Although many of you have given feedback elsewhere, let's hear what you have to say on this thread: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
#10300000617 10/02/2005 16:24:22 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
I'm still sulking about being frozen and silenced by an admin for Roleplaying 2 lines about the Masked, despite people around me spamming the hell out of area chat.

Otherwise it seems it was a return to the form of the last 2 or 3 Monolith events.  Perhaps the format of 'hunt, meeting, hunt, meeting, kill' is becoming stale - however I think that for the purposes of finishing off the Assassin, then thats the only format that could have been used.

I enjoyed the introduction of actually using event-specific critical missions for the Flit-gun, and as I sense that these will play more of a part in driving forward the events of the diminished LET, then I have high hopes for the future.

Obvious problems include lag, as well as the annoyance of continuous system messages from our Org reps.

Overall - i'm just glad we've had an event - there have been enough positives to inspire hope for future events, and enough negatives around which the LESIG will hopefully have somewhere solid to start their suggestions from.

2 out of 5 assassins killing on vector and the event is over = FRIGGING WRONG

no offence but everyone was looking forward in killing the assassin but as soon as we get there we find out its over and done with in 10 mins where as on the other servers it was going on for at least an hour  we did get ONE CONFIRMED kill  thats right ONE and aprox 5 mins later were called for a meeting and we get told its over.......whats the deal with that walrus

but i will give you kudos for this......bringing the event forward a couple of hours for the international players that in my books is a kick *CENSORED* move and is much appreciated

#10300000621 10/02/2005 16:34:30 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

i also found the event to be... suitable.

would have been nice if the assassin's name had been purple or something other than red so it would have been easier to target him in the sea of zion and mero names. lag was a downer, but that cant be avoided and i dont think many people minded it that much. certainly made it harder to find the assassin tho.

the jigsaw riddle was somewhat different from past events, but overall, as people have mentioned already, the event did seem to fit that same generic mold.

i also await the formation of the LESIG. we've been waiting for it for many months and it could potentially be a great asset to this game.
#10300000622 10/02/2005 16:37:15 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

in all honesty the last phase of the event was sweet, it was a lot of fun. . .And very challenging. . .Try keeping a team of 6 alive with someone nuking you like crazy! There was only one point where all 6 died and no one was left for a res, and we all had to recon. i think a lot of people feel that the prizes were a bit too exclusive, hence all the posts on the forums.  but having gotten the most dmg, and the CQ point for our team on the assassin kill in uriah, im sooo thankful that a teammate got the final hit. . .but everyone else's team effort goes more or less un-noticed. . .so i feel for my other teamates. im sure they may feel cheated that we all put up such a good effort. so i would like to give my thanks, and im sure mpminoc or anyone couldn't have done it w/o the rest of our team, and other members from ours, and the other orgs.

again i think server issues, as usual needs to be FIXED once and for all. . . . they have plagued live events from the beginning.

Walrus I have to say I am upset over the Assassin's Mask issue. To my knowledge only 2 were given out on Vector but I am not sure. I find it unfair that only the last person to land a blow gets a mask. Especially since someof the people that recieved a mask are not frequent players and will not make the most use of it. It is also rediculously overpowered. If we discard the issue of VD then anyone wearing one of these masks will have the absolute advantage over their opponent. My only hope is that they decay super fast so the field is equaled out soon. I hope in future events we can have more equality. There is also the issue of unbelievable lag. It made it rediculously hard to find the Assassin and hit him. I think for future events things most be going on at different times in many different places to minimize this lag. Thanks for listening. -Organo
#10300000624 10/02/2005 16:42:23 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

I thought it was very good for SOE's first event. Aside from the crashes and lag it was very nice. Kinda had the servers on edge. IMO a lot better than Mon's first event. But that might be because I was a lowly lvl 7 SMILEY. But I hope that SOE can improve on future events. And I look foward to your next one which should be on the way soon!

I had sooo much fun!! I am very happy to see that Live characters are still showing up and having meetings in the clubs just like there used to be! I did not expect us all to get those flit guns either! That was a very cool surprise! ^_^ And chasing the Assassin through the subway was a blast!! The big final fight I am sure was great but of course everyone was crashing and having problems SMILEY But i did get to shoot him with flit gun a few times and that was a lot of fun hehe =D I loved it!

#10300000629 10/02/2005 16:53:54 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
the lag was off the hook, hopefully SOE sees this as a brick wall and needs to be dealt with before they move on.

not
giving the speech to those who's servers crashed during the meeting
(everybody) wasn't fun cause there was no closure to the event cause of
it.

No puzzles like every other event. The fragments wasn't a
normal clue/slueth puzzle...it was just a jigsaw puzzle which got
boring after the first day. Which there was the secret puzzles like
before...I thought that the secret hardline hunt was going to be a
puzzle but it ended up not being anything unfortunately.

overall
I liked the event despite its complete shortcomings because it was
actually something to do other than this "nothing to do" beta we've
been playing, but there were alot of things that weren't up to par
because of the lack of LET ingame.

