Well I'm finally running on my new vista Alienware lappy so I can work on this now.
My screen shots only work (both formats .JPG and .BMP work the same) when windows is running in desktop resolution.
That is they only work when running windowed or when running at the same resolution as the windows desktop.
As for the crazy face shading, the angle used for the face's shadow is affected by the camera angle (rotate the camera, keeping the RSI still and the face shading changes but the shading on everything else stays the same), like the shading rotation offset is the "world rotaton" instead of the "object rotation".
Nothing gets rid of the face shading issue but texture scaling problems stop happening at lower resolutions or I can go a little higher if I turn off over-bright and AA. It definately seems to be hitting some sort of resource limit.
The textures losing their scaling seems to only happen at certain angles in a similar way to the way snowflakes get all stretched near buildings. But I think the snowflake thing is caused by the textures being given the dimentions of rain textures (long and thin) when drawing weather particles from a non-affected area (under cover) or on the border of an under-cover area. The texture scaling problem seems to be caused by z-buffer overrun. Every single screen shot with a texture issue, is caused by the texture at a certain rotation offset loses it's scaling on the poly-area. That screams some sort of overflowlimit problem with a variable or range. Something happens and the texture-dimention-scalar becomes 1 or lower. Yay algebraic-geometry!
But I digress...
I'll post all my setings and results in about 10 hours.
Oh the things I could do if I actually had a copy of the engine source-code. Ah well. Cést la vie.

Here's the link to my DXDIAG:

I too am experiencing these weird texture/shadowing problems. I have an Nvidia GeForce Go 6950 GTX (a laptop). I'm running Windows vista home premium. I'm guessing it's driver compatibility, so I'll just wait it out.
However, is anyone having trouble viewing cinematics that's running Windows Media 11? There's no video, though there is sound. I'm guessing that this could also be a video compatibility problem, but someone told me it has to do with MxO and the new Windows Media version.
Just curious if anyone else is having these problems.
Kilo

is there anything that can be done by now?

You guys are using this link to send reports to Nvidia as well, right?I think that the reason for people (including me) having glitches is due to the BETA drivers from Nvidia. So it should really be sent to Nvidia.
Use this link http://www.nvidia.com/object/vistaq...yassurance.html The more people sending these troubles in, the faster they'll probably be resolved.
Perhaps the screen-shot problem isn't since Fraps seems to work like a charm.

The face shadow issue seems to be a side-effect of DirectX 10 not handling a DirectX 9 procedure properly.
Which means it needs to be corrected by an MxO patch.
There may need to be some rendering routines re-written to check for DirectX 10 and run differently if it is being used.

The problem is definitely Vista based, I am dual booting vista and Xp, same hardware, same revision of the drivers.... everything is fine on Xp but Vista casts a curious half shadow accross the front of the face.

1) Fixed lighting on character child models
Character child models (hands and faces) are lit differently than the rest of the body. When standing still, they are lit brightly from North and South, and in shadow on the sides facing East and West. This lighting does not update if the character animates while standing in place; for instance, your face is in shadow when facing East (even if the sun is shining directly on it), and if you do the /lookaround emote to make your head turn left and right, the dark shadow stays fixed on the front of your face even when your head turns to look North and South as the emote animation plays.
Richworld pedestrians, whose faces are built into the main body, rather than attached as children, do not have the face lighting problem.

Logged into MxO last night automatically and forgot to boot into xp first..... the shadow problem was no where in sight and to all intents and purposes MxO was running quite happily in vista..........
Edit...OH errrr please disregard my comments above, today the problems of shadow and texture are there in droves..... trying to comprehend the reasons - though my own abject stupidity may be the most obvious cause =/ apologies for the misinfo!
In addition to the aformentioned problems, I'm also having slight audio errors on a Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeMusic. This includes no, or unsynched jumping sound animations, sometimes no gunfire sounds, and no launcher sounds. It seems to have improved with the latest patch, but is still there.
I know there has been a change in audio standards for Windows Vista, but it should still be noticed. So far it is the only application I have had troubles with.

