I'd much rather the old masks were offered as vendor loot (ie for sale to players) then being loot drops again. A lot of us do still have them, and others lost them due to no fault of their own. Making the latter have to hunt for the masks again isn't a very nice thing to do. For the former if you're offering up new masks as well (and to be honest, you should be) then making those players have to go through all the old ones again is fairly off-putting). Good to hear it'll be two weeks long though =D

But the old masks are tradable now. It shouldn't be *too* hard to accumulate them all.

It's a quote from the movie Evil Dead. The hero says something along the lines of "And here's my boomstick!" and kills some zombies.

Ash: "Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up. You see this? This is my BOOMSTICK!!..."
#36300066082 10/06/2006 19:06:50 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
Yeah.......a boomstick is a shotgun used to pop the heads off of Zombies. Sweet. Braaaiiiins.........
#36300066083 10/06/2006 19:08:49 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
I feel really stupid. The first time I read it, I thought he said broomsticks. Needless to say, I was very confused.

I thought it was broomstick too SMILEY I don't think I have ever heard of that or that movie before :O Witches halloweens broomsticks.. it made sense in my head! SMILEY

I am already happy just knowing that everything will be back from last year because I never wanted last year to end SMILEY Now that there will be even more I am too excited =)

#36300066109 10/06/2006 19:38:52 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
Side note: the boomstick line and some other evil dead quotes have appeared in the Duke Nukem series, as well as True Crime: Streets of LA
#36300066125 10/06/2006 19:49:58 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
And Starcraft, and Warcraft... >_> I know not of which you ask.

But about the whole "oh, the communitity's just being passionate, it's a sign the game's going well" hooey. I'd honestly rather have threads get locked when they show signs of going out of control, rather than just try to wait out the storm, cuz that only makes things worse. We all know what I'm talking about... *points at the ashes of oblivion-knight in the corner* XD

Also, I hereby nominate Jury for Admin powers '06!!

This....is.....my....BROOMSTICK! *swish*

Either way, I'm very glad to see we can obtain the masks again.

#36300066176 10/06/2006 20:58:04 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
Neo masks? lol

We are getting some new additions, but they don't want to give it away too soon!
#36300066213 10/06/2006 22:21:34 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
It's not tense around here W.  If someone is a moron, we redpills should be able to tell him..."Hey, you're a moron."  Of course, if someone calls me a moron after this, I'm telling.   It's not my fault they don't understand the concept of supergrowth and  PLCs etc. I'm curious though; assuming current per average player costs how many people (on average)  would a group of say 10 have to bring in to take MxO up a notch in the budget department.  And, what effect would paying for an advertisement spot bring to the game i.e. where would that money go?

Don't worry, I'll leave them alone.  You know I won't kill them W, just want to see how much they would cry.
#36300066237 10/06/2006 23:23:36 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
But the old masks are tradable now. It shouldn't be *too* hard to accumulate them all.

Which makes people having to go NPC spawn killing for old content even more of a let down. Whatever happened to trying to give us actual new content? Yes there are some new (as in not seen in game before)  things in this event (apparently), but that still doesn't mean we have to have the old stuff recycled as is. Sure, use the spawns but drop NEW masks. The old masks are just that, old, so shouldn't be offered as "main" content for this event, it should be something people can get as an additional extra (through vendors), while everyone can then go and get new masks via the old method.

From the hints dropped so far, by Walrus and Rarebit, the majority of this event's content is old content - items that were developed during Beta/early live and so forth now being put in to use. But is there going to be actual new content (stuff developed specifically for this event)? I wonder if we even have an art department working on this game at times, from the current appearance of things, it doesn't look like it. So can we really expect to see anything NEW in this event? Really?

As for "Boomsticks" that's from Evil Dead 3 - The Army of Darkness.

Zombie killing... will be fun SMILEY

Nice OSOTLG wally!

Had updates on lingering concerns and thoughts (fan art and ads)

Had a nice 'keep it friendly folks' bit.

Had solid-ish info on upcoming developments.

All good.

Only things i found slightly dissapointing (though theres also next week) is the lack of info on the new object type and the no word on that quick start guide. What happened to it? It is still on the ladder?

Also, TONE DOWN THE DoT ANIMATION! AND MAKE USE OF THE WORLD EVENTS BUTTON AND ICON! (see appropriate general discussion threads)

hehe.

Oh and yeah, new masks are a must.
#36300066318 10/07/2006 03:25:55 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006

Anyone else listen to the podcast?

When talking about MxO and the haloween event, they said "sources close to the project are saying that it will contain zombies" - paraphrased.

Yup blade, was definately nice to hear about MxO in the podcast.

Now... more! We so need our own segment. lol. And Walrus! More Walrus!

#36300066375 10/07/2006 05:37:55 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
Those jack o' lanterns were a great way of delivering NPC's. They should be used, in different forms, elsewhere.
#36300066385 10/07/2006 06:08:32 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
I'm also going to point out this:

Also, and I can hear the groans already, blood and/or gore in the work will prevent it from being posted as well. I know, I know--there was plenty in the movies, but this is a T-rated game, so it won't fly.

Archived image unavailable: blood.html

So what is that? Ketchup? So a T-rated game is allowed to at least allude to blood in it's very own cinematic content, but players cannot allude to blood in their art if they want it considered for hosting? Hmmz0rz.
#36300066394 10/07/2006 06:33:37 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
I think the dude on the floor with no limbs is a better example, but your point still stands, lol.
#36300066401 10/07/2006 06:52:42 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
Ah but that shot with him on the floor didn't show anything that clearly is supposed to be "blood." Whereas that screen shot is a classic comic book style image that shows the use of blood.

#36300066848 10/07/2006 21:30:41 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
I have to say that while the attraction of new content is undeniable, if everyone enjoyed last halloween as much as I've been hearing, I don't have a problem with old content being used again.  Seriously, why mess with a winner?

I hear people complain about how old masks are going to be easily available and how this might devalue the ones people have kept, or make spawn-dropped masks a waste.  It seems to me that if masks from past years are going to be available in following years then anyone will be able to collect all the masks in any halloween/year they like.  Everyone gets to have all the fun, and isn't that the idea of an event like this?  Of course, it might be nice if they made a 'hatbox' or something to keep all these in to save inventory space.

That said, bring on halloween! I'm sure going to have a lot of fun, I hope you do too.
#36300069226 10/10/2006 17:42:59 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, October 6, 2006
Hm, if we get zombies, can we get the shotguns upgraded a bit? They seem rather useless....lower stats than assault rifles overall.
  Just a thought.

As a person who recycled his masks due to lack of inventory room with next to no money, I object to masks being sold for anything more than 10 info. I really don't mind fighting for them.

Bring on the zombie hordes! *pumps shot-gun* chuk-chuk!

THAT would keep me ingame for another 6 months.

I've well always wanted double sawn off shotgun pistols in MxO.