 Thats the biggest
disappointment, cause if "scaling back" LET this much is what they
meant then there's no point to play other than to basically watch the
storyline since there's no interaction with the characters anymore. I
don't call responding to the first ones to a meeting interation.
#10300000630 10/02/2005 16:58:12 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thrhttp://mxoboards.station.sony.com/matrix/JSpellIFrameead

well... i have to say that this event was an improvement compared to the others in the past. The missions, that where essential to the event were a nice addition. I would like to say that the lag both graphical and server side, was a little ridiculous; also, I wish i had known it was going to end so early. If i had known i would have logged on earlier, i missed the whole thing. But ever since I started to participate in events i have been hit by the lag problem so severely that i can't even play. So was it what i expect from a live event?, not really. I always have some hope that maybe these lag issues will be fixed, but it seems that the only way u can have fun in this game, is to have a better CPU than the min. sys. req. Explained in the games manual and in other places. I don't know... i guess in the end you could say this was another disappointment for me.

Another thing I'd like to mention is how suprised I was by the amount of time the LET appeared to be in-game - I was expecting them to have much less of a presence.
#10300000634 10/02/2005 17:06:42 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thrhttp://mxoboards.station.sony.com/matrix/JSpellIFrameead
the lag was my only bad thing to say toward the LE.  But its always like this, why they didnt upgrade the server hardware i will never know.

I was part of the group of like 12-15 ppl that brought down the Assassin on Syntax. I got lots of pics of the event. They will be posted on the 420 faction website.  Most fun  I have had playing to date, I've been here since launch.

Morpheus's killer has finally been brought to justice. May he now rest in piece.

Yeah no more Fly Virus.

My only complaint was the lag. Wait one more, I think everyone on Syntax crashed when the Assassin was killed and it was time to meet Nobie at Jacob's Ladder. So who the hell knows what happened after that. Then it was off to Club Hell to patry with Zion, Merv's, and Machines.

It was great to see everyone work for a common goal.

One question, A team of 12-15 ppl killed the Assassin where I was, but no reward. What's up with that, did anyone get anything? I hear only the last person to land the kill shot. That is just wrong, the group killed him, not 1 person. This was a team effort. So Walrus is there an answer to this question. I feel a little ripped off.

Anyway here are some pics.

The Good:
- The Assassin is finally dead. Morpheus has been avenged.
- Engaging event. There was something to do every day.
- Fun critical missions. Not really event-related, but fun nonetheless.
- My private meeting with Niobe was icing on the cake. SMILEY

The Bad:
- The leak. But I totally forgive ya for that. SMILEY
- The lag. The servers just can't handle a few hundred players all chasing after one person, or a few hundred people all in one club trying to listen to an LET character.
- The spam. I'd have hoped the LET would have a tool to cut out the chatter.
- The Assassin's Mask. I won't get into the buffs on it, but I think the method of obtaining it wasn't fair. Getting the last hit in was totally based on luck, especially considering all the downed hardlines and "Local Code Recompiling". Instead, it should have been based on who did the most damage - it takes a bit more strategy to stay alive when you're trying to chase down the Assassin.

The Ugly:
- The crashes. This, I can't really forgive. Especially for all of those who were on the Recursion server in the Manssen Park area. We had the Assassin down to just a few hundred HP, and he decided to hyper-jump. We chased after him right into a "Local Code Recompiling" barrier, then the whole area went down, booting us all from the server, even the Assassin himself. I moved on to the next location, but I assume that when he came back, he was at full health again.

All in all, I thought it was a really fun event. If the server stability problems can be resolved by the next live event, I think everyone will be pleased.
#10300000638 10/02/2005 17:13:23 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thrhttp://mxoboards.station.sony.com/matrix/JSpellIFrameead
Insane buffs handed out on an item rewarded to those that were simply "lucky" == Really freaking bad move. Especially when one such buff isn't supposed to be on anything that *isn't* footwear. That annoys me.

Perhaps a part of the event, perhaps not, but the Mobius code not being given when the loading area was full, despite inventory space being empty (and being told that's where it would be placed) == Very very unfair. Please rectify it.

Corrupted spawns, these didn't work correctly for a lot of players (myself being one of them) thus we were unable to even get a shot at getting the code fragments to enojy the puzzle / inital action aspect of the event to the fullest. == Get LESIG up and running, if I'm lucky to be a member (yes I applied all those moons ago) I have possible solution ideas for this to raise where people will actually listen.

Mettings causing server crashes == Exceptionally bad. Again, LESIG is needed, and soon.

Other than that, it was fun. I enjoyed fighting the Assassin at least. Sorry it's mainly negative feedback, but due to timezones and spawn trouble, I didn't see much, but what I did see (that didn't cause a crash) was enjoyable.

The Code Frag puzzle was fun, always a challenge

The fight with the Midian assassin on Vector was good, minimal lag except for some occasions.

It was great to see ol Flyboy again, and part of me will miss him.

On the other hand, the Assassin's Mask thing is awkward. A lot.

I like the idea of everyone who landed a hit getting a generic buffless Assassin's Mask and the last-shot people getting a cleaner looking Buffed one. That would have been better in my opinion.

Instead all i have to show for my battle is a Flit Gun. I love it and all but yeah. SMILEY

The event itself: B+

The reward system: D+

Walrus, this event was fun... but disappointing. Why start giving out
prizes now? Especially prizes with buffs. I would like some
compensation from the Nightfall event if prizes are going to the the
standard now. Calliente deserves something too since he was the only
one brave enough to help out Invalseco on Method. Midian lagged out 3
times on its own, Mannsen once... it was hell on earth.

