Back in Beta, at one point I could load Kung Fu Master, Arbalest, and Vector, or abilities throughout those trees, at one time. This allowed a great deal of freedom when creating a build.

You had FM/Gunman/KT, Hacker/Patcher, MA/Hacker, Patcher/MA, Spy/Hacker, Spy/MA, etc

It made things more interesting, but was sadly removed to stop, "Uber Builds".

And you basically can't please everyone, since they did this because other players were complaining.  Now that this is done, we have other players complaining.
#12800000473 10/28/2005 18:47:28 Re: PvP in MxO and it's downfalls?

I think the most simple thing in the game that directly downplays the combat - the seperation between free-fire and interlock. I mean how the hell is it possibly fair for someone to be keep getting shot (and having pretty much zero defense) while being interlocked with someone else. It doesn't LOOK good (nothing like the matrix). It's clunky, slow, and 2 dimensional. Either they need to make everyone go into interlock (the only reasonable solution) or remove the option altogether. Without an effective means to multi-fight, the games combat system (essentially the centre of the game's aim!) is pretty much broken.

I love the game, I do. A HELLAVA lot more than other traditional MMOs - SWG, WoW, FFXI, EQ2. It is more innovative than those games but desperately needs more work for all it's promises to be practical. SOE is on the right track, but I again will be taking a break. Anxious to see more about this supposed "combat revision."

Could go either way...

OK... to be perfectly honest, I love MxO. I've been
nurturing it since the beginning and It will always hold a special
place in my heart (sorry for the soppy crap :smileytongueSMILEY. But the
game just isn't giving me what I expected from it and that frustrates
me greatly... WoW has a very good game engine that is keeping me more
than occupied at the moment. I don't know what you've heard about it
but it's a very good game. The game mechanics are genius even if they
did rip them off from every MMO out there. I'll be playing it for a
while until MxO sorts its crap out. And please... MxO has allot of crap
to sort out.... I love PVP but with the currant game engine it’s pretty
much pointless... Yes that sounds harsh but can you really blame me?!
I’ll more than likely come back to MxO because as I beta tested for so
long, I feel like I’ve played a part in MxO’s development. It’s just
sad that everything we warned them about before the game went live has
played a direct part in the games demise. And if you wonder what I mean
by that… I’m talking about the poor fan base MxO currently holds.

Sorry
if it seems like I’m just trying to bash your hobby, it’s not my
intention. I’m just frustrated at waiting for the best, the best that
was promised to us when the game was released. Something we are yet to
see and that I am greatly looking forward to.

This
game has so much potential… If only SOE would give us more information
on their upcoming changes… Then maybe we could start placing a bit more
faith in a game we all love.

Hey guys!

I happened to be on and did a search for postings, and well...I realized I had forgotten to post the screenshots I took of the "Kill the DJ" event.

So without further ado, here it is.

It is a bit large, as I run my MxO at 1280x1024, so I hope the post doesnt get deleted. :smileysurprised:

Cheers!

Cheers for the screen OmniDo, I feel all famous now.  :smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy:

But seriously, that mini-event rocked, and the variety adds that extra
little something to the game.  I hope there are more events soon. :smileyhappy:

mxo's downfall is that pvp is pointless and takes no skill.

wow's downfall is that its queer.

clearly the victory goes to mxo.

Yeah, I'm surprised they let the pointlessness go on so long.  I expect them to eventually do something about it.  Make the CQ points mean something.

I also think it'd be cool if it was like "Goldeneye" (the old N64 game), where if the person dies you get their stuff.  I think it'd be too much to just loot the body and get everything in their inventory, but looting their body and getting their info, now there's something.  But of course there'd be pleanty who would be pissed at this as well.

hahaha.... that post made me grin for a while... so true...

just one thing to add: mxo's pvp can be fixed, wow will stay the epitome of gayness untill it's end...
#12800000481 10/31/2005 13:20:20 Re: PvP in MxO and it's downfalls?
Im sorry. I was so wrong to question the greatness of MxO's combat and
PvP system. MxO is so great and has the best combat system I have ever
seen! WoW just lied when they said they have 3million+ subscribers
because I mean really why would 3 MILLION people wanna play that game?
I mean I bet it's MxO that has 3million subscribers because of its
elite and PERFECT combat system.

