I'm posting this response while AFK in the middle of Downtown.

Best update ever in my opinion.

#36300544917 02/18/2009 07:55:36 Re:Update 66 Discussion - February 2009

The Omega Headgear is definitely worth the update but the other items that Omega (not to be confused with the player) barters seem to fall a little flat.  It seems like they were afterthoughts and while certainly easy to obtain, not something to jump up and down about.  Unless, in this case, you throw yourself off the side of the building to end it all.

I'm hoping that the "surprise" has yet to be discovered as there's nothing surprising about Omega.

"Are we finished yet?"

I hope not because I prefer not to end in a whimper.

That's probably because 2 kinds of shiny layers aren't compatible. Either the fancy tie wouldn't work.

While I was expecting a bit more than just two shirts, they are still kinda neat nonetheless. Thank Rarebit for atleast doing something. I haven't gotten the RSI Caps I wanted yet, but that's mostly what I'm looking for in this update.

I actually like this update, for what its worth; although I think the 10% RSI Capture drop rates for level 83 and up NPC's (ie Wright, Kunoichis) are horribly unrealistic.   They should scale at least 0.5% to 1% up per level above 60 (max drop rate being 50% at level 100).

Cream Area K not my bag; Headgear's not my bag either, but some might like them.

Most incoherent, nonsensical quote tree in the history of the Date One.

Thus, rendering it the epicest.

Epicest: Most epic, out epiccing all other epic things. (First recorded usage in 1876 with the unabbridge version of Huckle Berry and The Right Honorable Fin.)

Anyswuck, I forgiddle about the RSI Captures in all the actionizing drama. I can easilpie say this isn't the worstest Update, but I can't easily reddybear which one was the worstest...

mm.. yes, at least Men got neat shirts, ones that can actually be worn with any number of outfits, whereas women...

Ok, I'm not gonna b**ch, this is minor compared with losing Rare overall, and I'm sure this was kind of a quick "i've decided to leave" slap something together deal anyway. My REAL dissapointment is that the Patcher's trade is for the headgear only, not the hats and 'danas. And to think I had started farming to get a dana, so I could trade it for a black one, seeing as women still don't have any high level black danas . Since hes already done the color work, maybe thats something someone could add down the line. Not gonna hold my breath.

I guess.. yeah.. sad. From my perspective, I've have rather had nothing than a weak last gasp.

Ummm... no. It really doesn't. How exactly do you figure that?

so, yesterday, I was really dissapointed by the pantsless Gi's, but that aside...

Look. You suddenly decide its time to quit. You give a months notice. There are many things to do to rapidly phase yourself out of a role you have been filling exclusively for years.

You have ONE, excatly ONE, more update to try and do, like, EVERYTHING, which is impossible. You have to choose what is truly the most important final work on a project.

Rare tried to fix the Vista Issues. Don't know how well he succeeded, but he tried. That is actualy important to the game, far more important than individual players desire for some AWESOMENESS parting content. I would speculate that the Vista fixs WERE NOT originally slated to go through this update, but thats what Rare chose to get done, and it took up his time over the last month. That they had to delay the update so it could be tested and tweaked (and this, possibly, required Rare to stay past his intended departure) should be evidence enough that this update took some work.

So, no, I'm sorry, this is not an "Epic Fail". It just didn't meet people's bloated expectations. What it probably was is rare being professional, trying to make his last contribution a technical fix, rather than some ego padding "OMG heres some AWESOME gewgaw".

Yeah, I hate pantsless Gi's. But thank you Rare, sincerely, Thank you.

#36300545645 02/19/2009 17:37:13 Re:Update 66 Discussion - February 2009

Rarebit probably didn't stick around to see the patch reaction cause even if it included the meaning to life, the location of Adam and Eve, CR 3.Awesome, over 9000 new districts and all our hopes and dreams people would still be crying a river of tears because it didn't include free assassins masks for everyone.

Get over it, seriously.

#36300545674 02/19/2009 20:56:22 Re:Update 66 Discussion - February 2009

Eh.  There's no point really trying to reason with you people.  You take it as whining, I take your reactions as baseless brown-nosing.  We won't get anywhere, so we'll just have to agree to disagree.  While I would've loved for the patch to have tools that would allow the players some measure of story control, I could care less about the items, really.  It's the manner in how this patch was presented, and the self-righteous, childish "I told you so!" attitude of some members of this community.

So, to make you happy:  Drats and bollocks, I didn't get my Assassin's Mask.  *stomps foot*

Best of luck to each of you, and enjoy your ties.  See you in the simulation.

#36300545678 02/19/2009 21:26:41 Re:Update 66 Discussion - February 2009

Baseless brown nosing? I haven't really commented on the patch at all (Apart from loving the removal of agent spawns).

As far as patches go this one is ok, it included the White Area K and Black Headgear people asked for (People were spooging when they heard about those), it had fixes for some Vista issues (And a fix for some is better than no fix at all), added a pile of new RSI captures (Which seem to please a lot of people who want to PvP in style) and included a "few little goodies" in the form of the Gi and Shirt/Tie combo with the cool code on them.