Okay - here are my issues. With pics:
I have a 8600 GTX G-Force card. Just a tad under the 8800, but still a powerful card. My drivers are up to date with the most current avalible driver.
*The shiny textures are all messed up - on most clothing. Some articles of clothing completely break the textures all around. But when taken off - they go back to normal.
Turing on/off the AA does nothing to fix any of this. Same with changing texture settings.
*Turning off AA, the inventory doll is either not shown at all or all fragmented. If I turn on AA, it works perfectly fine. Still with reflection texture issues.
*The faces of NPCs and Players have the shading issues.
*Vista does not have the lag problem indoors but my XP drive does.
*Textures on doors and objects continuously become corrupted. I am working to gain screenshots of this happening - but as it is difficult to get a screenshot in Vista because the shot is all black!!
*The sound in Vista on the opening login screen is completely messed up. It runs on too long and has an incredible delay with typing. This does not happen on my XP drive.
My other games work absolutely FINE. Warcraft works beautifuly, as with other games which push the video card harder than this game does.
I pay $42.00 for a 3 month subscription and these issues should not be happening!! I would expect this of a freeplay, open source game - but even Runescape runs better than this! And it is not ppl's video cards or Vista or Nvidia's problems - I am thoughrly convinced of that. It is the Game istelf, not ppl's systems. Stop playing the blame game developers and just fix it PLZ!!
XP Drive Clothing compare Vista Clothing texture reflection problems
Vista inventory "doll" figure problem
More shots coming soon as I am able to get them.
If you checked out my Vista Post *Points down to the non-stickied one* you can see that I've identified many of these issues as relating to female clothing/textures:Okay - here are my issues. With pics:

I found 1 of the issues and the cause. I am able to recreate the bug regularly. As shown in the gif I made.
"Sidestrap" vs "Short" shoes and boots do this without fail. I posted about this in the clothing and items thread. I think that many of the reflection texture bugs are coming from when Rarebit updated shineyness and related colors on the clothing. That may be the source of the some of the reflections and such tweeking the video graphics hard.
Resolution: 1440x 900 "wide"
All Shadows turned off.
This appears to happen no matter what when AA is turned on or off.
Everything on my DxDial check log file is fine, working the way it should, and the same as others using similar cards.
Interesting find, none-the-less; have you been able to find out whether or not the textures have anything to do with colors? From what I have seen, certain color blending is causing major color issues in the game.:I found 1 of the issues and the cause. I am able to recreate the bug regularly. As shown in the gif I made.

I don't know about the other dithering problems. So far that seems to have been resolved lately and hasn't happened recently.
The "Green Dragon Li Tunic" dress item greatly corrupts the graphics. As I show in these shots. I bought a similar dress ealier and it caused the problem on the surrounding enviroment textures. It seems to be affecting the environment even when on this NPC. it seems to happen most often with this item of clothing. And she appears to have the tall boots too.
The other 2 NPCs where male and their clothing seemed to be fine. It seems to be worst with this particular dress item.
Hm. Playing as a male character I have not encountered any of these issues because of my character's clothing thus far; however, I can say, like as the example with the NPC noted, that, I have seen it like this. It is, what I believe, to be a texture glitch in the female's clothing. The way it's designed, the shadows it gives off, something. Seeing as you said you turned character shadows off and you still got it leads me to believe that it is a texture issue rather than a shadow issue. Now, at this point, my only thought to get it done would be on SOE or Nvidia's end. Our best bet, I believe, would be to try as many clothes as possible, identify the bugged ones, and compile a list, and hopefully our friends here at SOE can see what they can do.I don't know about the other dithering problems. Cool, your added -
I'm on the west coast, Pacific time. Im home most of the day - pending i get my job or not. And weekends im home and online too - as long as there aren't other matters to attend to. I guess I can be an unofficial bug finder. I really would like to see this game to live up to its potential some day. Minus the issues it is fun and could revive the Matrix mythos if it has a bit more push for perfecting it behind it. I briefly studied 3D animation and games in art school. I know in concept how things should work, but I can't write code.