/end sarcasm

#12800000482 10/31/2005 13:26:30 Re: PvP in MxO and it's downfalls?
Im with Hack on the sarcasm.  Open your eyes people WoW created
pvp the way it should and from experience I havent played an MMO that
can test WoW when it comes to pvp.  If MxO truely had a worth
while pvp system more people would flock to Vector and it wouldnt be
such a desert wasteland all the time.

from what i hear wow has a good combat system. apart from being
penalized for ganking lowbies which basically takes away all the fun i
have in online games.

in any case ive considered buying wow but from what ive been able to find out the game overall isnt remotely worth my time.

I used to say daily "I don't think I would ever like WoW, the whole
D&D fantasy land crap isn't that cool". Well don't knock it until
you try it. It's not as D&D fantasy land as I thought it has a
twist to it that some how makes it interesting..plus the items and what
not are awesome. MxO's Megacity is big but it doesn't seem THAT big
because of the fact that we can travel via hardline, hyper jump and get
to places so fast things take a short time. WoW is also big...not sure
if its BIGGER but they let you move fast..but not so fast you can cross
the world in 10seconds and it gives a sense of "*CENSORED* this place is
HUGE"...all I can really say is you gotta play it to understand
it...love it or hate it I promise you would see why it has 3mil users.

Your post loses value for simply saying WoW is "queer."  What kind
of comparison is that if you want to get your point across you need to
back up why MxO is better than WoW then simply stating its queer.

Yes, but plenty of people can come here at the MxO forums and outright say MxO sucks.  And we must sit back and consider their feelings and say "it's just their opinion".

Which is right that's what we should do.  But if someone wants to say "WoW is queer" by all means let them.

I have 3 lvl 60 chars in WoW....  I even bought the domain
frostwhisper.net (the last WoW server I played on) because I wanted to
set up a server forum (that was when they didn't have their own
official server boards)... so I guess I got involved enough into WoW to
form an opinion about it... about everyone I started to play with, and
that includes half of my EQ guild, has stopped playing that game.. many
went to EQ2, others simply went back to EQLive and me, I went to MxO
and i am happy about the choice...  even if WoW sells 10 million
copies, that doesn't make it a good game... but when every MMORPG vet I
know gets bored after a few weeks, it surely tells me something about
it's quality... or maybe it just doesn't appeal to longtime EQ players
because its so babyeasy and doesn`t involve any strategy... ok, there
are raid-like encounters but every halfway organized guild can rush
through the content of WoW in like 4 weeks, maybe less...  its a
game for noobs and kids...  sorry, thats my view on the game and I
don`t want to offend anyone... I was addicted long enough myself to
know it can be really appealing, but in the end the word "queer" is
pretty accurate...

Go
through the content of WoW in about 4 weeks with a good guild...well go
through the content of MxO in about 8 hours with a good faction..and if
you wanna try missions as content then about 6 days total. Noobs and
Children? So I take it that MxO has a much more mature community..so
mature that it directly effects its user base. If it sold 10 million
copies it would be an awesome game..you don't have to like it to make
it good. In MxO at level 50 all I do is
sit...sit..stand..sit..stand..PvP...sit..sit..sit. In WoW I do
everything but that. MxO not "babyeasy"? I did about 98% of MxO
solo..and in PvP if you're a hacker that knows when to click what you
can be a one man army..it's not hard for me to load up MKT with a 74 in
Perception and camp at HL on Vector and pick people off...it goes this
easy Subduing Throw>AW>Staggering Throw>Throat Cutting
Throw>Free Fire..dead..thats pretty hard to do I know..so hard...it
can't possibly be in the category of "babyeasy"...or like Stun
1.0,Nuke,Nuke,Nuke..dead...now thats a bit harder to do. There is never
a point in 1v1 combat in WoW where you are rendered 100% helpless for
the period of time to kill you before you hit one single thing..unless
you just don't know *CENSORED* you're doing. I have had 3 level 50's I can
form an opinion on MxO..I was loyal before launch..wasn't in beta but I
was SOLD on this game the second I heard about it...now certain things
have made me look and see all of the down falls that make me make this
thread and point it out...but everybody is "blind" to the fact that
this game lacks in so many areas that it will take nothing short of a
miracle...not even a re-release of this game would probably be able to
spark..there is just too much crap on the net about this game for it to
ever be worth while.  But remember MxO is a very hard game to
play..knowing purple from red take some serious thought..and WoW is
just so easy and so queer that nobody but children and noobs should
play it.
#12800000491 11/01/2005 03:11:22 Re: PvP in MxO and it's downfalls?
you fail to understand that WoW, unlike MxO, is just another EQ
clone...  with the emphasis on uber-loot and raid encounters (even
though WoW raids take alot less people, 3 groups is the most you
need)... MxO is a totally different game, there are no raids in MxO and
factions have a totally different function as guilds have in WoW or
EQ...  your faction provides powerleveling and protection in pvp,
but you wont need your factionmates to get the uber-loot you need to be
competitive...  terms like DKP or Merit Loot will never make it
into MxO because it's a different style of gameplay.. so I don't
compare WoW with MxO but I compare it with EverQuest.. and for an EQ
type game it fails miserably, even DAoC has alot more to offer...

