be. Kudos! :D
And then the 200k+ $info taps aren't bad either. ;)
#3630041460802/26/2008 05:10:55Re:First Impressions of Datamine
It's not to bad, I realized the Archivist Proxy takes way to long to send people.
I also now think Master Shadow needs to fixed, like give shield jamming a chance to bring someone out of Shadow.
I don't need info so I don't datamine, for now theres plenty of people to kill,
but what happens when everyone gets bored and now one goes in there anymore?
#3630041461702/26/2008 05:21:41Re:First Impressions of Datamine
I didn't do any mining but I did go exploring! And I had to run and hide from a few people :P It was fun! :)

Im liking it, and I'm up 2-1 on the TC Gank Squad.

I'm guessing the info farming will keep people coming back in.

What happens if the info was nerfed? the info you get from tapping is nice but say it was nerfed, i dont think the free for all would keep eveyone in the datamine. Would be nice to see a boss put in there with some epic lootz or maybe some quest.

Yeah jard hopefully that's something they have in the pipeline, But dont forget this new area has opened up a lot of things for the devs IE story based bosses and other things. Or of course i could be dreaming
#3630041473202/26/2008 08:42:59Re:First Impressions of Datamine
A boss and rotating rare loot would keep Datamine interesting for a long time.
TC Death Squad? I love it.
#3630041474702/26/2008 09:13:18Re:First Impressions of Datamine
They did good roaming around killing at random, I'll definitely give them that Satta, but some of them took things way to seriously.
Protip: If one person laughs at you and keeps running, their probably just trying to get a reaction from you. Sending them tells just lets them know they won

Well, I was not there and cannot speak on that. However I think you would agree that TC has taken alot of hits as of late. There is bound to be blowback. All in all that is nothing compared to what we have to listen too from the haters.
However everyone is having fun and that is how it should be like. Now if the Devs can create something that will keep datamine attractive then they will gain and keep alot more accounts. Alot of old heads are coming back around to check this out.
#3630041476602/26/2008 09:44:24Re:First Impressions of Datamine
Rotating loot would be amazing. Especially if they did it similar to that one arena in WoW where you only have a chance to get it every so often and you have to fight for it (or get there when nobody else is there).

I was keeping my fingers crossed to maybe see a new spawn/item from datamining, like they did with the overdrive dana and gloves but all looks the same so far :/

would be a thousandfold better if the buildings were enter-able, but all in all it's good stuff.

Agreed even if the layouts are the same as the others, Entering building would be very nice but that patch for that will prob be a bit high, Hence this patch was not that big thats prob down to the fact that you cant enter buildings , But whatever im happy as it is for now
Going back to what Satta said, Damm yeah theres a few faces in there i anit seen in 3 years !!!!
Good to see all you guys back , Hope you stay

#3630041477902/26/2008 10:02:34Re:First Impressions of Datamine
Datamine is awesome. I haven't explored the entire area yet nor tapped nodes (though I hear they grant a ridiculous amount of Info per tap), but I did PvP for about an hour and it was a lot of fun when everyone is red. The FFA will freshen up some of the stale PvP we have been seeing at Mara for over 3 years now. Though it's kinda tough to auto target.. usually I just tab through targets, but when most of those targets are your own Faction, it gets kinda tough.
I think what makes Datamine so great and unique is the amount of uneven terrain. Actual hils, bridges, broken streets, buildings, etc. Like Puck said, it would even be sweeter if buildings were accessible, but that's no biggie really seeing as the area itself is huge.
Hopefully Rarebit and the gang expand on this and like others have said perhaps add a unique boss or some sort of quest for some new and rare loot, which will be a lot harder to aquire since it's FFA, so only teams can compete with the boss/quest and other hostiles. Territory battles would also work!!

