lol, nice video Walrus.
O_O
Umm walrus does this mean your finally releasing the Baseball hat...
And yeah I like how combat looks. :p
The 2-hotbar system is a must, and I'm very glad they've finally decided to impliment it. However, a couple things bugged me about the video. The devs said they wanted to make interlock faster, but they've added two more animations for the power and speed attacks, which takes it last longer. It basically looks exactly like the system we have now, except now with no way to tell what your rolls are.
Also, this has been discussed before, but the fact that your basic attacks take up half your hotbar is also odd. Yes, the 2-hotbar system will help, but it's still a little inconvenient. If one of the main things they've changed is the interlock hud, then I must say that it's something that didn't really need to be changed or removed.
Of course, I'll have to actually test it out myself to get the bigger picture :smileyhappy:

though...are those pics from QA or from a live server, and are just
doctored?

I actually like it alot better and with the 2 hotbar's this will simplify things even more... Also with the old combat UI it would cover up Downgrades on you so you had no idea when they were ending... Now you have a clear picture to whats going on including whats going on around u
lol, I just noticed the awesome hat walrus is wearing in the Video. I just got happy. Also in the second hotbar pic its obviously the live version since I see SgtClunk and a few others. Just think they were just feet from the famous Walrus and never knew it. lol! I like the new animations and I like how interlock has a more "airy". By that i mean it doesn't feel like your trapped in a box of interlock. I think I'll like this change.
Also Walrus, will we be able to see our rolls somewhere?

And omgwtfbaseballhats!!!111oneoneoneshiftone
The Animations could still be smoothened out a little bit but it still rocks!
LOL look at the floor its like were playing smack down.
do we press R2 to select a new opponent?? LOL sorry it made me laugh. I kinda like it but it dose look the same, not quite as fluid as I would have hoped. I dunno about faster.
also that is really a pain that your normal attacks cannot be placed using the directional buttons. So what will directions be used for? I like the idea of 2 bars but I use the numbers a lot so what am I meant to do when using 2 bars. Press one button and have 2 things happen at once? Unlikely. hmmm I really want to try this for myself because that video left an awful lot to the imagination.
ohh 4 the ppl that where not in beta before dec 04, before the drop down window in interlock that we have now.....
While without an explanation, the screenshots are interesting but not
much I can say about that until I know what all the button do.
2nd the Video:
Besides the obvious part of being faster, smoother and less starts and stops, there is a lot mentioned before that is not showcased here:
How is this different than what we have now?
I'm not seeing 0 sum combat... (at least I think I am not)
Where is the melee combat? (Free Fire Melee - Whatever you want to call it)
You turned off your chat UI so that we can not see the system messages that tell us more about what is going on behind the scenes in the game mechanics.
I think this video gives the wrong impression about what the CR is
really about. To me this just looks like a cleaned up UI release. Don't
get me wrong, I like the cleaner UI... but I ask my self.... where is
the meat?
To me, I just hope this just requires a better explaination of what is
really going on. Screenies and Video is not enough. A Voice over
explaining would have done nicely. But I know, no time.
Please ENJOY the holidays and lets worry about this later. :smileywink:

What the....
where are the rolls!?
Interlock without rolls....what a bizzarre universe...

Walrus howcome you werent using the new hotbar's in the video?? are they still in development?
Probably because they are a concept and haven't been implemented fully yet. Walrus did say that the concept probably wouldn't be released at the same time as the combat upgrade (although with it being delayed now, who knows
)I must say watching interlock without seing the interlock toolbar looked weird and will probably take the most getting used to. Looks good though, a lot more fluid and does seem to be pretty fast paced. Just hope we get to test it soon after you come back!

Concept for the hotbars looks good, although I'd like it to look a bit more solid arround the edges like the current one then the flimsy looking frame, but thats just me. :p
Nice long (cheeting but we appreciate it) looking glass. Have a good christmas!
Jeffers
Hmmm yes interesting.
I guess we just need to wait now to test it our selves.
It did look rather odd though not seeing what your next move is going to be. I know I like that, atleast I can tell what move is coming next and what I'm just about to pwn someone with..... lol
oh well all hail TheWalrus
your truly a gent giving us a sneak peek
Merry Christmas to you all and have a good break. We'll still be here ready to bug ya when you come back.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This will definitely be interesting. Like Walrus said, it is a work in progress, so we'll see what happens.

i love the IL without the big combat UI. so sweet
am just letting Walrus know what, at least, I am looking for. I'm not
complaining per se but I am offering my constructive critisism because
I am hungry for the knowledge. That is all. I am still looking forward
to the CR.
And yes, I like the new Hotbar. :smileyvery-happy:

I think the video was to show
case how the animations look and how the new hotbar will function. I
don't think it was ment to show the actual inner mechanics of how the
rolls are won etc. Maybe that's why there is no chatbox.
And it's a sneakpeak, don't think it was ment to be an in depth
thing. First we begged him into giving us vid then some complain
about it. But thats good constructive critisism i guess can
be good.
almost border flashing thing that is real unobvious. Just more
constructive criticism.

each other simultaneously. That's not what I am seeing here.. I am
seeing two people taking turns. Which is what we have today.
Maybe you can explain how this equals zero-sum because I may be missing the point or misunderstood the meaning. :smileyhappy:

According to Dev Journal 3:
Remove as much zero-sum combat as possible and create a standard round length. (“Zero sum” means there’s one winner and one loser each round; never two hits or two misses.)
I stand corrected. /formalbow :smileyhappy:

Baseball cap?!?!
OMFGWTFJOOHAX1!!!!1!!!!111
Seriously, that guy has caused me and TGS so much grief in and out of game.
Other than that, looks pretty sweet. Shame we don't get to see the updates to data miner

Accuracy. And the pistol Walrus is using downgrades it by 3. Maybe
weapons will actually make since now, with pistols being less accurate
than rifles, which currently have a -5 combat tactics downgrade.
the video
well it looks like the normal fighting
as for the ss it looks **bleep** cool
might sound sarcastic but its really the truth of many players, and pretty sure its on the developer's minds as well
HOW ABOUT FIXING SOME BUGS!?!?!?!?!
the game is eat up with the SAME bugs from way back in the beta, how about erradicating these bugs before possibly adding many more with a whole new combat system which most likely will add a whole hell of alot more bugs
I would so like to play the game for hours on end with out a crash to the desktop every 20 mins, or fight a mob for red frags and not have the entire area just go into evade
a new combat system might be a nice addition, but a bug free game would be 20,000 times better
This gives me some hope in the game, although I still think the power/speed stuff should have been left in the place it was and not take up hotbar room, this revision is looking interesting and I have many ideas to help the combat system improve.