for short:  when I say WoW is **bleep** I do it as an EQ player and not as an MxO player ....

#12800000492 11/01/2005 07:46:43 Re: PvP in MxO and it's downfalls?
Actually, you can ask the Blizzard devs themselves where they got the
idea for their PvP system and overall combat system and they'll
resoundingly tell you, it was DAoC, no doubt they got a few ideas from
EQ as well as many other games, the crafting system itself they've even
admitted to had simply adapted from SWG, but also, so did MxO for that
matter as far as crafting goes as well as many other games. I've played
WoW on and off from the day it was first released, and I have friends
were in WoW beta from the moment of its conception and still play it to
this day and love it, and these guys are people who've I've known for
years in DAoC, a little over 4 years to be more exacting. DAoC never
got quite as popular as EQ, but any MMO vet who knew of it would tell
you, if you wanted PvP, you go to DAoC, which it's been around nearly
as long as EQ as a matter of fact, EQ is only a year older than it. I
was in EQ as well, 2 years, was even one of those who beta tested it,
but after trying out DAoC, I waved goodbye to EQ and remained in DAoC
while trying out other games for a short time but only to return to
DAoC in the end. But after all, since the majority of my friends either
going to WoW to be with those of us who left DAoC for it, the rest of
us moved on to other games, myself and another DAoC vet came to MxO,
but that friend of mine got bored with the PvP system here and moved to
WoW with the rest of our friends; while I remain here because of the
numerous friends I've made and continuing to play WoW on and off.

So I have a bit of MMO experience as well, and as I tell everyone, MMOs
ALL have their problems, what it ALWAYS comes down to is: what you are
willing to put with and what you are not. For several the amount
problems consisting within MxO's gameplay has caused many to leave, or
take a leave of absence from the game to come back when SOE finally
impliments the changes they are claiming to make to the game mechanic.
Although, I find SephyX's thread about the combat revamp being right on
the money as well as everything else pretaining to MxO, a very good
read. The game maybe good enough for some currently, there is still no
denying this game has a long way to go for it's core game mechanic to
on par with WoW or most other games for that matter. This is a good
game, or at the very least has the potential to be, and it can
potentially be so much more, but in my eyes, potential means very
little, because either is or is not, and so right now I'm one of the
many waiting for that combat revamp, it may not fix everything or even
save the game, but at least changes will be made, and change is
sometimes all that is needed to make something just a bit better.

OK, i've never played WoW, but i know people who do. They say its a pretty good game. And i'm not the one to argue with them. But plz, MxO may not be in the highest quality range as of yet, but theres still a thought process involved. I mean, have you ever really considered that its possible for anyone to get an average of 378? AN average. Have you ever looked at all the trees? studied them? found a weakness in ANY layout? As for rare items not being rare, i suggest you go into the hideout in Stamos and see how many watchers shades you get with your 50.it's all about doin things at the right time, and being able to see those things at that time. Hindsight is easy, its the thins that are happening thta are hard for many people to see.  If all you do is sit around then you are not a very creative person. There are many things to go out and DO, complete, and study. It sounds to me as if you have taken the easy way out in PvP yourself and used hacker/knifer, the two quickest kill builds besides maybe assassin. I mean, i know that hacker doesnt take much skill, but say, what do you do if your opponent has sweep? or VD? or Both? I don't run hacker, but i have, and there are things you have to consider. just as a knifer has to deal with DR, other hackers, and IL. All you have to do is pay attention, and you could see that it isnt mindless. No more so than many other games.
