Eager, eager, eager to roll this update into my platform, Walrus. Smart
move getting a "pre-update" thread going too. Buzz is good! Thanks,
friend.

#10300001128 10/24/2005 17:44:30 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
The changes (and hopefully complete removal) of the Flaming Fists of Fury and the Hyper-Speed animation are enough for me. SMILEY
#10300001129 10/24/2005 17:47:27 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
and so it begins.... gj SOE update sounds good.

#10300001130 10/24/2005 17:53:51 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Sounds fantastic! Although I will miss my Sim haha :smileytongue:

#10300001131 10/24/2005 17:55:04 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Players whose Crew or Faction data doesn't load correctly now have their reputation determine their Organization. (Fixes exploit.)

Cool. They actually listened and used my hotfix suggestion.
#10300001132 10/24/2005 17:55:04 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion

WOOT, thx for the new cinematic and for changing the effects of:

Energized Attack, Precise Blow, and Hyper Speed

This shall be interesting though, lol:

Using the Assassin Mask Ability now aggros mobs and activates the user's pvp flag when it affects another player.

So. to recap?

If player is in an area where pvp is going on, puts on mask and a "flagged" player runs within the Mask's radius. The user that placed the mask on is now flagged?

interesting..........
#10300001133 10/24/2005 17:58:17 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Maybe a response to the complaints about the way Seraph handed out The
Assassin's mask at the end of DotD. That said, it's a very realistic
addition - the effect  of somebody imitating the Assassin in the
streets of MegaCity would not be unlike the reaction one would get for
walking through a predominately black neighborhood in Klan robes.
Clever!

#10300001134 10/24/2005 18:02:29 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Three cheers for the removal of "flaming fists"!  :smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy:

Exploit fixing is good....new criticals are better!

#10300001135 10/24/2005 18:03:11 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Finaly the rooted effect doesnt stop abilities in interlock best thing about the patch awsome simply awsome i was thinking it would just be the holloween stuff but all this to omg thank u guys for fixing this bugg no more sim and no more faction bug expliot really great gratz to SOE best patch in a long time.

Finally a patch that will remove that painful burning sensation...

#10300001137 10/24/2005 18:32:55 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Is the update up yet?

For some reason, I am not getting it.

O.o?

#10300001138 10/24/2005 18:36:01 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
I dont mean to burst your cinematic bubble, but its the 3.1 Story missions we are getting not a cinematic.

3.1 cinematic was released after the event ended.

Never mind. I am such a NOob.

But for those who are having the same problem...

Patch comes out Wednesday or Thursday this week!

*is excited*

But I will miss the Archeologist, I have a new reason to level now. -.-;

#10300001140 10/24/2005 18:47:13 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Yeah go level so you can say hi to the arch in downtown ^_^. finally they put him in a place where he should have been to start with ^_^. and i love all the little things ESPECIALLY being able to use abilites when rooted.
#10300001141 10/24/2005 18:52:51 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
For those wondering:

The Assassin's Mask is able to cause a "corruption pulse" effect when activated from the hotbar (the same way you'd activate the Awakening Jacket or Glasses). This special ability reportedly stuns everyone in a decently sized area... I'm not sure of its specific effects, but it used to be able to be activated without flagging the user. This is what has been changed.

very nice patch.... so.... we're all getting Assassin masks right... ??  =]

**keep dreaming cogno... keep dreaming**

Corruption Pulse eh?  nice...
#10300001143 10/24/2005 19:00:19 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion

Ya I'm hoping and praying and other non writable stuff that the 7th special mask is the Assassin's Mask. Maybe SOE heard all the complaints and decided to even the playing field.

Walrus has already stated that the masks will only be
usable for the duration of the Halloween event. Personally I find it
sad that they will only be usable during the event however...

Well jack-o-lantern + new criticals + new bar decor = promising time for the weekend.

#10300001147 10/24/2005 19:29:54 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Excuse my ignorance but where did Walrus say this?
#10300001148 10/24/2005 19:38:53 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
What Exactly does this mean? Which Exploit?

It fixes two things, one it allows people with the bug to type /pvp and actually be attackable, while also allowing them to now attack other players who are /pvp flagged. The exploit was that people with the bug could load up any patcher type tree and go around buffing and healling without being attacked.
#10300001149 10/24/2005 19:56:15 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Yes, some much needed fixes in this patch. Wonderful. And the animations REALLY needed to go.

Since we are on the animation topic...where's our cracking ground after a hyperjump!

I have been dying to see this animation since early beta...Please!

all in good time Esky, all in good time...this will suffice for now though. It's a hell of a patch!
#10300001151 10/24/2005 20:23:25 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion

Yes, Bonopi, but my argument is it has been a very long "in good time" already. Been at this game for almost 2 years now SMILEY

But yes, I agree, there was definitely some much needed stuff included
with this patch, and kudos to all involved for finally doing away with
this stuff.

