Do you make in-game movies? Think you’ve got a talent for it? Well, here’s your chance to prove it to all of SOE.

Early in December, each team will be showing off a movie about their game to the company. Given the kind of talent we have in our community, we’d like to feature at least one player-made movie for The Matrix Online. After all, in the end, the game is about you.

We’re going to be displaying a total of 10 to 15 minutes of footage, which can be either one or multiple movies. You all know what makes these films work: hot music, action, and maybe even a storyline. The only limit is what your imagination can come up with.

Because they will be presented on a big screen, we request that you only submit high-resolution movies. We also prefer that the UI be removed, but if you have an idea that makes good use of it, we’ll consider it.

If you’re up to the challenge, post a link here to your MxO movie. You could have your movie shown to the entire staff of SOE!

It might look a tad bit nicer if there was an option to turn of the
Ignore Pain and Adrinaline booster that the enemy npcs use regularly
during combat.

Just a thought.

There are not necesaraly official submissions, they're meant more to hold everyone over until we finish the new projects - though it would be interesting to see you use some older vids to show progression.

I think it would be a really neat idea to combine clips of everyone's submissions into one big movie. That way, we'd all be able to represent our game and community alike, in part.

What do you guys thing about organizing that sort of thing?

I'd like to request for someone to post advice on how to make a good
fraps video in MxO. Any ways to get good shots while incombat, FPS type
shots, etc.  I want to start making one, but any feedback and
suggestions on how to make good shots in MxO would be greatly
appreciated.

#34400000458 11/12/2005 17:58:01 Re: Show Off MxO Movie Contest - Ends December 1, 2005
I agree, I think everyone should put in their techniques on how to do all the little tricks and also good locations to film.  Don't act like you have some trade secret and keep it to yourself.  #1 its a game and #2 If we are to make a good impression to Big Wigs at SOE we need all the tricks in the book to blow the competition away.

I'm looking forward to his.  You said that we should take the UI out of the video if possible.  Is there a setting to eliminate the graphics that go with interlock combat as well?  I'd like my video to have pure martial arts without wierd shapes flying all over the place

ML has had some ideas rolling around for a good movie but i don't think we can get it done in time for the dead line :smileysad:

Oh! But do you guys remember that movie that was made and it was like a news cast? That would be nice to add. Although i personally don't have the link for it. But! I do have a link for the post that Vosx (DEV) made announcing the news broadcast, maybe some one can dig it up somewhere, or possibly you have it walrus.

http://www.mxoarchive.com/archives/dn1/thematrixonline.warnerbros.com/web/live/news_displaybfb4.html?id=060305_mbt

oh and here is the old link for the tutorial from sevker on how to make a movie masterpiece, enjoy!

http://www.mxoarchive.com/archives/dn1/thematrixonline.warnerbros.com/web/live/news_display3c73.html?id=030905_sevker

*note* you can no longer /sit and zoom to get a first person shot, however if you do a /mood sexy then /sit and zoom you do a get first person shot. For an over head first person shot, you can use precise hyper jump (just click on it)  and you'll have that shot.

One last thing: I've found a very interesting zoom in idea that can be implemented into anyone's video. if you do a precise hyperjump ( just click on it) and then zoom out (middle wheel scrolling backward) until you are way way way up in the clouds. Then press the precise hyper jump again for a slow zoom in from the sky. Hope these helped! And happy filming :smileyvery-happy:

That was easy dude.

First shot: The char starts a jackout. We cut the scene.

Second shot: The char disguise to an agent, starts a jackout then make a very little movment to cancel the jackout.

Those 2 shots in my editing software and this is it SMILEY

Look, there are many more difficult special effects i made in "chapter 3: Jackout", the transformation was the easiest SMILEY)

Yes. Go into "advanced" under the "video" section of your options menu, and set "Effect types" to "none". You may have to restart the game for everything to take effect.

I'm wandering if we can get walrus and the dev team to allow us one night of the "halloween" darkness. That was the coolest setting to play mxo in and could make some really great videos with that.
Unfortunately I didn't take enough advantage with it and only used fraps to capture the moon and darkness instead of a video camera recording it which would give it the high def. qualitySMILEY.

