This thread is for discussion of  The Halloween Update, which is set to be released on Tuesday, October 30th, 2007.

Why aren't we making up for the time we lost due to the fires?  We went from a 14 day event to a 9 day event...bummer...

Yeah, I'd like an extension, too.

Most stuff pretty standard for Halloween, but I don't mind.

Nice to see a few bug fixes in there, especially location of the gun muzzle blasts.

EDIT: oh and YAY for closing the dang map legend finally

Please extend, or there will be consequences. Namely, moaning and crying on the forums.

Oh wait, Raijinn doesn't care about the game. Not really a threat tohim.

What they said.

On an unrelated note, woot for muzzel flash and Amber fixes (I reported the latter).

#36300345034 10/29/2007 19:00:48 Re:Halloween Update Discussion
Not so much an extension as a rollover, and it would be duly appreciated, as compensation for the delay.

#36300345060 10/29/2007 19:16:47 Re:Halloween Update Discussion
i agree with the rest of the people here.   I feel bad for what is going on out west, but i dont think it is too much to ask for the halloween event to run an even two weeks.
#36300345061 10/29/2007 19:16:51 Re:Halloween Update Discussion

OK the delay is understood, I'm sure most of the community realizes that it was no cause of SOE that the delay took place. However, I'm still curious about why it is taking so long to get the update going. I mean from my understanding of the technology all that should really be required is for a technician to log onto the server and flip a few switches thereby activating the halloween content at next server restart. Since the server IPs resolve in Washington DC, why couldn't this be done from any remote location that has access to the internet? Of course my understanding my not be entirely accurate, or like many things in MXO, the update is much more involved than it should be, or would be for any other game.

Considering what little work it should actually take to activate/deactivate this content what is the reasoning for cutting things short?  Other than the obvious speculation that SOE doesn't care about it's subscribers, I would like an actual explanation. So please Raijinn enlighten me/us, if you explain the situation we might just be more willing to accept it, but simply insisting this is how it's going to be will only leave people bitter.

#36300345062 10/29/2007 19:17:19 Re:Halloween Update Discussion
It's good to see some of Rarebit's improvements floating in already :)
Also, I have to agree with the above - please extend the event to it's originally intended length.
Unless there's a particular reason why this should not happen?

well if your not gonna extend Halloween Raijinn can we at least have update 56 on Nov 9th? which is a day right after this Halloween event
#36300345088 10/29/2007 20:15:47 Re:Halloween Update Discussion

The bluepill Amber asks you to escort in her second mission, "A Safe Place," will no longer be attacked by Amber's own ASP street gang.

*CENSORED* THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh right Halloween thing....yay?

#36300345106 10/29/2007 20:52:19 Re:Halloween Update Discussion
We still don't know where to find the new masks.  Will they be in the Zombie's loot or in the mysterious box or both?
#36300345110 10/29/2007 21:01:22 Re:Halloween Update Discussion
As others have already said, please extend the Halloween event.  Delaying the event was understandable due to the circumstances, but the entire MxO population shouldn't be subject to the consequences if it can easily be rectified by simply not removing the Halloween content for an extra week or two.  Nine days seems almost laughable.
#36300345142 10/29/2007 22:50:56 Re:Halloween Update Discussion

I'm happy it's out in time for Halloween.

It seems somewhat reasonable that we'd stay on the normal Thursday patch schedule.  The event would have been 14 days thurs-thurs but we had a late switch on a tues instead making it removed on not the next but following thursday.  Probably always concerns switching things if there needs to be a fix, scheduled days to have some dude stay late and restart the box if it bombs out, etc.  Switching the holiday changes off is probably it's own patch.  Pushing the update patch out on top of it with zero test time might be a bit much.  Perhaps the two patches could be combined, I'm not really qualified to speculate on that.