Well, what I'm gonna try to do is get a couple of players on an Instant Messenger such as AIM or Yahoo and setup a chatroom sometime soon so we the more experienced Vista players can attempt to locate and pinpoint the issues exactly.Cool, your added -

Just want to add that i'm having the texture issues as well. I just installed the game today, i'm a newbie. I'm playing the game on Vista Premium, 7600 GT card with latest Nvdia Driver 162.22, in 1680x1050.Give this thread a try: http://forums.station.sony.com/mxo/..._id=36300015731
Here's a short list of some of the clothing I've seen and had been having trouble with. Just by NPCs and players having them on in the area triggers the corruption. I have tried different versions of Nvidia drivers and nothing fixes it. Oddly enough this does not happen on my XP drive - as Rarebit has apparently reported. But just because Rarebit is developing in XP and doesn't encounter these issues doesn't mean that the problems are not there. He needs and YOU guys need to be developing in VISTA to recognize new problems and conflicts that this broken game is having with the newest software. You should be developing with Nvidia cards - DirectX 10, on the newest platforms and most current versions of Jupiter (Lith dev engine) available. I am sorry evil SOE has you short handed and doesn't give you guys shyte to work with. But really - start demanding from your bosses that these are the things and tools you need to keep this dying game running. It's that or you will loose more and more players due to the Lag issue and other problems that happen ONLY in this game. My other games run smoothly and fine with leads to pointing the finger at MxO itself and it's poorly coded engine.
I have stopped auto-payments on my Sony account, effectively quitting my account. I might still play MxO on a gamecard pay basis. I do like to play with my friends and stuff - but these technical problems are intolerable. You can demand stuff from your bosses you know - to get new tools and machines to work with. It just takes some negotiation and examples with numbers of subscribers to get their attention. There are no emotions in business - and personal preferences with what computers you all LIKE to work on is completely irrelevant. (I have to work on a Macintosh OS10 at my work / and my home computer is a microsoft run PC - i like PCs better, but I have to adapt to working on a Mac to do my job) It's business - tell your rep guy Raijin to start negotiating with your bosses to get shyte done. As this affects all of Sony's *CENSORED* poor online games and their bottom line. Tell them the cannot compete with Blizzard on any level because they are so sucky and poor at giving you guys what you need. And I am sure there are plenty of up and coming game dev gurus at Digipen who could probably help you for not a whole lot of money. Perhaps going out on a freelance hire basis would be preferable to your budgets and help you guys move along.
Anyway - here's a list of the clothing I have spotted trouble with:
Millerie (spl?) Dresses: Any color, the vendor at Sia Kung who sells them is affected. Just having them in the buy list seems to trigger the corruption.
Dire Lupine NPC outfits
Li style fighting Tunic dresses
Sidestrap, long boots
Mostly seems to be female stuff - as you have suspected. Most of the male clothing does not cause any problems. Although I don't know why that would really be or matter. And Rarebit put too much shine on everything and whatever he was messing with when he said he found "hidden reflects and shines" are not helping the game any. And they are causing more problems than fixing them. Unless he seriously wants to fix it quickly and make them work right - I suggest turning it off and putting it on the side and dealing with more immediate and important Dev issues.
As for the serious lag issue - I have the Lag problem on my XP drive but NOT my Vista. Both use the same card and have the latest drivers. I am still convinced it is not entirely Nvidia's problem - as my other online games do not have this issue at all. You need to get a PC with a 8000 series card - preferably a newest 8800, and see what is happening first hand on XP and Vista both. On Directx10 - not 9. By being able to recreate and experience these problems we the players are having. You will be able to find the problems with your tools and fix them in a much more efficient manner. That is what engineering and development is all about.
Sorry I missed you on the chat that time. Maybe I could meet you in game sometime. I work FT during the week. But I'm on Pacific time - as I live nearby Seattle. You can PM me or drop a note in my yahoo chat for a time and date to meet - if you want. Oh - and I'd love to have it out with Rarebit too - a duel perhaps - to resolve our ... differences that we have had. Anyway - I am probably wasting my breath on all this. But there you go. Unless these major issues are being worked on and fixed in an efficient manner this game will continue to loose players. Sorry I am so hard about it - but really, I am a big fan of Matrix and I DO like to play the game. It just needs some fixing to make it better. And if its fixed - then players will come.

I wanna cry... why isn't MxO supporting Vista? Would we need a whole new dev team to accommodate the OS change?
Heh - maybe try convincing SOE of that. I am sure the dev team is working hard on it. They only have a few guys left. I am sure they would appreciate the help.
If any tech savy fans out there are willing to lend a hand in Vista fixing - I'd say PM these guys w/ your info and/or suggestions. Maybe this is the only way we'll finaly get some fixes. I only hope that in the next update there will be more technical fixes patched onto it. Rather than just some dumb typo fixes and additional texture modded clothing items. I would much rather wait longer for some tech fixes than getting new items. New items are a plus - but what good are they if they don't work right or make Vista and my video card tweek out?
