#36300562071 06/02/2009 06:31:53 Your LESIG questions

Bonjour!

There are a lot of misconceptions about the different aspects of LESIG and we were never able to respond to a lot of them because of the secrecy of LESIG.  Rarebit did his best at trying to clear some things up but I know there are probably still a lot of questions out there.  So, ask away.  I will start off by discussing what our regular routine was.  Regular, as if!

DWR: Date with Rarebit.  This is what we would call our live events.  There was a calendar and we would pick the date in the month that we wanted to have our DWR.  Rarebit had an outline of the entire chapter and would give specific critical live events he wanted to have happen and which week they would.  They would consist of about a sentence and it was up to us to come up with the filler.  LESIG would decide which LE Chars to use, where to have everything set up, what to have spawned, etc.  Rarebit would look at our idea for the event usually the day of the event  and decide whether or not it made sense, fulfilled what it was suppose to, and was realistic of what the LE chars would do.  A lot of great ideas got shot down, unfortunately, because they didn’t quite fall into what rarebit wanted for that event and then there wasn’t a lot of time to come up with another plan and things would get rushed.  Most groups started to have a backup plan just in case.  It would get frustrating waiting for rarebit to get to your dwr plan, especially if you knew there was something questionable in there!  Oh well, it sure made life interesting!

Then at the specified time, Rarebit would log on and start to org lock buildings, set up props, pac zones, go afk to deal with issues with the next day's patch, etc.  Then he would start talking in crew chat and usually ask something like, "hmmm, what are we doing here today? What am I suppose to say?"  hehe. So we would refresh his memory and we would start our roller coaster ride.  Behind the scenes was usually chaos.  Team and Crew chat were usually going nuts trying to solve unforeseen issues that would come up or try to fix a screw up by one of us.  The crew chat was hilarious though.  People would say and do the craziest things and we would die at the things rarebit would say.  After the event, he would stay on and we would chat for sometimes an hour or more while he was flying around taking screenshots.  Good times!

Not every day was a critical event though.  For those days, the liaisons would have to plan the entire event themselves with nothing to go on from rarebit.  So, you had some freedom, but not much and it all had to be approved.  Some liaisons came up with side stories during the rest of the month and used their DWR for a special event and had rarebit come in with a level 70 or something.  For example, as Cypherites, we captured a zion crew and held off zion/epn on one DWR and then transported the hostages to agents, which got ambushed by zion/epn on another.  Liaisons of opposing organizations worked together a lot.  Big rp pvp battles were usually the result of a few liaisons working together to hash out a good storyline that would end up tying into each other.

Anyway, a lot happens behind the closed doors of LESIG.  Now you can ask the all the questions you've been curious to know.

Au revoir!

Not sure what these new breed of LESIG got, but back in 1.0 Rare refused to give us any spawn tools or any tools that would help our live events, he had to spawn them himself. If you LESIG 2.0-ers got spawn tools then you don't know your bleeding born!

We got them about 2 years after LESIG 2.0's inception. So we have hazy memories of being born, at least.

Ya, spawn tools are sorta new (november 08 was it?) and they had to be requested in a thread with their intended purpose.

we also got this in Jan 09:

"The 9.2 update included a new AI spawn setting that lets me give an org alignment to NPCs I spawn during events.

At tonight's Merv event on Vector, for instance, I spawned Merv-aligned Elite Commandos to fight the Machines, and Machine-aligned Machine Captains to fight the Mervs. NPCs spawned with an org alignment will attack any players except those in the org they're aligned with. They don't attack NPCs." -Rarebit

#36300562093 06/02/2009 07:31:15 Re:Your LESIG questions

Thats just the bloody cheek, we had to do the Shane Black event through careful co-ordination of jackouts and uniformed items, no spawns there. Its good that they eventually turned up though.

#36300562100 06/02/2009 07:54:28 Re:Your LESIG questions

Spawn tools were definitely the best resource we had.  We were blowing through them like hotcakes during the Libertas Verus arc.  Pity I didn't hold on to some. XD

Why was Rarebit late to events?

He wasn't late usually, he was setting up event related things like NPC spawns and decorations and the like... it just took a while for him to do that.

