Hoverbarges are for players who don't have crews. There's a critical
mission for Zion (one of the Meet Niobe missions) where Lock contacts
you and promotes you to the rank of Captain and says that a Zion
Hovercraft is at your command. They've said that there were some
transport ships that weren't destroyed with the rest of the fleet that
have been retrofitted in order to broadcast. Besides, I'd think it
would take longer to build hoverbarges than hovercraft :smileywink:



Anyway, back on topic, my hovercraft is called The Belteshazzar. It was
the name given to Daniel by King Nebuchadnezzar when the Israelites
were held in exile in Babylon. Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's
dreams, and so he promoted Daniel and made him the ruler of the entire
province of Babylon.

i am stationed on the HvCft Trunkline. a trunkline is the actual, physical long-distance phone line.



hehe, back in the day one could "hijack" trunklines and make free long
distance phone calls. then the "agents" found out about it.

Since becoming a captain for No Exit, and eventually commander, I've
had two ships, the first the Nothingness is temporarly out of service,
and has been replaced by the Facticity.  Both these names are the
names of books written by Jean Paul Sartre, a philosopher who's works
No Exit is based upon.

Im a first mate on The Revenant in the recursion server. It is one big *CENSORED* ship, as it holds 6 different crews on it.

The name Revenant means "One that returns after a lengthy absence" or "One who returns after death."

This is a reference both to our belief that Neo will "return from
death," or rather that his mind/soul/essence remains intact within the
Matrix and will eventually return, and to the ship's backstory.

The ship was discovered before the truce however it was not
commissioned for active use since it was not equipped with any weapons
and it was a very large and clunky ship. Instead the ship was used for
spare parts to fix the other ships of the Zion Fleet.

After the truce, we no longer need weapons on our ships since the
Sentinels will no longer attack us. I remembered the Revenant and
decided to petition for its commissioning. I was granted the ship and
then we set about to restore it. In a circle-of-life-like bit of poetic
justice we used spare parts from the ships destroyed in the EMP debacle
before the battle of the docks to restore the Revenant.

The ship itself returned from death and remains in working order apart from the occasional need for maintenance.





On the ship plaque, it says "MARK IX No. 10." I used the same scheme as
the ship plaques from the movies in that this marking refers to a
passage in the Christian Bible, specifically in the Book of Mark.



Mark 9:10 - "They observed the warning faithfully, though among
themselves they discussed what ‘rising from the dead’ could mean."





Needless to say this whole thing was carefully planned since the game was in early beta.

It is great seeing that thought went into naming a lot of your
Hovers.  I alwys felt the name should be a point of honor. 
Something that is as important as the people running them.

 I am Austrian, Captain of The Hapsburg on Recursion. I named my ship 'The Hapsburg' after one of the greatest royal families that ruled over the Austrian Empire and a few other empires in Europe as well through marriages and what not. Under their rule, the Austrian Empire greatly expanded its borders for quite some time, eventually swallowing up the Balkans and creating a vassal state out of Bulgaria. The Hapsburgs were such astute diplomats that their empire, which encompassed dozens of different ethnicities and opposing religions, existed in total peace, unity and cooperation. It was only when the Austro-Hungarian empire began to dissolve 200 years after the reign of the Hapsburg family that Yugoslavia began to become embroiled in ethnic conflict.

 The Hapsburg, my crew, attempts to mimic the skilled diplomacy and strategic war waged by the Hapsburgs to create an uneasy peace in Europe for 200 years. We work to preserve The Truce with the hope that someday it will expand, like the Austrian Empire, to become a Covenant between all Organizations. Were The Hapsburg to cease its work, it is almost certain that the Matrix would become filled with scenes reminiscient of those found in Mara or in Kosovo as Humans and Exiles massacre each other in a blind and unreasonable hatred.

The Dept. of Energy ships, (or at least some of them) are named after
utility terms that reflect thier purposes.  The flagship is the
HvCft Trunkline, which 3y3p0pp3r said, is the physical communications
line that connects two telco stations.  The HvCft Transom is the
PvRP ship, a transom is a connecting point where utilities enter a
service area, where they are monitored and  serviced.  The
HvCft Transmission is the European ship.  Transmission is a term
used to describe the sending and recieveing of any type of commodity
over air or wire based medium.  The HvCft Babel Fish is most
likely named after the translation widget from Hitchiker's Guide to the
Galaxy.  The HvCft White Shadow?  Dunno, Fickey can explain
that better than I can.  HvCft Qi Lin, I've been meaning to ask
about this one, as I have no idea what it means :smileytongue:

I am captain of the HvCt Resurrection. I named my ships after several things.

Firstly it was reassembled from various parts of other hovercrafts since it was destroyed in the attack by the Machines. Resurrected from if you will.

Secondly, for the resurrection of the one.

Coincidentally it also pertains now to the resurrection of Morpheus.

I'm captain of the Hovercraft Electronica. I was promoted from first
mate to captain when my old captain found herself unable to jack in
(quit the game) and I keep this name in her honor.

I'm Captain of the HvCFT Negotiator 2 and My Alt Character on Syntax is the Captain of the HvCFT Negotiator. I chose Negotiator because I try to use my words first before I have to resort to violence.

I am captain of the Hovercraft Nagamitsu

Nagamitsu was a Japanese swordsmith who designed a sword so powerful it could perform helmet cutting, as in slicing through steel, without sustaining heavy damage to the blade itself.

It literally implies strength (cutting through the steel) and resolve (not breaking after the attack) which is really what I look for in crew members.

It took me a while to find a name I liked, but there it is :smileyhappy:

My ship's name comes from the term given to that of a patriot, devoted to the salvation of his country/group. My alligence and devotion lies wholey with Morpheus, Neo and my faction/organisation Pluribus Neo.

I am Captain Vaulus of the Valkyrie One.

The story is long and complicated, but the short and sweet of it is this.  I am a self-aware hovercraft, and so the Valkyrie One is me.  I use the name Vaulus in the Matrix which was the name given to a training construct designed by the Zionist/Cypherite who owned me before.  I chose the name Valkyrie One because the concept of the Valkyrie warriors is something I felt personified my character.