#10300000649 10/02/2005 17:33:00 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
I didn't like how 4 people got such a crazy item just by pressing a button at the right time:smileywink:

I also didn't like how fast it ended when the assassin showed up.  I had to be somewhere so I left after waiting 3 hours, then when I come back 30 minutes later he's all gone:smileyindifferent:

Could have been better, a little anti-climatic, but then again I always thought the whole theme of the assassin and bugspray killing flies thing was a little dull.  Would you see something like that in the matrix movies?  But then again, there where no dev fields in the movies...:smileyvery-happy:
#10300000650 10/02/2005 17:33:44 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thrhttp://mxoboards.station.sony.com/matrix/JSpellIFrameead
in all fairness the team that did the most dmg should have gotten the mask(s), it was really based on luck for the last hit.
#10300000651 10/02/2005 17:35:14 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

Also, it wouldn't have mattered if we knew ahead of time the locations, radio stations always blab that stuff out to the public. ;D

#10300000653 10/02/2005 17:39:19 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

I had fun.  Especially yesterday when a bunch of us battled the Corrupted at Tabor Park West for a while, before chasing the Assassin from Tabor Park East to the Abandoned Subway.  I liked it when the Assassin ran into Uriah while we were chasing him.  There's a ton of places he could hide there.  I enjoyed running around the wharf, large metal cargo boxes everywhere, and not knowing if the Assassin was far away or right around the corner. ^-^

#10300000654 10/02/2005 17:39:39 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
The Good

Finnally having another Live event.

I found this event pretty fun, especially the end.

The Criticals, especially the Flit Gun one, how you had it tied directly in with the story line in real time.

The LET was actualy spelling correctly and using proper puncutation, unlike me.

I finnaly being able to see the Oracle.

New, free toys to play with. (Flit Gun, Mobius Code)

The Bad

There wasnt a real puzzle this time, like people have said it was basically a jigsaw puzzle.

Not enough LET interaction, they only really talked to first couple people there and then used thier macros and went invis.

The Ugly

How the end reward was given.

There is more stuff but Im slow at the moment. This is the first event
I really didnt have any lag,I only had one problem and that was at the
end with the public zion meeting with Niobe how the area crashed on
Vector, I really didnt have any lag even then I just got disconected.

Of course not.  The movies are only a small part of the Matrix universe.  Would you have seen Matriculated in the trilogy?  Or staking vampires anywhere except EtM and MxO? SMILEY
#10300000658 10/02/2005 17:51:03 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
I had fun with this but I do think there were parts that were not fair
to all.  Killing Corrupted's was something I had a problem
with.  I would be attacked and start to fight one at my own
level,  when all of a sudden someone 10 levels above me would hit
him once or twice and cause they made the kill, they got the
loot.  I would have liked to see a little less of this as it made
it harder for a lower level to participate.  (I'm level 40) and
unless it looked as if a lower level was really in trouble, I left them
alone.

I've read in several places on these boards about special prizes for
the one who was lucky enough to make the final shot.  I have not
seen an official announcement about it so don't know if it it fact or
fiction.  If it is indeed fact, then I think it is grossly unfair
to all those who co-operated to bring down the assassin.  But maybe
that's part of the next plot?  Divide and conquer.

#10300000659 10/02/2005 17:53:10 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

Having an event was great after so long.  SMILEY

The whole thing was fun, except the last and most important chases, I couldn't find the Assassin after he shot me and slowed me down SMILEY

Umm.. like Kr0n1k said, the LET factor was a little weak. Every meeting had their host leave in almost 5 minutes after. I wish that there would be a way to continue things in the Matrix, without having 3 week periods where nothing happens. Maybe if things weren't jumbled into one big event, the feeling of the Matrix would still exist. The last LET had some rare occassions when they popped into the world and attended tournements or just hung out at parties. That is something I would like to see more often.

Having a common goal, and having peace among organizations was fun, but it was wierd.. The possiblity to attack someone is there, but you're being encouraged not to SMILEY Even though I liked it, I hope it doesn't happen again :smileyvery-happy: Seeing as there are those who care about events and RP it out, some don't, and they got a little aggrevated when I reminded them of their org's truce :smileywink:

Overall, I enjoyed this event a lot. Even with Walrus' mishap, I still don't see how that could have made people made enough where they didnt even want to participate in the event. It was the only time where we would have a heads up on an event, even if it was by accident :smileytongue:

Grrr.. this is my second event I felt a little left out of towards the end SMILEY But I still had fun :smileyvery-happy:
#10300000661 10/02/2005 17:54:51 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
Heck id be happy with an unbuffed Assassin mask.

#10300000662 10/02/2005 17:55:00 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

The Good_

-live events are back

-finaly we get to see the back of the most annoying character (the assassin)

The Bad-

-with the drop you have now made it extreemly unbalanced for whoever has and dose not have said mask.(something I'm constantly being told they must not dowhen i lose abilities after coding them succesfully)

-what was the perpous of helping out? i as many others got nothing for helping some selfish/lucky person get a very nice mask. (fairness? I think not.)