Is there any way to make it for one night so that us movie creaters can use it again for the contest?
#34400000467 11/13/2005 16:49:33 Re: Show Off MxO Movie Contest - Ends December 1, 2005
to turn off the effects you can do as was already said and press "\", then click advanced.  set effects to none, then you can turn off the combat UI text with a check box in the middle (thats the words that display like "powerless, and Stun"

Am I in the right forum?  I am looking for the correct location to
post a 10-15 movie detailing all of the various bugs in Mxo so that
they can be viewed, understood, and acknowledged by SOE employees.

Are we allowed to go over 15 minutes?  I don't know if I can fit everything into a 15 minute window...

#34400000475 11/14/2005 10:03:20 Re: Show Off MxO Movie Contest - Ends December 1, 2005
Well Walrus, we've actually been both producing and collecting MxO player videos at Machinimatrix.com for several months now, not to mention the fact that we've also taught many new MxO players how to make the very best in-game movies they can. Most of the highest quality MxO player videos (old and new) ever created can already be found there and we're always adding new ones. My own latest MxO video was even chosen for screening at this year's Academy of Machinima Arts & Science 2005 Machinima Film Festival which wrapped up this past weekend at the Museum of the Moving Image in NYC. It and other selected works of machinima will even be shown on the Independent Film Channel in the coming months. If that's not already "showing off" the potential of MxO then I don't know what is!

But, I'm not saying that I'm offering up mine or any of these videos for your contest; that's up to each individual video creator. I guess I'm just saying that we've been showing off the creative potential of MxO (and its community) from the very beginning and no one "official" has ever cared. Heck, Monolith/SOE has never even seen fit to add Machinimatrix.com to its own fan site links. (Bad enough that our MxO video postings were all censored, deleted or banished to this garbage pile RSI forum when SOE took over.) So, would I be all a flutter with excitement to know that devs might actually *now* take the time to stretch a coffee break in order to view our MxO videos? Honestly - No. And am I eager to "prove" to "all of SOE" that I can whip up a mean little chunk of machinima when I want to - No.

Ever since we all first began playing MxO some of us have (without any help nor recognition from anyone "official") killed ourselves testing MxO, loving MxO, playing MxO, filming MxO, promoting MxO and finding ourselves heartbreakingly disappointed by its management time and time again. NOW that we've watched our community die off, now that we've lost most of our MxO friends to other games and NOW that some of the most creative MxO video creators who ever played this game have actually quit playing MxO altogether... NOW you want to see our MxO videos? You just don't get it, do you? MxO once had the most amazingly loyal, creative and passionately enthusiastic fan base I've even seen in an MMO. Now, sadly, all they've left behind of their love of MxO is that collection of player videos we continue to archive over at Machinimatrix.com. But y'know, feel free to pick through the spoils of our heartbreak.

Very nice site you have there Neuronomicon.  I'm pretty sure some of your clips will make it.  And After the SOE transition I think the Player links went away because I remember they used to have a very update list of nice links.  If it was there and useful like it was before I'm sure you'd be on there.
#34400000478 11/15/2005 03:31:19 Re: Show Off MxO Movie Contest - Ends December 1, 2005
Neuronomicon, i completely agree with you.

Since the beginning, you brought a great support to all movies creator in the MxO community with your website. And since the beginning we all stayed away from the eyes of Monolith/SOE teams.

Some quit, i did then i came back few weeks ago. Why? ok events coming up soon that s a fact but beyond this, the passion to make others movies SMILEY (yeah MxO offers a universe, great emotes for acting, but not a First Person view yet >.< to make great travelling shoots :p)

Today, official team wakes up. Let s say it s better late than never. Let's show'em we're still here cause we have no FEEEAAAR!! hmm sorry ^^

A new video from Wens team is coming up today (hilarious i hope heh) i ll post the link here.

Let's keep up the passion feed our hearts Neuro SMILEY

Hit alt+j, zoom in all the way to your char, and use the scroll wheel to move a little above your char's head. Easy first person running view, although it seems a little too high for doorways and stuff.

#34400000492 11/16/2005 22:05:12 Re: Show Off MxO Movie Contest - Ends December 1, 2005
Alright Walrus, ol' buddy ol' pal. Riddle me this:

1. Can we use any music of our choice?

2. Can we add sound effects (such as adding gunshot sounds and hit sounds from the movies)?

3. Can we add effects (such as explosions or slo-motion not created by the game)?

If these are all cool I'll try to whip up the coolest MxO movie ever over Thanksgiving break.
