Vista Issues with The Matrix Online.

Hello all, it would seem various folks are having issues with screen shots taken in MxO while running Vista. At this time we are not sure if the problem is with MxO or with Vista. So in an effort to help us track down the issue I would like to request that anyone having this issue, or others, please post your dxdiag and if the issue is graphics one a screen shot example of the issue.

We would like to narrow down and hopefully find a fixes for these issues and the communities help in this would be invaluable.

Please realize that if your post doesn't deal with the topic or further the investigation relating to the topic it may be removed as we envision this thread may get many posts and we would like to keep it organized.

To summarize, these are the four issues we currently consider Vista-specific:


1) Fixed lighting on character child models
 
Character child models (hands and faces) are lit differently than the rest of the body. When standing still, they are lit brightly from North and South, and in shadow on the sides facing East and West. This lighting does not update if the character animates while standing in place; for instance, your face is in shadow when facing East (even if the sun is shining directly on it), and if you do the /lookaround emote to make your head turn left and right, the dark shadow stays fixed on the front of your face even when your head turns to look North and South as the emote animation plays.
 
Richworld pedestrians, whose faces are built into the main body, rather than attached as children, do not have the face lighting problem.
 
 
2) Texture corruption with character shadows enabled
 
When Character Shadows are enabled in the advanced graphics window, texture corruption may occur on parts of characters, or on the entire world when standing in certain spots and facing certain directions. By "corruption," I mean that the textures are rendered either as a single flat color, or as a dithered pattern.
 
 
3) Black screenshots with anti-aliasing enabled
 
Screenshots, either jpg or bmp, come out entirely black with Anti-aliasing enabled in the advanced graphics options panel. This only occurs when running full-screen (AA doesn't work when running in a window) at a resolution other than the desktop resolution; if you run at the desktop resolution, full-screen, with AA, screenshots work normally.
 
 
4) Female with nose ring has metallic shiny chest
 
A female with the facial style that includes a nose-ring model gets a shiny specular highlight on her upper torso. It appears that at least with the female, the nose ring's specular image map, which should be rendering only on the ring part of the face child model, is rendering on the character's chest.

For the Screen Shot issues please include the following information for your posts.

• Does it occur to .bmp, .jpeg, or both file types?
• Does it occur if the screen shot is taken while in windowed mode?
• Does it occur if use you use the Print Screen functionality from your keyboard instead of the MxO hot keys?

Ah ha! Finally. Thank you, 9mm. Though there is more problems than just the screenshot one, I also feel that screenshots are a priority.

The problem happens repeatedly while using fullscreen mode (For me, this means using 1280x1024 on a 19" SAMSUNG monitor, but I have also tried it at 1024x768 for testing). It produces a totally black JPEG at whatever resolution when using F12. F12+SHIFT renders the same thing as a BMP. A printscreen capture in-game is also totally black when pasted into MS Paint or Photoshop later. So far the only method for taking screenshots in-game is FRAPS, but that's besides the point.

Windowed mode is stranger. At higher resolutions (Beyond 1024x768), a screenshot will be all black. But when in Windowed mode and using 1024x768 or lower it produces a screenshot normally (Minus anti-aliasing, due to the nature of Windowed mode, unfortunately).

I will post my updated DXDIAG shortly.

How about 1024x768 and 800x600, full screen, no AA?

How about 1024x768 and 800x600, full screen, no AA?

Oh wow. I think we found the problem, Rarebit. I just tried taking screenshots without AA turned on on all resolutions... All of the screenshots worked.

That's why ShadowSK hasn't reported problems! He doesn't use AA.

Yeah, I'm totally obsessed with the smoothness. But, now you can see from Dezreki's screenshot what I'm talking about with the crazy shadows on the face of an RSI.

And I actually run with regular AA levels (Whatever the game decides is regular, I guess) when I have AA on. And this never happened with XP. So maybe there's something going on with that because I know that Vista's user interface is using its own AA (So that everything is smooth, which I love). Hmm...

As long as I can use FRAPS, though, I wish there was some way to fix that face-shadow/shadow-face problem as well as the various glitches with NPC textures (Civilians, Agents, the Oracle, etc).

I'm having a slight graphical issue, not sure if its vista related...check out the oracle and let me know what you think...

I was able to get rid of the texture glitches if I turned the charecter shadows and building shadows off, not sure if that helps any.

 Perhaps the screen-shot problem isn't since Fraps seems to work like a charm.

I was messing around with the graphics settings in-game and I seemed to actually fix the problem. But sadly I'm unable to take screenshots as a result, oddly enough. I bet there's a simple set of graphics settings to make everything work..just experiment and it should right itself.

Well there's no point in me posting a pic then since I did turn off AA, this solved a huge prob and yeah, the shadows also contributed towards the issue.

Same issues here. I don't use AA and never have. The graphics issues in-game happen whether or not I'm Windowed or Full Screen. The Screenshots issue does not exist if in Full Screen mode. I have the typical shading issues all the time since I installed Vista and occasional texture glitches. One glitch I have that nobody else has mentioned is the targeting reticle on the ground. Sometimes I get a red and green box/diamond instead of the usual graphic. I tried taking screenshots while I thought about this issue so hopefully you can recognize it.

On another note. Nvidia did release new Vista drivers on 2/20/7.

I unfortunately can't install them because thats the way Dell likes to play. So I have to wait until Dell releases their modified version. That's one problem

The other problem I have is that I have  Geforce 6800 Go card (256mb), and if I read the release notes correctly The only Nvidia graphics card that uses this driver set AND supports DirectX 10 is the 8800.

I seem to be having the same problems as everyone else with Vista - the weird face shadows, the screen disappearing and reappearing, etc. I've been fiddling with various settings and, except for the face shading problem, I think I've found the major problem.

In game, if I did a hyperjump, opened my inventory or looked at the status with the little animated RSI, then my graphics would corrupt. It would vary from textures becoming solid color, to the whole screen being one color and the icons being all seperate blocks of color. I'd post a screenshot, but I can't get them to do anything but black screens. I'll keep playing with that and see if I can get some screens another way.

Anyway, I found out the culprit. It wasn't overbright, it wasn't shadow settings, it was my actual RSI causing the problem. I have two pieces of clothing on my character which have a shiny effect to them. If I wear both of them I get the above problems, if I wear only one of them then I have no problems at all. None except for the face shadow, of course - no idea what that is. With only one piece of 'shiny' clothing, I can hyperleap, look at my inventory, open status, fight, jump up and down and dance the can-can, all on maximum settings (literally - maximum. I have everything turned right up to full, including anti-aliasing). Two pieces of 'shiny' clothing and it all goes poop.

I hope that helps out a few people having similar problems, and/or helps the devs find the root of the problem. Though it could be a driver problem still!

For reference: Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, 2Gb DDR2 RAM, Geforce 8800 GTX, Vista Home Premium 32-bit, etc, etc.. Using the Nvidia beta drivers (101.??).

I have no probems with screen shots at ANY setting. I do NOT get shadows on my or any other face, unless they are suppose to be there.The only problem I get is some of the NPCs had those glitches that others have prevoisly posted. And once I disabled my second monitor, those went away. Will post information soon. Hope it helps. I hope the answer isnt for everyone to drop at least 300 bux on a new video card, but face it you'll want one in a year for any other games coming out.

I finally convinced my friend to try MxO.  My understanding is he should have no problems with the basic functionality of the game.  I am still unclear after reading this thread as to what for him to expect in regards to the screenshot issue and the wierd texture issues.  Might I kindly request those who have overcome these problems to state basically what resolutions and settings work and which do not.

 Can anyone help me?