-Lag. I can play to you the advert for this game on my matrix DVDs where I quote "we will have servers where 100+ people can run in to 1 building at 1 momentin time and never suffer any lag" /quote mode off why were we lied to?

The Ugly-

-costant contact spam. why did we need to be told over and over and so on that we needed special guns?

-why dose an event like this take so long? ok we got that we needed to kill coupts for their codes thats 1 day perhaps 2 while doing that you can do the criticals. the next day you find the assassin at decyphered areas and kill him. 2 days thats it all over plans for the nextone in place for 2 weekends away or perhaps more if there is more content.

I dont want to sound so I hate you I hate this I hate everything but please a bit more thought put in to the fact that we all get bored of repetative tasks.

thank you for putting a bit like this much () fun back in to the game. the most fun I had wads crashing all the parties after. lol

So that everyone who came in late can find out what happened and what to do.

News stations sometimes do this.  They'll record a broadcast, then replay it at certain points in the day in case anyone missed out.
#10300000664 10/02/2005 18:06:25 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
One thing I forgot to mention. BRING BACK FLASH TRAFFIC!

#10300000665 10/02/2005 18:07:35 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
I have many gripes about this event:

1. The times at which stuff happened. It seemed most of the interaction
and event stuff happened during the day EST. What's wrong with this is
many people have school and work during the day, so really most people
could have missed the entire event. There used to be a timezone
schedule where stuff happened during the night, like 2 PST to 8 PST
something might happen. This is 5 PM to 12 PM EST which is suitable for
more people then during the afternoon. Just today I worked from 3-9 PM
EST and missed everything that happened today.

2. Not much LET interaction as other live events. We had no
organizational meetings. The Machines didn't even have anyone to report
to. Basically has scripted messages repeat over and over in the system
chat, and had DN1 updates. You couldn't even know when LET was on
because they didn't show up on the Buddly List.

And, my biggest gripe with this event is not only how the "rewards" were given out, but the reward itself (Assassin's Mask):

3. First off, the leak on DN1 telling everyone where these 4 locations
are didn't help at all, but even if that didn't happen, word of mouth
and thinking minds would have all crowded around the Assassin anyway.
Now, the way to get this Mask was for the person to get the last hit.
How is this any way fair? All you have is 50 people spamming the Flit
Gun, there's no strategy or deserving way to receive the Mask. Not only
that, but did you see the buffs for this mask!?

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/1524/screenshot122ut.jpg

First off, the buffs on that mask is insane. Something like that shouldn't even be in the game, because the 5 or so people who were lucky enough to land the finishing blow (which is totally random, you have 100 people around him spamming the Flit Gun), now have this uber item that people who don't have it (99% of the rest of the community) will be at a severe disadvantage in combat. The mask should be unbuffed and just for collector's purposes.
#10300000666 10/02/2005 18:07:45 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
Good:

It was a Live Event, and was nice to get going again.

I was starting to miss real inter-organization political B.S.

Bad:

The leak

Ugly:

Local code recompiles.  Look, we spent at least 6 months stress
testing Algorithm, where did that info go to?  The current server
setup does not have enoguh power to handle the 50%+ of the entire
population in one small area, including when they pvp w/ hacker effects.

Comments/Ideas for improvement:

1) For something this large, please reload the area that will be used
prior to everyone coming in.  Maybe this way people won't lag it
so bad to trigger the reload.

2) Have server managers/GMs disable the auto zone reload and make it tough it out.

3) if the server decides to put up the barrier and reload, have the
Live Events Team at LEAST try again after it's done, as many times as
it takes.  If it wasn't for the leak, or the post on the next day,
we'd be lost.

4) Get Q/A up and going AGAIN publicly.  With the move to SoE and
the combining 3 server sets into 1, things need to be stress
tested.  Half of us right now do not mind splitting the servers
back up if it means we can do Live Events without the server kicking us
off to reload the area.  I don't think we had a REAL Live Event
since the server merging.

The servers in their current state cannot handle this again. They
cannot handle the max online compacity in a concentrated spot.
Put the notion to get more servers per world, and/or more processor
power on the server side.

#10300000667 10/02/2005 18:08:24 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

The Good:

    - Continuation of storyline!

    - Live Events aren't entirely dead!

    - Criticals were entertaining

The Bad:

    - "The fate of the Matrix is in your hands!"  Yet there's the outcome written out for us.

    - Minimal amount of interaction

    - Basis of rewarding players

    - Misinformation on method of distributing the Mobius Code lead to missing out on it

    - Annoying use of system messages

    - Absence of critical system messages during the final battles

    - No more Assassin :/

The Ugly:

    - Server stability

Main Suggestions:

1)Allow us to add and monitor when LE characters enter and exit the Matrix.

         One
thing about live events that has always jeopardized participation and
interaction with the Live Events Team has been that there are no
concrete time periods in which the live events take place.
Fortunately, prior to the transition, we had a buddy list that acted as
our informant on when something was about to happen.  Redpills
could jack into the Matrix and mosey about doing whatever he or she
wants, then the moment their system message read (for example)
"Assassin is in the Matrix," they would know that something was about
to happen (or at least that there was a chance for some
interaction).  Shortly after the transition we found out that we
couldn't add LET characters onto our buddy lists because of their Admin
status, but now a few were available for adding.  The problem is
that none of these characters ever showed up as Online.
We had absolutely no idea of when a character of interest was in the
Matrix.  I don't expect interaction to be handed to us, and I'm
sure whoever is controlling these LE characters doesn't want to be
flooded with tells, but this was one thing that really helped redpills
when it came to live events and is one thing that needs to be returned
to us.

