Well Walrus, we've actually been both producing and collecting MxO player videos at
Machinimatrix.com for several months now, not to mention the fact that we've also taught many new MxO players how to make the very best in-game movies they can. Most of the highest quality MxO player videos (old and new) ever created can already be found there and we're always adding new ones. My own latest MxO video was even chosen for screening at this year's
Academy of Machinima Arts & Science 2005 Machinima Film Festival which wrapped up this past weekend at the Museum of the Moving Image in NYC. It and other selected works of machinima will even be shown on the
Independent Film Channel in the coming months. If that's not already "showing off" the potential of MxO then I don't know what is!
But, I'm not saying that I'm offering up mine or any of these videos for your contest; that's up to each individual video creator. I guess I'm just saying that we've been showing off the creative potential of MxO (and its community) from the very beginning and no one "official" has ever cared. Heck, Monolith/SOE has never even seen fit to add
Machinimatrix.com to its own fan site links. (Bad enough that our MxO video postings were all censored, deleted or banished to this garbage pile RSI forum when SOE took over.) So, would I be all a flutter with excitement to know that devs might actually *now* take the time to stretch a coffee break in order to view our MxO videos? Honestly - No. And am I eager to "prove" to "all of SOE" that I can whip up a mean little chunk of machinima when I want to - No.
Ever since we all first began playing MxO some of us have (without any help nor recognition from anyone "official") killed ourselves testing MxO, loving MxO, playing MxO, filming MxO, promoting MxO and finding ourselves heartbreakingly disappointed by its management time and time again. NOW that we've watched our community die off, now that we've lost most of our MxO friends to other games and NOW that some of the most creative MxO video creators who ever played this game have actually quit playing MxO altogether... NOW you want to see our MxO videos? You just don't get it, do you? MxO once had the most amazingly loyal, creative and passionately enthusiastic fan base I've even seen in an MMO. Now, sadly, all they've left behind of their love of MxO is that collection of player videos we continue to archive over at
Machinimatrix.com. But y'know, feel free to pick through the spoils of our heartbreak.
