I just got that e-mail from SOE...

*Please log in to your Station Account to update your billing address. If a valid credit card is active on your account, refunds will be applied to such credit card. If your account is paid via SOE Game Card or other retail game time card, we will send a check in the refund amount to your current billing address.

If, as of June 1, 2009, you are not already a subscriber to Station Access, EverQuest, EverQuest II or Star Wars Galaxies or have a paid membership to Free Realms, this offer will provide you with access to the current retail versions of EverQuest® Seeds of Destruction™, EverQuest® II The Shadow Odyssey, Star Wars Galaxies™: Complete Online Adventures, and full membership status to Free Realms (greater access than the current trial versions of such games and non-membership status to Free Realms ) through July 31, 2009.

Looks like I won't make it afterall... my sub expires June 11th.

So my guess for end of world event is: Spawn all holiday objects, turn on winter weather (with possible code for snow), degrade all monuments like in "death of the destroyer", optionally bring dead characters back, spawn monsters and agents, end of beta eye sky. and then Virrago runs around changing people into stuff before the final meatwad and shutdown.

The Furious Angels will be showing in force for the last day in.

No thanks, SOE, I'm not interested in any of your other games. Everquest sucks, and I've heard SWG does too. I can't seem to figure out how a crappy game like EQ has lasted as long as it has. What's it going on now...like 13 years?

Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, I get this email in my box that says you're terminating my favorite game of all time. I'm severely disappointed...all the things I've worked for, my info, my items, my collectibles, emails, and all the things I love...worthless and gone.

We haven't had an event in months. Once Rarebit left that was pretty much it. I was still holding out the hope that maybe things would get better, maybe you'd hire another dev. My hope has been dissolved.

My sadness has turned to anger. But how can I expect a corporation to fund a game that is losing players...due to the company's failure to continue the funding end of it - namely a new Dev.

This is not just the death of my beloved game, oh no...it's the death of the Matrix as we know it.

Dear players, we need to exchange contact information sometime. Or get an Xfire account and look me up. I've met many good people, have seen many things, and have done it all. But now someone is pulling Wire's jack and she won't survive this time, no EJP for her this time.

All I know: I'll be taking tons of screenies from here on out. More than probably in all the four years I've played this game.

Wire will live on...and she does. As a warrior and about 9 other characters on Guild Wars. Come find me. Just look for The Wire.

It's been a good four years... I'm sad to see it end, and I'm a bit frazzled thinking about all the stuff I haven't done ingame, which I'll be scrabbling to do in the next two months. I'm considering an endgame for my three characters, but I'm not sure how to execute it, since some of the folks I wanted involved have long since moved on to other games.

For years I thought this day could come, and now it has..

Can't describe how sad it is to see 4 years going down the drain.

I have dreamed a dream, and now that dream has gone from me.

You know it's bad when MxO will be the first MMO to be shut down by SOE, beating out EverQuest (released in March 1999, the time of the first Matrix film to hit theaters, how appropriate?) and PlanetSide (I seriously have a hard time believing this game has more subscribers then even MxO).

This is certainly disappointing, but inevitable all the same. We all knew it was coming. To finally see it in writing just makes that rising thought hit home a littler harder. I will say I feel sorry for anyone who thinks they have wasted their time now that they will no longer be able to play. Yeah, you will lose all of your characters, Info, items, collectibles, e-mails, etc. but does all of that e-junk really trump all the great times and friendships you have made the past 4 years? I really hope it doesn't or else the 4 years you were jacked in must have been a lonely place.

I'm currently subscribed but I haven't been playing due to me hooked on Sacred 2 right now, but I will undoubtedly be active for the final days and the last event. I think the sadness will take hold of me much more once the final few days come and we all get meatwadded for the final time, just like end of beta...

I don't have much to add. Sad Asna is sad to see the game die like this. It's such a beautiful game, the city, the mood, the character models and clothes .. and we'll never see anything like it again. But I was privileged to be a part of it, to have made such great friends here, and I'll have many years of good strong memories to take with me. So much laughter, and some tears too. It's been over three years for me, and I wouldn't have given back any of it.

I wish this were not the first message I had to post upon re-entering broadcast range...

As others have said, even though many of us saw this coming for some time now, it is still a knife in the gut to finally see the words in print, so to speak.  So many memories, so many friends, so many good times.  In some ways it is better to see things end like this rather than to see the game we all love fade slowly into the black dying a prolonged and undeserved death, but it would have still been better to not have to see it end at all.

The Watchmen and I will be here until the end, and we all be around always for some friendships even when started virtually will last forever.  We have one anniversary here yet to celebrate, and lilely many more in whatever construct we call home after we can no longer jack in to the City we have called home for the past 4 years.

Well I knew one day this day would come, it's really sad. I met many great people here and throughly enjoyed the game as a whole. I'll be sure to get the most out of the game while I can.

I think it's unfair for people to be holding a grudge against SOE.  They might have said they would never shut down a game, but I don't think they expected to find themselves in the economic climate we're currently in.  And to be so thoughtless about it. I doubt it was an easy decision. I think we should be offering thanks not condemn them.

MxO is not just a game. It is the largest Matrix fan community, a community with nice people from worldwide, a part of my life, and the only one MMO I have been played.
The only one consolation is the final event will be held when I am available.

I just saw this email in my inbox and had to log in possibly for the last time to say farewell. This was my first MMO and still is the only one I've ever played. It is a shame to see it go but it couldn't go on like this without change. I will hang around till the end, hope the final event will see it through with a bang. If it's going to be on the same scale as beta then I know i'm in for a treat.

As much as I hate you all, I actually came to like some of you. Thank you to the Vixens and to Somnolence, as well as some of the old members of Tetra for making this run in MxO so meaningful to me. As for those in my old factions that are long gone, We all miss you. That means you True Humanity. Thank you MxO for all the fun times. As we all depart onto our next respective games, let's all remember the kick@ss times we've had. Oorah.
