I have been testing out the damage over time attacks in the Hacker tree along with the Vector ability which reduces Viral Defense by -35 pts and also the Insidious Code ability which reduces Viral Resistance by -100 pts.  Now I can't remember how it goes but I think it goes something like defense determines how easy you are hit by something and resistance is how much damage you shrug off.   Either way I tested this alot with both abilities
I went down to Creston and tested lvl 46 1-chevron NPC's with Code Infection 4.0 and got a standard roll established on the ability for the damage over time.  I then hit the same lvl and chevron NPC with the Vector ability (-35 pts Viral Defense) and then Code Infection 4.0 the damage over time did not change.  I theh hit the same lvl and chevron NPC with the Insidious Code ability (-100 pts Viral Resistance) and then Code Infection 4.0 the damage over time did not change.   Does that make since.  If you hit a NPC or player  with something that should lower the resistance to a particular type of damage then you should see that damage increase, but it doesn't.  Bug or not?
Also I'd like to state that I think certain damage over time abilities should stack.  Now I know we don't want the Plagues Zone 2.0 and Infect Area 2.0 stacking that would be crazy and we don't want the Code Infections stacking with the other selected single enemy damage over time abilities.  However I would think that the single enemy damage over time should stack with the area damage over time abilities.
If everything is now based off of DPS then it should work itself out.  The area damage over times are lower damage while the single enemy ones are higher.  It's the same as Logic barrage and code nuke.  Logic barrage does more damage to a single person and on your next attack you can hit that person with a code nuke or Dev Field.
Just my thoughts and I definatley would like some clarification on the first part.... Hint hint... Rarebit, NoRepro, Anyone.... :smileyhappy:

Well you are correct on what defense and resistance should do.

I never bothered to compare the damage after I dropped someone's resistance to when I zapped them before the drop...

Just got this coded and am gonna test it out a bit.

And as a heads up I tried both of the debuffs with a standard Logic Blast and Barrage and once again the damage did not change so it is not just limited to the damage over time abilities.  This makes me think that the debuffs are not working properly.

Well was doing some misshs a bit ago...was in the missh area for around 10mins sometimes, which gave me time to do Insidious code a few times throughout.  Did a few of these missions.

I would hit without Insidious code for around 550-600, with it would hit around 900dmg.  But It would not always work when I used Insidious.  Even if I successfully hit a huge group of npc with it, it would do the standard 550-600 damage I would usually do to them....so yeah =P

After some testing I found that any -Viral Resistance debuff applied to the target would increase the damage of the DoT. however realize there is a maximum benefit you can get from your opponent having a low resistance to your type of attack.

So I am guessing that NPC's just have horrible vir resist and hence our debufs don't really do much in that case.

Any tested this on human victims? er uh... testers.

I'll do some PVP testing tonight... and also some testing on a faciton member or someone else who feels like standing around being hacked to death.
Any word about staking area Damage over time with Single Subject Damage over time :smileywink:

I think this is correct... I might need to take a look at the way NPCs deal with resistances and change something to let this push them further.