2)Utilize system messages in a more appropriate and useful manner.

Please do not use system message loops for
relaying messages throughout the day.  Hearing Agent
Gray tell me about the incident with Ookami every 15 minutes for the
entire day was less than amusing.  System messages should be used
to detail what is going on during the real interaction parts of the
events, not to repeat something that could have easily been relayed
through a Message of the Day.Organizational meeting
system messages are great, they work and serve their purpose, but where
were the system announcements during the repeated crashes that many
redpills encountered?  If an Assassin character crashed or was
killed, there should've been an announcement reporting just that.
Instead we were left wondering what happened to the Assassin we were
just chasing and exactly how many were still around.  Please
utilize the system messages during events but not for spamming
information!

3)Dedication from the LET to allow interaction and conversation with redpills.

Everything was basically scripted leaving very few, if any, opportunities for interaction. The
Assassin isn't much of a talker, and I'm sure the Oracle and Seraph had
more important things to attend to, but there were virtually no times
when redpill presence was even acknowledged.  We need dedication
from the new LET to allow for extended conversations and opportunities
otherwise you venture even further from the premise of allowing
redpills to affect the storyline (even though that was thrown out the
window with the slip up at the beginning of the event).  Also on
that note, please have some sort of build up to events.  I
understand the amount of interaction is being scaled back, but it's
really not a Live Event without interaction, instead it's just a movie.

I wouldn't mind an unbuffed mask for being the target of the
Assassin's Corrupting Bile and Crush attacks after repeatedly spraying
him with my Flit Gun.  SMILEY

#10300000668 10/02/2005 18:08:56 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
The Good:

After not picking up the game after the beta ended, I finnally got this
the other day, I've since played every day, joined a great crew, and
just got my first live event!

The Code Frag thing was a cool premise, however alot of things that
could have made it better (hidden HL's,etc) were just dropped instead
of being delt with.

Saturday, I was the first person the Recursion server to run into the
Assassin. I had been in the Wharfs, a group had formed around the area,
and a large spawn of corrupted had attacked when I noticed him. I
beleive my comment was "Oh sh*t." Shortly there after I was gunned down
by him. So to see him and be his first victem in a day was pretty fun
heh.

The Bad:

Felt to me like something that should have taken one day, two at most was purposly just beaten to death and drug out forever.

Loot system/priority, Im a low level character (level 14), so I was not
able to touch the assassin even if I had wanted to. So automatically
there is no way for me to land the "big prize", on top of that the "big
prize" was given to someone by COMPLETE random chance. Add to that the
fact that I couldnt even be present for the finish of this event
because of timing out/crashing. Overall I get an anti-climatic ending
to an event that was shaping up rather nicley, and I have nothing to
show for it.

The fly virus is still around.

General Lagginess, nuff said.

The Ugly:

The fact that there were MORE problems after the event was over
then during it. After the event was over, there  were server
crashes, insane lag, and general moments of *unpleasant person* from the player
base (hey that counts in my opinion of an event, you guys just cant
help it SMILEY ).

The fact that as I am a newer player, I was basically left out of this.
I was able to participate in a fashion the first couple days, searching
for code frags, tossing ideas with my crew mates about how it all
peiced togetether. However, come "game day" when the stakes were high,
(and now apparently the prizes were to) what was a level 14 character
to do? Nothing it seems like. Left high and dry because of my low
level.

The fact that after about at least an hour of "Your account is already
in use"/"Cannot connect to server" errors, I logged in, only to find
out that my Crew/Faction information has now errored, and I cannot use
my crew chat /etc.

what event?

first off it was ruined

second it was not friendly with any time zone other than PST

i didnt get to particpate in anything other than killing corrupts and doing some crit missions

the frags iight u put them together and did nothing, no reward

then iight i get my lil gun and the assassin happens to be on early monday morning for me

i run around and do my 10 damage and he dies and i die

so i then go to the lag fest that needs to be worked on (other mmos dont have this problem like wow)

and i hear niobe say everyone that hit him will get something

but idont see anything

so all the running around this whole weekend was usless espically how the sky looks like my little cousin painted a picture

i wish i could get the graphics designed that pulled that crummy work off

so overall i think it was a horrible event and main things to improve is LAG and time zone friendly

#10300000672 10/02/2005 18:24:02 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

Good

- We get to kill the Assassin

- Decent critical missions

Bad

- Timing of available critical missions. 'm the type that would finish the critical missions whenever I get the chance, but making us wait half an hour per mission is not productive at all. Not everyone can play the game 24-7. On the bad side, certain people are not able to do said mission if they were helping the mission leader.

Example: Stack helps Lithius with "Free Your Mind" and finishes the mission. Stack is mission leader, but can't call for said mission at all. No amount of /ccrs would get resolved because SOE is busy with other things or is willingly ignoring the reports.

