While it would be awesome, judging by what Rarebit said I don't think we're going to have new emotes in a long time.

Disclaimer:
I don't have a clue as to what it might take to actually create a new
emote but it seems to require motion capture actors & software
& installations to make it happen which with current ressources
would be a big no-no.

That's going to be extremely cool.

might finally be the time for me to get one of those nifty mega city sigs from Void.

anyone know if they are going to redo the old cinematics using this technique?

The current cinematics will stay as they are.  This was asked before in the Ask a Dev thread.

I think it will be cool, I mean Chadwicks Assassin drawings made me /drool

Thats all true, but I wouldnt think the animations would need to be recaptured. We already know the animation works, since it has since forever. Hopefully it would be easier than making a new emote from scratch.

eh...I liked the old cinamatics more
#10300003208 05/20/2006 22:07:42 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, May 19, 2006

First one in while that gets a WooHoo!

And...Data Node Suggestions.

1.  Make data miner a part of the mission system linking computers with outside datablobs.

2.  Create mobs (agents) that activate when Data Goggles turned on.  Data Miner is part of the spy tree.

3.  Change the outcome so that mobs can also result from data mining.

last but not least.

4.  If you remember the penguin game where the yeti throws the penguin up and it bounces from side to side.  The better the angle, the higher the penguin went as it bounced from side to side.  Well, do something similar where the harder datablobs have to be retrieved by bouncing a single off the sides of buildings.

Anyway, 5.1 woohoo!

How can you not like it? No more dumb annoying old emotes etc.

I'm loving this! So original, so unique.
I've always loved Comic Noir's, it's reminding me of Max Payne. SMILEY
I like how MXO is sticking true to it's predecessor's, like Animatrix and Matrix Comic. Finally Matrix Online will feel like Matrix, in one way at least. SMILEY

In other words; Paul Chadwick FTW.
#10300003210 05/21/2006 04:38:42 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, May 19, 2006
Wait... so the Animatrix and the Comics were "Matrixy", but the movies and EtM weren't? Is the photo-realistic look of MxO "unMatrixy"? Hmmm...

Holy **bleep**!  My question in the Ask Rarebit thread actually got a bug fix!  I feel so...listened to.

And Phrog's!  Excellent!

I know man... whoever out there wants to say that the devs aren't listening around here hasn't tried talking to them SMILEY

For the record, the new cinematics style looks AWESOME. The in-game style engine never ever did it for me. It was like watching people play the game, and thus, not terribly exciting. Having a new, hand drawn animation cinematic every now and then will not only be very awesome but unique and make them feel like *something special*.

No more double tap roll... *sigh*

I suppose I'm supposed to just sit there when I get attacked while coding a level 50 item, and wait for the timer to run out and to die. One more advantage for the Zerg.

How is using black and white comics going to possibly make it feel more Matrixy?? The old way was perfect- you got to watch ingame video's of storyline characters!  I think that these Comic Strip ideas are ruining the experience... Isnt the game supposed to resemble the Movies? I dont remember watching black and white drawings of Neo fighting Smith..

Horrible idea. It makes it makes it look like SOE is getting lazy or something, when in reality they arent at all..and just so you all dont think im dogging SOE, I think they've done a great job so far with the game and I have loved every minute of it!

I do however, think all the other updates are great!!! Im so glad they are finally getting rid of style stacking!

Well, it's called Comic "Noir" for a reason....

But the cinematics look awesome, IMO. I mean they've got a dark,
mysterious feel to them, and it's that feeling that makes the Matrix.

OK... I don't know sh1t anyway, it was just an assumption. :smileyvery-happy:

However, I'm still curious why people take the Animatrix and the Comics as the basis for Matrix style, not the movies, EtM or "Final Flight". Wherever I look: "CGI is ludicrous, I mean come on, photo-realism is lame! Cartoon is teh rulez!!"

Just kidding :smileytongue:

Well I'd say that both are Matrixy. I'm excited about this different medium though and we'll see how they can pull it off. Especially because they said they can do much more with this than the other method.

New patch is looking good Walrus. I'm really looking forward to proving I can still do the same damage with my punt because I don't stack. Cinematics look awesome indeed. Double Tap Roll....you will be missed.

PS: I STILL don't see boxers on that Patch Walrus. Maybe you missed it or something.

Don't forget about me now. :smileywink:
#10300003234 05/24/2006 13:40:55 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, May 19, 2006

Increased NPC Damage

This is good, balancing should be an on-going process.Anything that makes the NPCs a bit tougher means that my services as Doctor will be needed more, meaning I might have to start charging for res...This also makes it fun to re-determine which Exile Gang Territory has the right balance of the thrill of victory and the heart pounding fear of defeat.

Ability Tree Modification

That’s cool, especially with the bargain price on leveling them.We were a bit worried about the two Styles showing up together. Now to test and see if my Doctor Kungfu still works…

20 additional spaces to everyone's Central Storage

Maybe someday I’ll fill tat thing up with more than just bits, but for now, this is a good upgrade.

No More Double-Tap Rolling

This is a sad day for PS10N.The very first time I jacked in and was learning the keys, this was the first move I found.I spent a few minutes rolling around the field by the R.TP(W) Hardline in every direction. So, this is something that’s been there since Day one and was useful in rollplaying, movie making and escaping from Coding when under attack.I second the motion for /rollforward, /rollback, /rollright, /roleft.You already have the animations, so go for it.

Data Node Changes

Yes!Thank you. This makes the leisure hours in MxO much more profitable. It’s nice to have something to do when the day’s killing is done.

Episode 2.0 Event Item Changes

Is the new 10% rating better or worse than the Zion Hardware Requisition did before?I’ll check some screenshots, but this sounds as if it’s an upgrade and balance at the same time. Thanks!I have fond memories of the moment Neurophyte appeared out of nowhere.

Episode 5.1 Begins (and new cinematic style)

Welcome to the next part of the story line! This is great. What is past is prologue. The stage is set; the players are ready. As someone noted, in more than a year we’ve barely covered the first year of plot. What I see in this new cinematic style is a writer (Paul Chadwick) who is eager to advance the story and keep things moving. He probably has a whole office or two full of materials and is frustrated at the time it takes to get his ideas into play.If moving to a comic style will keep the plot moving fast, I’m all for it.If you have the very first issue of The Matrix Online Magazine (March, 2005,) check the art in it and you will see sketches of the Assassin, Cryptos, Shimada, Anome and others. If those characters had been conceived and developed that early on and took so long to get in play, think of what’s ready to role out now.Bring it on, and make it a double. (This will also save SOE a lot of money, turning what looks essentially to be storyboard drawings into the cinematics, as there are probably stacks of these already drawn up and ready to go.)
