IMO, i think we need more than just 2 hotbars. even with the addition of having 2 up now, i still dont have enough space to put all of my abilities on the hotbar, and i am someone that likes to have all their skills up and visible. SMILEY

I think 2 hotbars is fine, you just need to learn to economise which abilities you show, or if you put your abilities from trees on the top hotbar within the first 10 just use keyboard shortcuts to quickly flick between them.

The trick is using the Shift+# to switch hotbars quickly and effciently. Generally use your 11th hotbar for your speed, power, grab, block, withdraw. As well as other basic things, and use the other 10 for things you need to switch quickly.

yeah i agree, but at least an option to have more bars on your screen if you choose. Since not everyone is very skilled with that switching some of us might be more comfortable with some or most of our abilities on the screen. Another thing is not all of us play on a 15" monitor. I'm on a 20.1" Widescreen at 1680x1050, I have plenty of space.

and also 2) add a video option to change the size of the UI (ie makes everything smaller)

Well there is still lots of room left on screen to place some more hotbars, they could do it like they did in World of warcraft, players themself decide if they want to use more hotbars or not. Make them seperate from each other and make it posible to move the hotbars to where ever you want and also to turn them verticaly. The more people can change the interface the way they prefer it the better.

As I noted during the CR2.0 on the test world any UI changes have to work in all resolutions supported by the game. Run the client in 800 x 600 and see how much screen space is available for changes.

Be thankfull that we have 20 slots for our abilities, if you dont remember we used to just have 1 bar. Yes you cant have all abilities but as you level there are abilities that become practically useless. Limited space meaning prioritizing the skills you will use.


That said you can have work arounds for your buffs. Simply make a macro and abilities that would take 5-7 slots on your default bars (1 and 2) suddenly become just one slot to click on, or if you are a fast typer, simply name your buffing macro /buff and watch how quickly it takes to turn on 7 abilities.

I just open my action panel and use that for my tactic choice. That frees up 5 hotbar spaces for somthing else.

There is one thing that has bugged ever since it's implementation. This is where:

Hotbar 1 = 1 -> 20
Hotbar 2 = 1 -> 20

When I feel it should have been,

Hotbar 1 = 1 -> 10
Hotbar 2 = 11 -> 20

Having both hotbars that both go 1 -> 20 is useless.

Rather than more hotbars I'd like to be able to set hotkeys for hotbars 11-20.  You can do shift+1 or shift+2 for hotbars 1 and 2 but there's nothing like that for 11-20.

Hotbars a noob does not make. WoW does need to burn a little, but I feel it never will with Blizzard watching over it. Get it?....laugh, curse you....anyway, two is fine for me, I use the top one for combat abilities, and the bottom for the more general...stuff, like Tactics and Pills.


It's all in the management.


Though having the option for additional hotbars would be...nice...I guess....no clutter for me, extra options for you...yeah it works out....I suppose...

This is a good idea...

The question is does the game engine support dynamic interfaces? Basically would it be possible to code up an option screen for players to say they want 4 hotbars on the screen instead of 2?

If the engine can handle it I say we do it.

what WOULD be a good idea tho is to link Speed , Power , Grab and Block back to WASD keys in IL tho so that we wouldnt have to keep them on the IL fight hotbar SMILEY

Optional hotbars would be really nice.  Perhaps some you could drag around so you can put them where you want.  Having the action panel works in a pinch but its clunky.

I thought about that when I was testing on QA, because I seriously miss having that but .. I would have to learn a new way of running around.  WASD keys are how I primarily run around.  If they changed it back the old way, instead of running around, I'd just be standing still.. changing tactics. 

Which would be funny.. but yeah..

Everyone saying 2 hotbars is fine and more would clutter the screen...well that's your opinion which you are entitled to. Having an option for the rest of us to add another 1 or 2 hotbars wouldn't hurt the ones that don't want it. It could be in the video or key mapping options, just a click and it adds another.

I'd love to have buffs have one bar to themselves, various out of combat techniques or something like Withdraw to be on another line, and in combat techniques on another. Personally I think it's more cluttered to have everything mushed together, to me more hotbars mean more room to make sure certain ability types aren't mashed inbetween techniques unrelated. It's all preference anyway, and while 2 is better than 1, an optional 3rd would be nice SMILEY.