- Lag: The server merge caused more harm than good at all. It was hard enough to go to an organization meeting in a server like Linenoise and being surrounded by fifty morons in the same area. But since the merge happened, everyone's crash galore. I suggest seperating the servers again since three small servers on one just made things FUBARed IMHO. Hell, even fighting the Assassin was bad because of the crashes and we're stuck in our desktop for five minutes because of the "Your character is already online."

- Crashes: See my lag comment. The LET speeches made everyone in the audience crash because there were fifty people in the same room as Niobe/Gray/Flood, and the lag was freaking unbearable.

- Very little LET interaction: It was mostly hindered due to the fact that we can't add people like say "Niobe, Ghost, Gray, Flood, and Assassin" into our friends list because of their admin status. Pre-SOE days, we would see "Ghost is in The Matrix" and we would have some type of indication that something was going to happen due to some people being lazy to update the DN1 website. Sometimes, we also enjoyed talking with said LET characters saying "Hi so and so. How are things going?"

Examples:

Stack had a brief conversation with Morpheus asking if he had spare time. Morpheus told him, "Sorry Stack, I'm busy, but I'll try to get back to you whenever I can."

I had a brief conversation with Al3xandra giving my condolences for Neurophyte's death and told her to tell the rest of the crew that I said "hi."

Ugly:

- Lag and crashes

- Bigger number of morons at Organization meetings: LET needs a tool to cut out people asking moronic comments such as "Will you marry me Niobe." This is more intolerable than the Choices & Consequences event. In an average organization meeting pre-merge, it was thirty morons per organization meeting, but with the merge, it's quadrupled to 120 morons.

Of course.  It's a virus.  From what I've seen the Corrupted have stopped spawning, and any that are still around spawned before the Assassin died.  These last Corrupted and people who still have the virus are the only things preventing it from going away.

SMILEY the thing is, Im not blaming that on the GMs. Im just commenting
that it was annoying today to log in and immediattly catch the virus
still. This is after almost two hours of "You Cannot Log In" errors,
and time outs.

The Good:

- Morpheus is Avenged!

- The Assassin is Gone!

The Bad:

- The ending. I have been chasing the Assassin since a week before the
The Hunt for Morpheus Event. So that is about 5 to 6 months. I have
chased from Sobra to Richland and to anywhere else he would go,
fighting him no matter what. Now the time has come to finally kill him,
and all I get is a piece of cake? I am sorry, but I think we should get
more for chasing him for over 5 months.

- The mask thing should have been evenly distributed. Final blows isn't good enough.

The Ugly:

- Server Stability

#10300000679 10/02/2005 18:39:19 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

The Good

The event finally brought closure to the Assassin and the death of Morpheus.  I was personally able to chase around the Assassin, and thanks to the nature of the Flit gun, I was actually able to inflict damage to him.  That was truely fun.  However...

The Bad

The timing of the event's closure was unexpectedly early in the day.  The only time I ever actually interacted during the "Live" portion of the event was about 4 minutes the evening before, when the Assassin appeared in a random part of the Matrix.  After my quick death and forced return to the loading area, I never found him again.  I then spent hours looking for a character that probably wasn't even in the game anymore.  Having a better idea of when an event is going to happen would have saved me the personal annoyance of rushing home this evening just to discover the event was already over.  Times for the events need to be less of a "Play all day, and hope you catch a glimpse of the LET."  You don't go to a movie theater at 0800 in the morning and stand out there all day for the 5 minutes they open the door (and each day, the time they open the door is completely random).  The film industry would collapse.  Well... that's what is happening here.

The Ugly

The reward masks.  So much complaining about who got them and the rather nice buffs the masks have.  This is rediculous.  They are unique items, they should be in this game... It's a frelling RPG!  Unique items are what it is all about.  Now... people are complaining how it was decided who got the mask... you know what?  Ever been to a baseball game?  Imagine you're at the World Series.  You're out in left field... second level.  End of the game, bases loaded... the guy at bat nails a homer...  it lands in the glove of the guy right below you.  Do you **bleep** at the players on the field that you didn't get a ball, or that the guy's ball is now worth a fortune?  Do you demand they take away that guy's ball and replace it with an ordinary one?  Do you demand that they give everyone in the stands a ball?  No.  The guys who killed the Assassin were in the right place at the exact right time.  Pure luck.  That's the entire point.  We're not all winners... we're not all special.  That's what makes a game fun and exhilirating when you win.  You managed to beat the odds.  This is an MMO... not everyone can beat the odds... since the other players are the odds.  Else, everyone would be a level 50 with the same exact stats and loadouts... with the same buffs, and no one would be better, it's the Politically Correct Olympics.  At the end, everyone gets a Silver Medal, since no one is better than the other.

What fun would that be?

The one thing the mask shows us is that there need to be more unique items.  Not more of the same unique items... but actual items that there are 10 or less of in all of the Matrix.  We need lore... mystery... and most of all... these items should not have minimum levels on them.

Even a 10-year old can catch that game winning homer.  Are you going to tell him he can't have it until he's 45?
#10300000680 10/02/2005 18:45:49 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
I said it before, I'll say it again, and if I get into the LESIG, I'll say it there too.

These events are what people play for.  A LOT of people only log
in, simply for the event, thus causing a period of abnormal stress on
the servers.  If the servers are not prepared to handle said
stress, the events will fail.