Ok i am confused when is this patch coming out.  I read that it has been postponed but he said he was going to post it in accouncements and its not there.
#10300001154 10/24/2005 21:11:48 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
The post about the delay is actually about halfway down on Page 8 of
the "10/21/05 Other Side of the Looking Glass", but I'm sure there'll
be an announcement in the appropriate section. The patch is going to
deploy on Wednesday or Thursday, after some additional testing.

Esky raises an interesting
point - what distinction does the Community draw between what happened
at Monolith and what's coming from SOE? Correctly, Esky's pointed out
that he's been waiting since beta for this one specific fix, and to
that extent he's waited very patiently for it with no results. On the
other hand, that was Monolith - their people, their corporate
philosophy, and their infrastructure. With the exceptions of Walrus and
20-odd others, all three of those things have changed. It's a change
that's brought, on the surface, a committment to reclamate the game
into what we know it can be and to respond to the communities wishes.

How much of a blank slate does SOE deserve? Do we forget past
grievances and give them a chance on hot button issues? I'd have to say
that we need to give them considerable leeway in this area until proven
otherwise. Yes, Esky's waited two years for his issue - but he hasn't
been waiting for SOE to give it to him. It's a different game, and it's
going to look like it in one month's time. No right or wrong answer,
just some thoughts to mull.

Im assuming we can expect the usual 4am (pacific time) server shutdown?

#10300001158 10/24/2005 21:25:55 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion

I hope they removed the flaming fist animations. I mean that  is what we have been asking for, what we want and what this game needs. But from what I am reading it doesn't seem like they will be getting rid of the animation, just changing it. Archived image unavailable: 16x16_smiley-indifferent.html

But otherwise it seems like it will be a good patch. Looking forward to it! Archived image unavailable: 16x16_smiley-happy.html

#10300001159 10/24/2005 21:28:11 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Woreku if you read the notes they are removing the flaming fists and putting in new animations.

Quote from D1:

Flaming fists of fury are no longer so flaming or furious. (Energized Attacks and Precise Blows have new effects.)

The masks you find for Haloween don't grant any buffs - so I doubt that the "7th Mask" will do so. Overall I seriously doubt that they will just give away Assassin masks - unbuffed ones maybe

And - while I'm glad about new visual effects for Precise Blow and Energized Attacks - how about fixing the fact that U cannot stagger or daze your opponent when using them FIRST before making new animations?

Meh. Sucks bout not being able to use the masks after halloween but part from that flegging kick *CENSORED* patch!

Things im most happy about:

  • Criticals (yay!)

  • Back end of those fist animations (any1 know if the bug causing status being unable to be inflicted with the fists loaded has been fixed yet?)

  • Several bug and exploit fixes, several of which i've /bugged  :smileyhappy:

2 years?

Stress testing (when the majority of people got in) started a year ago (my 1 year anniversary has just passed. yay)

Prior to that there were a few by-application beta testers but I'm
pretty sure they only started that a few months before the stress test.

I may be wrong of course, but if what you're saying is true then you must've been testing this game around January 2004.

#10300001167 10/25/2005 02:37:04 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
Something tells me that the part where they mention the 3.1 missions
was a mis print.  There's not really any story going on this week
so why should there be critical missions?

i agree with the Energised Attacks and Precise Blows bug, i think, though i havnt thoroughly tested, that Calm Body also has the same bug. very annoying, even more so then the animation

Nope,
it's no misprint. Walrus confirmed it in another thread, by saying,
"...yes, there's more to this update than just Halloween." It's the
thread for the most recent Other Side of the Looking Glass.

The 3.1 part is either an error... since 3.1 is already there SMILEY , or they meant to type 3.2??

But great update, and that Sim bug is fixed too SMILEY

#10300001172 10/25/2005 03:34:10 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion
I do not think it is an error, there were never any 3.1 missions
anyway. 3.1 is already there, but the mission were for the death of the
assassin events, the new mission I believe will result in many choices being made, for the near future. You will find out in due time.

No 3.1 misisons? Am I the only one who got those commando missions or
something? lol. What did you think they were about? Came with the 3.1
Cin, and similar content? Hmm, you do the math!

Hopefully this will quieten down some of the moaners, for a while at
least. There's some very good stuff there, a lot of long term issues
resolved. Sim bug, Awful animations, anti-code shaper spam (No more
flashing disco parites for me SMILEY ).

Oh, and moving the archeologist to DT is going to be VERY much appreciated over on Vector SMILEY

#10300001175 10/25/2005 04:07:41 Re: Update 37 (Pre-update) Discussion

Kk, let the cloudwolfmeister clears things up for y'all

2.3 - commando missions

3.1 - coming next patch

The notes are NOT a misprint

And why are people blind? the notes say MISSIONS not cinematic, that all clear now? Good.