Plus like someone else said, not all of us can think in the mid of battle about needing a buff and remember to hit Shift + whatever hotbar it happens to be on. Not that my memories bad, but I'd just rather have the ability to have it in front of my face than having to search for it because I didn't have the room to put it up.

In that game you could have up to 5 hotbars on screen at once, they were stacked ontop of each other, muchlike the 2hotbars we have now. What this shows is that even at lower resolutions they didnt take up much space, sure they take up more space at lower resolutions that at higher ones, but it should be the players choice to have that many or not. I rarely ever had all 5 open, but when i did it didnt really cripple my view or anything. And the MxO hotbars are pretty small compared to the ones in that game, so even better.

If they wanted to develop a way to add more hotbars could slap a scheme like that one onto thier test servers. to the lower left of the hotbars you'll see a triangle pointing down and a square one, the triangle removed all the hotbars except the main one at the bottom, and the square showed all hotbars, you'll also see the X on the left side of the hotbars, that let you turn off a hotbar if you didnt need it at the moment. Basically it was your choice of how many you want shown, and since they were unmoveable they were able to be designed to take up as little space as possible even with all of them open.

i disagree with those who think you should have to scale back the number of items in your hotbars to fit 2 bars. i could easily use 5, though 4 and change is what i currently use. i use 2 hotbars per row to switch between all the items i find useful in combat. i take offense to the idea i should scale back and limit myself. i would like to add my extra hotbars vertically to the left edge and have them "hide" with a toggle key. i use one row for tactics and dmg resist buffs, one row for specials and more dmg resist buffs, couple tree buffs, one row for more tree buffs and extras like compel close combat, and another for clothing, pills and weird stuff like fly in amber. the 5th i would use for macros, moebius code and misc. but for now i just go one more hotbar down and hope i haven't messed up my timing in combat for the extra time taken to search for it.

 ...how about creating a drag-down hotbar border that makes as many or as few hotbars visible as the player wants (or the screen size permits LOL). It wld also help saving hotbar space if you brought back the classical combat HUD instead of dragging the tactics into the hotbars

Shift+# works very well, if you ask me.

I keep Speed, Power, Grab, Block, Withdraw, Desperation, Adrenaline, Consistent, Empty, and Clear all on Bar #20, so I click down two bars for my lower one. Then I shift between my other four. Using macros for my loadouts, I keep my Upgrades on Bar #1 along with my Hyper abilities and Determination. I also keep pills and Mobius there. On #2 I have my damage modifiers like Firearms Expert, Analyze Weakness, etc. and on #3 Duelist, #4 Rifleman, #5 SMG's, #6 MKT, #7 UGM, #8 Healer, #9 Expiremental, #10 Coder. Plenty of hotbars.

Much as I hate WoW, it is a good idea for side bar.

putting buffs, pills, clothing, macros, and saving Hotbar for abilities 

WoW is $hit but the mods people come up with is nice.

You can access your tactics through your Action window as well by pressing O. You don't have to scroll down but you do get to change not only your tactic but also combat evade and some defenses. Saves you at least 6 hotbar spaces.
Pills, boosters and other consumables can be activated through your inventory by double clicking them. Saves what? 4 spaces?

That's a total of one entire hotbar. My hotbar only includes abilities, no mobius code, not hyperjump, no tactics. Just 20 abilities and it works splendidly.

If we could choose how many hotbars we want then that would be good, my Rifleman LO is spread across 2 hotbars and I keep one hotbar on my tactic changers plus hyper abs, and hacker is hard to keep all abs on one hotbar, if it's possible to have 3 hotbars and other people to have 2 then I don't think it's a particularly bad idea, your happy, I'm happy, banned people arn't, everybodies happy!

Fact is though, you can even give people 20 hotbars on their screen and they still...alright, I am going to overreact here. But they still will be able to get them all full and then complain they actually need 21 hotbars. Not only do they need a hotbar for abilities but then for tactics, consumables (al 7 of them), different types of clothing to switch during pvp, macro's so it's easier to switch but nah, I still want to be able to only switch my shirt everyone once a blue moon. Oh, and I must not forget my other 36 macro's that I need for 1 pvp loadout.

Doesn't matter how many hotbars there are, people always want 1 more. SMILEY
