#10400133649 12/15/2005 14:43:51 Re: Ask the devs an MXO question
Wolf if you read his post about clothing.  Clothing wont be as important anymore so you can basicly wear what you want and it wont affect you like it does now.
#10400133650 12/15/2005 14:44:47 Re: Ask the devs an MXO question
I already do...

+ My loadout is dataminer and I still manage to outroll lvl 50 Grand masters at level 44
#10400133651 12/15/2005 14:46:04 Re: Ask the devs an MXO question
Basically it removes the need for any buffed clothes / any clothes for that matter
#10400133652 12/15/2005 14:50:02 Re: Ask the devs an MXO question
I somehow doubt it will remove the purpose of buffed clothing to the extent you guys are making it sound like :smileytongue:
#10400133653 12/15/2005 14:55:35 Re: Ask the devs an MXO question
totally nerfing clothes would
defeat the purpose of having collectors, exile dungeons and construct
bosses in the first place, so no, i don't think it will be that
drastic, although my guess is they will try to mediate the effects so
outcomes of combat won't rely so heavily on who's wearing the yoshi
trench.

What's with the glitchy ads?

Are you going to fix them and Why can't I see the new ones?

Can I be Neo?

Can you contact twitch and tell him to come back to us?

Yes, at least I'm aware of it. I think it probably isn't quite as easily feasible as you might hope, though. SMILEY

Oh and since it's related -- it's true that clothing isn't being
completely nerfed. I am not totally in on exactly what the CR is doing,
since I'm busy on other things, but my impression is this:

Say you have a fight between two people, they're both Aikido
Grandmasters. One of them is really good at the game, loves to PvP all
the time, has all their points in perception, but is naked. The other
one has all the uber clothes on, but just got all of their Aikido
stuff, and in fact leveled to 50 using Data Miner, and all their points
are in Reason.

With the existing combat system, I suspect it would be more of an even
fight, because clothing can really add a lot to your rolls, plus add a
ton of health regen, IS regen, etc. Actually if the second person was
that much of a noob, they'd probably lose no matter what. But you see
where I'm going - the clothes really matter a lot.

In the new system, I think it's going to be a lot different. Primarily
the attributes are going to affect a lot more. It won't be any more
"put all your points into perception if you're MA", but the person with
a good MA attribute build will have a big advantage over a person with
a good, say, hacker build. So probably no matter what the second person
wears, the first person will now have a bigger advantage.

Of course when it comes down to two people who both have a good MA
build and both really know how to fight, the clothing might still be
the deciding factor.

And keep in mind, all of this is coming from someone who's not entirely in the loop, just my impression from hearing about it SMILEY

Have you sent out any applications? SMILEY

I was helped a lot by some message boards where I could read stuff from
people who were already in the industry. I met some local game people
through that, so I had some contacts, although they didn't end up
getting me my job. I spent several years practice, practice, practicing
my 3d modeling skills until I had a good enough portfolio to get looked
at. A good portfolio is a must, at least for any sort of artist/level
design/graphic design position.

And don't take rejection - or even downright ignoring of your applications - personally. Just keep plodding along!

Are you referring to this thread?

http://mxoboards.station.sony.com/matrix/board/message?board.id=general&message.id=53770

If so... I think there are a lot of cool ideas.

Some of them, like the thing about having rep with certain contacts or
factions of contacts, would be kind of tricky. In addition to that, it
would be against the original design of the neighborhood contacts. The
design was always from the beginning, that your work with the Orgs
would affect rep, while the neighborhood contacts were bonus material
and anyone could play through all of it, regardless of what the story
implications are. And quite frankly, I like that... the more
neighborhood contact missions you play, the less assassination missions
you grind SMILEY

I really like the idea of breadcrumbing people around the city to the
different contacts. When I get a chance, I'm going to see if I can make
an item that adds a waypoint on your map.

Also, I don't know that anybody mentioned this, but if each of the
neighborhood contacts gave out a unique buffed item at the end, maybe
we could fill in the item gaps, as well as provide an extra incentive
to play the neighborhood missions.

To make a long story short (too late!) I think using email in ways to
promote the story, and to spread content more, is a very good thing.

And tell me if I read the wrong thread SMILEY

Oh. Well, the cinematic probably cheats it. I can take a look (not that I mean we'll be getting this ever). But we've already had a discussion before in this thread about reasons why a ground-cracking effect could be tough to do right for actual player hyper-jumps.

EDIT: Ah, neat, thanks for the screenshot, Orien. Yeah, that would be faked up, and pretty nicely done, too. Probably took some work to line up right.

I've seen a lot of suggestions for the email system in that and other threads. At this time we don't have room in the schedule for additional email features--even the ones we'd like ourselves.

As for the CR2.0 screenshot: Honestly, looking at still images won't show you much about the revision. The Combat UI is gone, there are new targeting reticles beneath the players' feet, and you'll see a few extra state icons. However, I know you're itching for more about CR2.0, so here it is. Keep in mind: Even when you first get to play it, this is still a work in progress.

Hmm... it's nice to have the combat tactics out of the way but it seems we'll need double hotbars here.

#10400133691 12/15/2005 17:17:29 Re: Ask the devs an MXO question
Well I am glad to see the interlock UI gone, because it is more surprising to me, if you see the roll even before the animation.  It will be better, but what is up with the 1-4 hot bars?  Isn't WSAD supposed to control that?  I agree, all we need is just one more row of hotbars per line.  It would be GREAT!
#10400133692 12/15/2005 17:45:02 Re: Ask the devs an MXO question
All I can say, is very cool.  Hopefully we will be able to get
more hotbar space t hough if that's the case, my MA loadouts are
usually full :-/

Now
that the combat UI is gone, will we be able to use the WASD keys for
something else than choosing the combat tactic? Eg moving around _IN_
interlock? Everything else seems strange to me. Why stop using the
combat UI when not using the keys for moving inside interlock?

In the risk of asking a question that deals with "future developments", any plans to have some out-of-game content, like, oh, fake websites of the fake billboards in the Matrix.

www.slumberil.com for instance.

Because they get in the way of the cool interlock animations, it's cooler with them out.

I don't see why they wouldn't just keep the Combat HUD in use at all times. That way, our hotbars stay free for 10 abilities per bar. And trust me, I need all 10 of those slots. SMILEY

That would not fit for people at 800x600 resolution, they'd have to make the icons smaller, which, in turn, would make the icons of people that play at 1600x1200 too small.
#10400133701 12/15/2005 21:53:00 Re: Ask the devs an MXO question
I say use the space just to the right of the compass... it's never used so it won't interfere with much.

As long as those tactics still map on the keyboard like the hyperjump command... we don't need to waste hotbar space with them at all.
