US teen kills father over fast-food row

November 20, 2008, 12:56 pm

Authorities in Texas say a teenage boy fatally shot his father during an argument over a wrong fast-food order, then killed himself.

Galveston County sheriff's officials say the violence occurred on Sunday at the family home southeast of Houston.

Sixteen-year-old Robert Lee Mueller Jr returned home with the wrong food order for his father, 59-year-old Robert Lee Mueller.

Both died late Tuesday after nearly two days in a Houston hospital. The father was shot once in the head. The boy shot himself after police arrived.

I lol'd.

Not ONLY in America... but I get the point and yeah, this is pretty ignorant. There had to have been something intensely dysfunctional going on way before this though. This is just the end to a long means, I think.

In fairness, the fast food would probably have killed them anyway...

Something tells me there were probably more serious issues between the two of them, and what may seem like something hardly worth arguing over, to them may have escalated not just from fast food, but from personal grudgeries.

Kind of like the straw that broke the camel's back.

Exactly! Things like this that happen aren't as random as people think.

In the UK it would have probably been a knife in the neck or something. While Guns are becoming a lot more common (converted BB guns mostly) Knife crime has rocketed in recent years. Of course knifing yourself to avoid the repercussions isn't as quick as shooting yourself (unless you miss, obviously).

That's how I saw it. Probably the dad yelled at him and went to beat him or something for bringing home the wrong food and things just went out of control.

I put money on this type of reason behind it.  My guess the dad was prolly high or drunk and was violent, The kid brought home wrong order and the dad went to take it out on him but the kid said not this time. Then saw what he did and snapped the rest of the way and killed himself.  Sadly this stuff goes on everywhere.
