(( What Cesspool said. I agree that controlling the sim on a regular basis would be next to impossible with the General' infrastructure crumbling around him, but I think the unravelling of the transmission's dubious authenticity (the signal not coming from the Real, the sim being tracked down and followed, etc.) coincided with the General losing all his assets. He lost control, and everything fell apart.

In other words: the General sucks. SMILEY ))

The sim was an obvious plant but its behaviour at the end was unexpected.

(why MxO continues to background and misuse one of the pivotal characters that defines the Matrix is beyond me entirely, Morpheus' presence is needed to lead the plot, to engender the connection to movies, to give us non zion someone we need to eliminate, to welcome players into the matrix, its the best sellling tool the story has and the most perfect and logical focal point around which it can creatively expand - about the last thing we need is some 'Morpheus but not Morpheus' sim wandering about!)

Agreed.

If Morpheus just so happens to be actually possibly still alive then bring him back and be done with all this dragging on crap SMILEY It's getting like a tv show with dipping ratings SMILEY

The Sim, a sim like this, does not rely on remote control so much as to be dependend on a static system. This sim is much more like a own organism, an exile if you will. Though, programmed as a soldier (commando programming as a basis I guess), the mission it was given was to copy an individual with strong characteristics in human interaction, leadership, etc.
To fulfill the mission it was given, there was no other choice than to get as close to the copy as possible. If the sim hadn't it would have been recognized long ago.
But by ignoring security (a certain distance to ensure safety for the original programming) the sim inevitably was tainted by the mission and became the mission... Morpheus. Although still independend, the sim now was more obliged to fulfill the role than the commands it was given.
A true Exile was born. Although the appearance is misleading and the truth that, like us, the simulacrum knows that it isn't Morpheus, it will be hard for it to stay an Exile.

The unbearing parallels between Morpheus and the Simulacrum will force the Machines to remove it, while the Merovingian will, although the past with Morpheus isn't a good one, try to get a new "pet". The EPN of course will also try to take the Simulacrum, for various reasons. Zion, I don't know what the High Counsil will order in this case. And the CYPHS? Veil will probably try to kill him, while Cryptos will try to get a chance to talk to him, for the old times, even though it's not Morpheus.

Of course, that's just my point of view.

((What Im hoping for will happen: A)Morpheus eventually comes back and has a battle with the Morpheus Sim to determine who is the real deal.

B) Morpheus Sim gets implanted into Cryptos, bad stuff happens.

C) Morpheus Sim because the next Smith Virus.

C part 2) Next anniversery event Smith fights the Morpheus Virus to determine who the better virus is! (go Smith! Woo!)

D) The Morpheus Sim and the Kid get married.

"Usually a program chooses exile when it faces deletion...a program can either choose to hide in the Matrix, or return to the Source." ~Oracle

A simulacra in a simulated world developing the ability to choose. Interesting  SMILEY.  I guess the big question now is Does a Sim of Morpheus go as far as the Real Morpheus now that its found it's purpose? Coding at its best or coding at its worst? Time will tell.