You and mittens weren't doing the exact same thing? Plus for the record, that night TC were fighting each other for fun, staying near the entrance protected us for opposing org members. But look, this isn't an argument. If you think sending smack talk in tells is lame, just don't do it your self. Thats all.
#3630041478902/26/2008 10:20:17Re:First Impressions of Datamine
Nah, I'm actually messing around. Does everything I say have to be serious and "*CENSORED*" worthy?
I've had a good time with FFA/Datamine so far, and I'm generally happy with it. It was honestly just a teasing comment.
#3630041479002/26/2008 10:21:14Re:First Impressions of Datamine
Well, after spending about two hours in Datamine, getting pwned by lilTwie twice, and a whole zerg of Machinists....it was awesome. Running scared, tapping nodes where I could. It was like trying to survive on a deserted island packed with hostile natives. Leaving with 35 mil extra info for minimal effort helps too. I'll be back with empty money bags, and a load of Health Pill 5s.
#3630041479602/26/2008 10:28:50Re:First Impressions of Datamine
Yeah having accesible buildings would be cool. Imagine you are just chilling in a building looking out the window and you see a dataminer run by. The hunt is on. Alot of place to have ambushes, or territories to hold onto. A boss on the helipad or in the lake or something. Rotating loot that is hard to get. Maybe even a way to tally up kills to death ration in just that construct. I am telling you if just these simple things were done their subscription base would explode and stay that way for a while.
Without these additions I don't know how long datamine will hold everyones attention. People will soon get tired of the TC death squad ganking everybody and will only come in when nobody is there to datamine. They will then go back to Mara doing whatever it is they do over there.

#3630041480002/26/2008 10:38:45Re:First Impressions of Datamine
I think its been overdue...but I like it.
Managed to duck and dive away from various people and managed to do abit of Sight seeing. Nice size. I can see alot of events happening in this area which is nice. The only thing missing is some kind of collection/mission in this area, that would top it up nicely. Overall I'm dead impressed. Nice work guys.
One more thing? Did they have to call it Datamine?

I don't do it, unless I'm kidding around and I know that person knows I'm kidding. Plus what DW used to do was have you on ignore, un-ignore, send hate tells, then put you back on ignore again. Thats a lil different. Not to mention the great lengths he would do into to attack you in a personal manner.

I'm impressed that they put this thing together, being so short on staff and all, but I have to be honest with you, I'm not that thrilled with Datamine.
If you look at it for what it is, it is a new place, to do the same old content. PvP which has been around since....mid beta or so, and the datamining stuff, which has been around for almost half a year. WHile bigger, and better, the construct itself has no distinguishing content, and nothing unique but its look and FFA pvp ruleset. Until some unique content gets added, it'll be nothing more than another construct that will be abandoned in 6 months.

Your probably right, but you have to give them credit for taking what they have to work with and giving us something new to do with it. The reason we don't get genuinely new content is because of our low dev staff. If we had devs devoted to creating new things then those new things could work their way into the game.
To make an analogy of it. Lets say you got a box of legos. You can only build so much with those legos before all you can do is re arrange them in a different way. They only way to build something new is to get some new legos. MxO has run out of legos a long time ago, but Rarebit has been doing a *CENSORED* good job of rearranging them.

It is tough to autotarget, and I'm always like "****, I'm MASSIVELY OUTNUMBERED! Oh wait, it's just some Machinists (which... may or may not get me out of danger)"
And Territory Battles would be 'Hella Leet'.

Though everyone needs to adopt a rule: Shut up and PvP!
I get that some folks are there to datamine and make some quick cash, but that 10x info boost isn't free, y'know... we were getting some pretty heavy hate messages after killing some miners. Some even cursed in Spanish!

Not being a big PVP-er I had to pick my *CENSORED* up out of the dirt once or twice, but it's all in good fun. Datamine if FFA, just because you are there just to tap doesnt mean you have a personal no fire zone, learn to fight, learn to run, or learn to hide. Just shut up and do one of the three.

Hah, we had a lot of the same yesterday. We killed a few people farming away and I find it quite ironic that they complain about being killed in a PvP enabled construct.
#3630041495802/26/2008 14:32:55Re:First Impressions of Datamine
Admittedly, it bugs me when someone notices that you're fighting a data mining spawn and ganks you.
But if you're just tapping a regular node, you can stop, drop, and roll into combat pretty easily.