People just built this patch up an immense amount cause it was Rarebits last patch, he said so in his appearance at the goodbye party, don't expect too much. But people expected the world and were let down.

If this patch was just a normal patch then people would be rating it much more highly, but apparently Rarebit has to pull the second coming of Jesus out of his arse cause this is his last patch.

So I am going to say this very clearly to everyone badmouthing Rarebit.

Grow the hell up, the disappointment is ENTIRELY your fault. Think you can do a better job? Bloody well prove it, apply to fill the vacancy that Rarebits resignation has just created. Send your resume in to SOE and fill Rarebits position and do a better job than he did. If not, do us all a massive favour and S T F U.

Ok, now that 66 is out most of us have had a decent enough time to enjoy/cry/not be fussed about it, I'd like to hear what Walrus has to say about the future of the game and the intentions toward it. I don't believe i'm asking for him to tell us anything that he can't tell us, as I don't see how telling us if there are plans for a new Dev to be assigned to MxO or if an intern or something will be doing the odd event or story with one or two of the LE characters, is that much of a problem. We know that the anniversary event is still in the pipeline..

Even if nothing more is going to happen, no Dev, no story, no updates (other than to fix anything they break on a Thursday restart) I think we should be told about it, more for courtesy then as a right. (Not sure if the EULA gives us a right to know what SOE are planning to do with the game).

I held my breath at first after the "New Approach" dropped.  I didn't say much of anything about the changes.  I figured I'd give it time to work itself out.  Then Rare quit.  Honestly?  I figure the story's done, so I'm moving forward to focus on things within my faction and anyone else who wants to come along for the ride.

If real story comes along, fine, but this time I'm not holding my breath.

#36300545837 02/20/2009 14:34:17 Re:Update 66 Discussion - February 2009

Sorry for the late reply. I've been out sick for a few days and haven't had a chance to catch up.

Rarebit did spend the time after he decided to move on tackling as many issues as he could that would let players continue their own pieces of the Matrix storyline. He also left detailed notes so other team members, like Virrago, could continue to appear in game and do some special things for the community. Giving a full toolset for events to players was never in the cards, as the internal structure of our toolset was never designed to work outside a secure network--not to mention being rather not-user-friendly. Recent issues with players being able to use admin-like powers without permission show what a pandora's box we would open putting those tools out, even with rigorous testing. Given that restriction, Rarebit did what he could to make creative storytelling possible for all players--like the RSI capture devices.

We were also able to kill two issues that have been nagging the community for some time--rendering issues under Vista and a plethora of "Ad Space for Rent" signs in the world. One required some creative texture manipulation and the other a lot of nagging. All-in-all, I'd say Rarebit got the better end of that deal. SMILEY Both came together in time for Update 66.

As for "Omega"--the name reflects the end of Rarebit's stint with MxO. The game keeps running as always--just without the 6-week updates. Celebration of year 4 is about one month away and we'll be running events just as we did last year. We'll have more details in the coming weeks.

Cheers,

Walrus

I think it was a rogue two while others had restraint, but I agree with not letting them ingame.

Yeah... so Rarebit isn't getting a replacment dev/writer, and we won't be getting regular updates anymore?

Sorry for the late reply. I've been out sick for a few days and haven't had a chance to catch up.

Celebration of year 4 is about one month away and we'll be running events just as we did last year.

No worries, it's easy to forget that staff can get ill sometimes. I'm happy that we're still having the 4th year celebration but if we are just getting the seasonal stuff (Winter/Halloween/Anniversary) with or without a few more items of clothing it's going to be really easy for MxO to stagnate.

Nothing against the storytellers out there but they can only do so much with whats given to them. The capture tools do help and they are appreciated but I don't think it's going to be enough to fill the gap in between seasonal events.

I think it was a rogue two while others had restraint, but I agree with not letting them ingame.

Wait.....wut?

There was players who had admin-like powers? When did this happen?

We've been getting commie censored anytime we said anything about it on the boards.

Pretty much people would show up in Mara or Datamine and spam the crap out of terminator bits or drop code bombs or force flag people, et cetera.

Ah ok, thanks. Guess thats all we can talk about it if the mod is going to crack down on it, even though Walrus mentioned it to begin with.

Well, I hope we'll be hearing more about the future shortly, because if "things are as normal, just without any updates" is all there is to it then, well.. yeah...

Here's hoping the anniversary is better.. or at least a tad different than the last one? *shrugs*

What ever gets done there are those happy, those unhappy & the meh crowd. I mentioned I missed the Agents, others are glad to see them gone. I joined way late in the game than most here (was on another planet & just got back) so I have less to compare past to present.

I did have great fun the other night with the other "Danielle Wright Players" getting Danielle to drop her RSI which we wouldn't have been doing w/o Updt 66. I also seems that there have been more ppl around lately. (see if that's still true after another 3 weeks I guess).

Would like to see (read be told) where this game will be heading, macht nichts if its not in the EULA - we are the salary payers.