Ahh.  I remember one Cypherite event where he played Cryptos, and we were to meet him at one of Cryptos's box.  He had this great smoke effect.  Any idea on hiw he did that?

It was awesome.  Of course the people there made jokes connecting about Cryptos being Jamaican and weed.  SMILEY

Put a dev animation on it, smokecloud or cloudsmoke if I remember correctly. Was funny, it was Rej's idea to do that and Rare had forgot how to do it so one of the other LESIG members had to track it down for him.

#36300562305 06/02/2009 15:04:27 Re:Your LESIG questions

Yeah. Rarebit had access to admin control tools that allowed him to not only spawn NPCs, but place objects (as people saw at Halloween) and cue SFX, such as fog. He could spawn other SFX but I've just this minute forgotten what they all were.

#36300562306 06/02/2009 15:05:17 Re:Your LESIG questions

Ok, so I have to ask this.  Did Rarebit or anyone else ever talked about what Veil would sound like?  I mean has the idea of her being in a Cinematic with voice ever popped up?  I want to know what she might've sounded like! lol

#36300562310 06/02/2009 15:07:02 Re:Your LESIG questions

Rarebit used to mention that some Voice Acting was done for Veil and that she sounded like an Angela Lansbury/nice old lady kind of voice, which gives the 'Dearie' thing some meaning. Rare didn't like that, though, and never used any of the sound files.

I can't remember what he did say he envisioned her like, but it was colder, and icier; like she was always amused but apathetic. Pentothal tells me she may also have had a Southern Accent.

#36300562312 06/02/2009 15:08:58 Re:Your LESIG questions

What about Ookami?  I'd imagine her has having a low sounding voice with purrs.

Thats in regards to Veil :p

#36300562315 06/02/2009 15:09:51 Re:Your LESIG questions

He never really mentioned Ookami. I think what you saw in the LE posts was what you got; rabid, angry and impatient.

She had her moments you know. Like when she was joyfully running through killing people and laughing as blood came off her claws!

Seriously though, I liked her character and I think Blood fit in well working under her. She did show a different side when the wire frames came in - a kind of uneasy side.

Personally? I can't remember the exact quote but it went something like "Ohh my *I forget* Yas" right in the middle of an event.

I'm sure it'll come back to me eventually.

#36300562373 06/02/2009 16:43:24 Re:Your LESIG questions

It'd be hard for me to pin a certain moment. You were probably there for all of them, Chloe; you followed me around everywhere. SMILEY

Maybe, before I was known, however, bounding around Megacity for the first time, just after my reputation had been set, and I wasn't yet a Liaison until my opening event.

I remember people were talking to me and asking who I was, my name was all over the list, and I was new to people, and fascinating. I remember enjoying seeding the intrigue and not giving them enough answers, but always leaving them wanting more. It was a very fun time. My only regret is I was unexpectedly called out of town and let Itarrot and Haigen down for my opening event. I needed to be there but couldn't be. Sorry again guys. =(

Other than that, any time I got to do an event, or just hang around with both Liaison partners--be that Itarrot and Haigen, or Esime and Haigen, at the same time, was always a joy. The Cypherites seemed to enjoy having the three of us around at once, and we always got some good conversations going and, more often than not, there were some enemy Liaisons the three of us could pick on and have some fun with. We all brough different personalities to the table and I think they complimented one another well.

Of course, hanging with the hardcore Cypherites and getting some good RP going was always fun. Syntax RP was different to how I envisioned RP, but it was a very welcome addition. The Liaisons became more than distant facets of Events on Syntax, they were almost integrated into whatever social sphere they had, and we enjoyed the highs and the lows, and the highjinks of Syntax's day to day activity. They could RP anything, which made it very easy to go along with it. I thank you for that.

I don't think I have any bad memories, but those are the ones I rank the highest.

Oh, and as for an amusing story. I remember Fuscienne and I were helping out with a player event; a bluepill extraction. Everything was going well until the bluepill died. I was upset, and so was Fuscienne, IC of course. And then someone Rezzes him, and he comes back to life like nothing happened.

Fuscienne and I made very quick, very hasty excuses and got out of there. We were mortified that it had happened whilst we were involved, but I couldn't stop laughing about it for a good while afterwards.