If you notice, the primary portion of the people complaining are on
Recursion.  I was really excited about the merger, and I thought
it was going to be a really great idea, however the problem remains
that we have a situation where the servers are forced into a position
that they cannot handle.

So, there are 3 possible outcomes that I see happening.

1) SOE works on decreasing the amount of calculations the servers are
required to do, and in turn creates a more streamlined system.
This hopefully would require the system to use less resources, and
subsequently make crashing minimal.  This probably will take a
long time, and as such in the time being, the following 2 methods may
have to be adopted.

2) Live Events that reach a broad area.  While Method didn't have
the # of people that Recursion has, we DID have quite a few.
During the first Corrupted event, when we had to fight the giant fly
monsters, I did not crash once.  Reason being?  They used
every single area in the game, to distribute the lag properly, so that
the entire system wasn't straining in a single aspect, and the load
could be distributed properly.  With Downtown, International,
Westview, and Richland all being utilized, you didn't run into the
bottleneck we had in Richland/Westview, while DT/International were
working 100%.

3) Server split.  This is a fairly drastic thing.  However it
is becoming apparent that Recursion might need a server split, and we
might need to create an opt in split to move people voluntarily to a
new server.  In fact, it might even be a good idea to create a new
server, and allow all servers to migrate there.  I'm not sure what
the situation on the other servers is, but I do know recursion has a
VERY healthy population, and could afford the hit in the number of
redpills.

Those are a few ideas, I'm sure there are more, but my hands hurt, and I'm tired of typing SMILEY

#10300000681 10/02/2005 18:49:12 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
I have to complain about how early the event was. I know you were
trying to accomodate the European players, but I just got back from
eating breakfast, checked the forums, saw "It's already over," and
thought, "They must be joking." They weren't. I jacked in and found out
that the Assassin was already dead.

Even if the event did start early in the day, I at least expected it to
last for a couple hours. I certainly didn't expect it to come and go
while I was reading Calvin & Hobbes with my french toast and eggs.
Granted, I did sleep in a little as I usually do on weekends, so it was
still partially my fault, but honestly... just one more hour or so and
I would've seen it, and it's not like it would kill the people in
Europe to stay up until midnight.

In general, though, I just feel like it was a little anticlimactic.
What would be really cool is if you guys included the death of the
Assassin as the next cinematic and included actual players in there,
all spraying him with insecticide. That would really help give people a
sense that we're interacting with the storyline, even if it's already
scripted out for us.

#10300000682 10/02/2005 18:52:35 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

Well walrus this is my first posting and to be honest i did not enjoy this event at all. My reasons for not enjoying the event are chasing the Assassin with about 100 other people lagging and him killing you soo easly then you couldnt  jack right back in because all the hardlines he was at were down.

My biggest problem with the event is that soe took away let characters being added to the buddylist please walrus if their is one thing i really want with events it would be that .

I have to admit i like that they killed off the Assassin only because Live Events wont be about just chasing him and trying to kill him.I remember when i first played games how Niobe and Morpheus sent me messages to go to their private meetings and how fun it was and made it feel like a movie. Im others can back me up on the let adding them to buddylist thing but the event is my opinion and i do feel that soe did a good job as it being its first event and all.

#10300000686 10/02/2005 19:18:35 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

The Good:

Excellent Event!  I loved it all, and chasing the assassin around was totally fun!  Addition of Mobius Code was great too.  It's kinda like you rewarded us after the event.  Lets hope more events utilise it more.  Missions were great, and i wasn't expecting the assassin to try to take out Merv's legions then the whole matrix.  It was nice seeing the orgs support each other.

The Bad:

A few crashes to desktop on syntax, and the lack of character interaction.  Lets have a general outline of the event, but lets kill the pre-scripted stuff.  Let the LET talk to us in mass meetings and answer our questions.  This is where the game gets fun.  Also Saturday, we should ahve had more time to fight the assassin.  It was fun chasing him even if we couldn't kill him, and it was over in 30 minutes.  Let's make it last an hour or two, having him show up in various intervals.

The Ugly:

Need more LET interaction, start hireing people for it.  There should ahve been an option to allow people to defend the assassin. not all people wanted to see him die.

#10300000687 10/02/2005 19:23:23 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

I for one thought this event was well planned out and I had a blast participating in it.

Luckily I was never "meatwaded" SMILEY I quess I'll just keep my fingers crossed next time someone is running around the megacity meat wading people, lol. Although I did find the server crashes to be quite annoying especially because when the Oracle was in Debir Court, we missed part of her speech because of a crash. Somewhat disapointing although someone did post the chat on DN1 forums here which clued me in on what I had missed.

Obviously meeting with the Oracle for the first time since this game has been out was amazing. I was not really expecting it. Unfortunatly I was unable to be on for Saturday's events.

Sunday was the best event day I have had by far. During the "Hunt for Morpheus" event I was just a inky-dinky level 17... so most of the event npc's I had to fight were all purple, I didn't get to participate much. With all the events with the Assassin until now have been pretty much similar. Assassin comes to Mara, we chase the Assassin, the Assassin kills us, we get ressed, and repeat the last two steps.... It was so satisfying finally bringin his reign to an end. Although he was "weaker" than his normal self, he still put of a good fight which made the event better in the end.