Interesting on the gangs no longer attacking people their leader asks you to escort.  Never thought about that as a bug, just figured it was due to poor communication in the ranks.  Or possibly that the leader didn't bother to tell them or trust them with it, if they did, why hire you or something along those lines.  Anyway, I think it's a good change.

Edited for a few missing letters, too tired, etc.

2007 Halloween Masquerade: Oct. 30 through Nov. 8
It's time for The Matrix Online 2007 Halloween Masquerade! Find the jack-o-lanterns around the Mega City and activate them to spawn Exiles. Defeating a wave of Exiles leaves you with a special treat: A box only you can open that contains one of seven possible Halloween masks.

Suggesting they they come from the box rather than as loot.

Also, as I've said before there would be a lot more to it then simply flipping a switch, the patches need to be applied then tested and checked to make sure nothing has been compromised. Yeah they've done it before so they'd have a fairly good understanding of what to do so it should be quicker than previous times, but the new additions required checking for any flaws etc...

It isn't specific about which seven masks it is but it is most likely the 2005 halloween masks. These patch notes are very vague, they don't even say about the masks you get from the zombies (which should be the 2006 masks) which leaves the question where do you get the 2007 masks?

Also nice to hear about Amber's gang not attacking her escortee (could the same fix be made to others). I was stuck on that mission for ages because of it. I'm guessing you've just unflagged her for combat so no-one can attack her.

So far I've been getting 2006 and 2007 masks from the zombies.

Indeed, I have found that also.
#36300345336 10/30/2007 08:57:55 Re:Halloween Update Discussion
hey is it just me or is the jack-o-lanterns not working? I went to 2 different places and activated them all that happened was they made a noice and that was it.

I tried all the ones you have mentioned on Live Dr. The all worked on the first try for me.

Remeber if you have a sequence currently running on you a second one wont spawn. So for example the Agent spawns or the Neighborhood zomebie spawns will prevent the pumpkin ones from appearing even though you activated it.

I am not saying this was your case but just an FYI.

#36300345364 10/30/2007 09:45:52 Re:Halloween Update Discussion

9mmfu has said on the Broadcast Depth thread:

"No, If we did then every patch following it would be slightly off also. better to make just one a bit shorter and keep the regular Updates on schedule."

So it doesn't look likely.

#36300345379 10/30/2007 10:10:29 Re:Halloween Update Discussion
He said that implying that the update 56 patch would be delayed. As he hasn't given a reason as to why it might be delayed, I reckon he may be wrong. SMILEY As far as I can see, they should be able to perform update 56 on time.
#36300345514 10/30/2007 14:07:21 Re:Halloween Update Discussion
An extension looks unlikely at this point due to a few things. The zombies and Halloween masks are coded to shut off automatically on the 8th so pushing it further back would require a new update which is most likely not something that the team can do.

That's what I have on this for the time being, should any additional news come up, we'll let you know.

But the fact it probably WONT be extended still angers me. Oh well. I guess I'll wait for Christmas fo-- no I can't have darkness and zombies then. Just snow. Oh well, I'll wait TILL NEXT YEAR.
#36300345751 10/30/2007 19:37:05 Re:Halloween Update Discussion
Rarebit:
It looks like the server file for the updated pumpkin loot did not make it into the stuff that went out for this update's server patch. This is being looked into now.

Sooo yah those masks are missing from the Live pumpkins right now. Tomorrow Walrus gets to figure out how we fix this. =p
---

If we have to update to fix this, you could extend the event right?
#36300346352 10/31/2007 22:21:25 Re:Halloween Update Discussion
after the 8.3.5 mission the rest of the story line is really just filler events and set ups for the next big thing. Rare could let some of his creative juices flow and make the rest of this halloween patch all halloween content for Live events. i for one hope he does this because then he can concentrate on making some events that we had in the past like the Scourge of camon event a one day per server event instead of hitting all three servers in one day. ( kinda bringing it back to the old days of first found, most dmg and last hit so more people can get prizes and such).