Speaking of which...was Rarebit amused by PN's "Rarebit Lottery?" That was the time-waster we'd all play while waiting for him to show up where we'd all put 1 million info into the pot and pick a time that we thought he'd show up. Closest without going over would get the jackpot.

I was there for that event, the people the bluepill was following ran it right into a mob of npc's and they killed it. I remember everyone screaming "GET REZ" and next thing we know the bluepill was rezed and people rolled with it, at that point many of us bailed.

I think while it was important for us to have fun in the role as a Liaison, it was more important to make sure it was the players who had fun and enjoyed moments they could call 'their favourite'. I think all the time I spent jacked in as Trep was enjoyable and something I will always look back on fondly because of the discussion, debating and so on that was had with opposing orgs.

Having said that, there was that time where myself and Tranta had a slagging match infront of someone who seemed relatively new to the game or server. She sent us both thank you emails after it and I really enjoyed that because we had made their night so entertaining.

Getting away from you...

I mean uh...

I have a few favorite moments I suppose. One being when Rarebit first got me on the ship, I was with one or two more EPN in Westview and he was like "Ok, try to look cool" and I was like "huh?" and then he spawned Cypherites on us -_- and then I was kind of confused and he said "Fight! Im trying to take screenshots!" then it was too late and he didnt get any. Favorite moments with the players would have to be right after the Oracle died, and when we met with the Oracle for the last time. There was some really good RPs  and ideas floating around at that time. I also really enjoyed all of the different personalities on Vector, it was quite a change from my old haunt. They were much... nicer for the most part, besides the ganking of course *gives a long, cold hard stare at Systematica* But anyway, I hope the players got a kick out of me (or on me) and enjoyed it as much as I did, I tried my best but college and RL got in the way towards my time unfortunately. I'll have lots of screenies to post soon, thanks again for all the good times Vector

Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the time with Acavaria and Xensei, we had a rough start but it was fun SMILEY And also, Mne was very nice and helpful the few days I was able to interact with her, I wish she could of stuck around longer.

And the other Liaisons on Vector were cool too I suppose :p

#36300562400 06/02/2009 17:17:16 Re:Your LESIG questions

The questions that first come to my mind are pretty much all directed at Vogt, seeing as how he is the liaison I had the good furtune of working with the most.  I'll stick with the slightly more general ones for now though (and maybe pester Harpalos with PMs about the rest depending on what he posts in the other thread... >.>SMILEY.

There were two events I recall in which the Syntax Machinists "failed"  The first was dealing with the Technician going into Datamine to harvest nodes for data he needed.  Now, doing anything in Datamine is always a risk especially when you're tapping with a high level tap and Agents are likely to spawn, which is what happened.  Seeing as how the whole thing was something of a crapshoot, were we expected to succeed at that event?

The Second "failed" event was with Imelda Kroller in Vogt's last operation leading us.  Did we just miss something entirely as a group on that one, or was it pre-determined Kroller would wander into the street, run into Wright, and get killed?  I can't help but feel there was more to that event that we never did get around to doing.

.. and since Tranta mentioned it, could you elaborate a little more on the differences in RPing on the different servers?  I've spent the vast majority of my time on Syntax and, while I've always assumed there were differences, I'm curious about the LESIGs thoughts about that topic as well as the topics of working for, perhaps, completely different orgs and in completely different settings (Hostile/Non-Hostile) than with your mains?

I was actually thinking the same thing.  Not really cold and icy at all, but someone you could almost feel you could trust if you didn't know her.

#36300562406 06/02/2009 17:23:11 Re:Your LESIG questions

Ok, so this is a big one, Reinsertion.  Was Rarebit going to leave it as "Reinsertion was a lie" or was there going to be more to it?

#36300562407 06/02/2009 17:28:42 Re:Your LESIG questions

Well in regards to your last question Shin, I would view the servers as being different parts of a country. Each of them have different dialects and customs. I didnt do too much on Recursion as a LESIG, but there was a difference between doing things on Syntax and Vector. Vector RP in my opinion, is more short and to the point. This is because you are in constant danger, unless you are in a neutral zone. I don't think we could have done the LV/Renegade Zionist-EPN story ( I was Aleha :p ) on vector for instance, as it was mostly based on us doing long, elaborate 'evil' speeches... with action at critical points. Me making a long and elaborate speech on Vector would not work, I would get shot and killed before I could  finish *which some might of been thankful for :p *  Also, due to the PvP on Vector, the events there are more action oriented and less talky, with some exceptions of course. But I know the players on Vector wanted direct conflict with each other, so those were the kind of events I chose from Rarebit's outlines or tried to think up on my own when it was my turn to do so.