The highlight for me by far, was the private meeting with Niobe my faction had. Not just the fact that we got to meet with a Live event character. It just makes me feel better in a sense that the LET actually take part with the community. Not just jack in as the character, hit all the macros for a speech, and jack out....

My only disapointment with the event were the crashes that occured. Even though there was a little mis-hap with DN1 day summaries, I still have an amazing time participating in this event. Hopefully SOE will access the way this event ran. Keep things that went well, and attempt to fix things that could be improved for better events down the road. Over all, gret job SOE, I was really impressed.

#10300000688 10/02/2005 19:36:44 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
Im very happy to see SOE took the time to plan out and continue live events. I would've liked to know when to log in a day or 2 ahead of time. The live events shouldn't just be for people that are able to refresh DN1 until a new phase of the event happens. LET should be able to be added to the buddy list too.
#10300000689 10/02/2005 19:44:24 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread
(( Well I missed about 90% of the event due to nothing more than bad timing so I really cant form much of an opinion on it. All I really got to see was Niobe for the 5 mins she was on before the server crashed. I did get to do the criticals though but they really made no sense to me in relates to the storyline. Maybe I just missed something though I dunno *shrug*. The only thing I'm really bummed about was that I never got to see Seraph. He's probably my fav character and  I hope someday I'll actually get to meet him))  :smileysad:

View from vector... as we waited, hearing about how the fight was gonna last an hour or more, how much fun it was... as we waited... all day...

I can garauntee the LE was made with the non-hostile servers in mind, I think the team forgot about Vector being hostile bacause there were simple things that could have been tweeked to make the event more playable.  the assassin was red, along with 21943751093 other people all around me... there was no "c" targeting... I had to find him and the sea of red, I never thought my where's waldo skills would be needed in MxO.  The HLs turned red bacuase so many ppl were using them, so if you reconstructed, you had to do it like 2 districts away and run.  I reconstructed twice and when i got back the second time he was dead...

Here are some tid bits I didn't like:

ok so we had 3 assassins instead of 5

the secret HL didn't exist, which would have been the coolest part.

the drops may have been rightfully rare, but were wrongfully distributed.

the whole thing seemed rushed,(on vector that is) like: ok here's the assassin... he's not gonna run around as much as the other servers, he'll stand here so you all can kill him faster... ok you killed one... come have a meeting, it's over.

our meeting was laggy as hell and even though reds were suppose to be unable to get in, they did and dev fielded everything. (another vector only thing im sure)

agent pace said like one line then dissapeared. which I completely missed btw due to lag and spam.

No closure, i didn't know if it was really over so soon or what... there was something about cake, but at that point I was fed up with everything and logged off.

I mean... I, we all, stood around for 4 hours waiting then it was over before anyone know it had begun.

Then when I log on later, the bloody corrupted are still around degrading my gear with their effing fly virus.

if they were minor parts of the assassin, why didn't they cease to exist when he died?

-_- not happy

#10300000691 10/02/2005 20:01:04 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

I generally liked this event, nicely written npc lines both in critical missions and from the LET, nice critical mission over all, very nice integration of missions and event with the flit gun one, nice new "toys" (mobius code and the uber-cool flit gun), I loved the puzzle (I love everything that makes you work in a group, in a game that is mostly soloable, that's why I loved the introduction of Pandora's Box too).

I was ok with the early timing too since I am from Europe, but still I'd like for you to state again (like you did earlier this year) what the "hot hours" are set for the events, so that I prepare to go online just when things are expected to happen (a window of three hours for the most important climatic event, and six hours for the other days, would be appreciated).

I didn't like how fast the meeting and the final killings were, I couldn't attend any of them. That's even because of the server crashes (I remember the special MxO videoclips in the Matrix Revolutions dvd, they raved a lot about this fantastic system that will permit us to play smoothly even when there are hundreds of us going in one direction, when will this be released please?).

The method by which the final rewards were given out (that's a first time, "prizes" for the previous events were less worthy but given to everybody who participated) is not good, but it was expected (even Paul Chadwick mentioned in many interviews that the system was designed so that the one giving the final shot was rewarded). Still I think you should change your mind... Just keep the system you have for any other killing: the one (or the team) that deals the most damage takes the prize, maybe leave a secondary prize for the one giving the final blow, and keep the old system of giving a minor reward (or "badge", if you will) to anyone who participates.

And please, bring back FLASH TRAFFIC! And an event calendar! I'm waiting for news about my LESIG application in my mailbox now...

#10300000692 10/02/2005 20:13:39 Re: Death of the Destroyer: Feedback Thread

I started thinking about this and what you said...
in future events I hope that they balance the reward system and realize if they are going to do either way how can they make it fair to everyone who participates.

Then I started thinking about how if they change the next one to whoever does the most damage gets the prize but they leave the enemy's VD low and its a hacker race to kill them. boy, think about the complaining then...geez!

this event though, since everyone was able to do the same amount of damage, I still don't understand why they had the last person to hit since if everyone could do their own damage then hackers would no doubtedly take off the most hp....it was the easiest way to measure who was the most skilled at tracking/hunting and executing damage against the enemy.

please take this into more consideration next time.

One