Wow, that's a bit harder for me to answer since there have been some pretty good moments while working as Blood. I would have to say the parties were a blast though. Then there were those moments when we had to wait for Rare to set up while waiting in position and trying to stall. Then there were the great crew chat coversations with Rare. I'm not sure if I got any screens but I'll take a look. Then there was the various conversations over the years that I've had fun with. Yes, Blood did like playing around with EPN because he found it fun with their reactions to things.

I enjoyed putting that Minority Game together though. It took some time to figure out how to make it work in-game but I ended working it out and threw it together. I was planning to make a "company" called Duplicity Inc. to do mini-games with Blood as the leader but it ended up getting scrapped as we went ahead with the Blood Requiem instead. I was going to do the smuggler game too... I may end up doing it before the servers go down!

Keep the questions going! I'm all ready to slap answers to them!

@Shinryu: I do believe it was completely different RPing a Machine over on Recursion compared to the Merv on Syntax. Blood was all over the place and ready to make a profit while keeping in mind he wants to keep the money rolling in and would, at times, play both sides. While SW over on Recursion, he was a somewhat upfront and honorable guy. He would let loose only during parties and took things a lot more serious than Blood.

@MetaLogic: I don't think he had any other plans but to have it a lie.

So... dating Harkee was not one of your favorite moments? I don't think she will be amused.

lol, the two met up at a party! Though, it ended with them fighting one another so it was a kind of sad ending to the love bird's fun.

And one more for a bit of fun - the best line used on Blood for a second kiss:

Oh, and as for an amusing story. I remember Fuscienne and I were helping out with a player event; a bluepill extraction. Everything was going well until the bluepill died. I was upset, and so was Fuscienne, IC of course. And then someone Rezzes him, and he comes back to life like nothing happened.

Fuscienne and I made very quick, very hasty excuses and got out of there. We were mortified that it had happened whilst we were involved, but I couldn't stop laughing about it for a good while afterwards.

I was there for that event, the people the bluepill was following ran it right into a mob of npc's and they killed it. I remember everyone screaming "GET REZ" and next thing we know the bluepill was rezed and people rolled with it, at that point many of us bailed.

That reminds me of another bluepill blooper I was part of once; myself and another Sig'er were filling in as bluepill scientists for a Merv event on Syntax. We were on team with the Merv liaisons and I forget who else. Anyway, the other bluepill scientist and I were waiting for the players to finish fighting mobs and come back to us. Someone on our team killed a spawn that was close enough for us to get XP - so players rush in to see these two bluepills level up suddenly. There was this awkward silence and then people started filling the area chat with 'gratz!'.

I remember playing a Blue Pill in an underground part of Westview on Syntax. Rarebit told me it was safe to come down, but he forgot to kill the NPCs and I almost died before the event even began... and then I ended up getting killed by NPCs in a dark alley as players ran right by my corpse but didnt see me >>

Lmao, I remember that event. It was such a great time. We just decided to roll with it even though he was level 2. Then there are those times when people accidentally get a hardline and level up.

It's really a tough call for me because I enjoyed all of my stint.  My most memorable moment would have to be the first time Fuscienne and I crossed paths in Mara.  PvP seemed to stop in its tracks while our catfight carried on.  I think at one point there was a circle of people around us while we interlocked.

Other than that, I always enjoyed the banter from various enemy players like Shinspeudo or xWarAngelx.

Punting Haigen, when Trep had just unlocked the ability, was also an immensly enjoyable experience.

The beating she took afterwards, not so.

The Black Code always had a secret crush on Haigen

The planning stage with Vogt and other liaisons was always my favorite thing to do. There's nothing better then getting an idea and expanding on it to execution.

I also enjoyed the times where anything happened 'off script', like when an event character was unexpectadly rooted, even though the story would depend on them getting a speedy getaway.
