The article doesn't say "new" for a reason.

Listening to players is tricky. It was players who first gave me the idea of putting pants on them, and I documented what I was doing in my usual places on the forum--in this case I think it was series of images in the Dev Screenshots thread in Image Retrieval. The outcry from a few people who didn't like the change only came a good deal later, once the change hit Live.

I still think that combat clothing that forces you to go pantsless isn't a great idea. That's why the items with actual combat buffs no longer do that. On the other hand, we have a tradition of giving out non-combat clothing over the holidays for fun, and bathrobes are just fine for that; since it turned out that some people liked the old style, it seemed worthwhile to bring it back in this more appropriate form. I think most people will also find the eight bathrobe color selections to be an improvement over the gi colors (thanks to extensive internet...research >_>). And don't worry; if women's bathrobes (not male--check that mockup image's filename...) aren't your thing, there will still be plenty of other holiday items this year.

Most people don't read the forums like a bible so when you "document" things in your little section only a small percentage will notice it, hence why people only complained when it turned up in game. Thats the first time they had heard of it.

Rarebit, I think one of the main reasons for the outcry coming later was down to those people not frequenting your Dev screenshots thread. Of course thats really down to them...

It kinda reminds me of HitchHikers guide and the bypass plans available at the local planning office or something...

Wha? You mean you forum regulars don't go telling all your fellow operatives the strange and outrageous things you see on the forum? ;)

#36300522473 11/21/2008 14:36:05 Re:Image Retrieval - November 19, 2008

I didn't think it was required. Everyone has access to the thread, people simply make a concious choice to visit or not.

Now is the chance to add white half-jayne duster.  *highcollar also

Or a lab coat.

Or white avero boots *male*

Nope, I finished up the winter stuff last week. =p

Well, yes, and no. Most of those leader of factions or those that like to just "show-and-tell" do, but those that aren't in any faction/crew and don't like to associate with anyone (*cough*) most likely don't, unfortunately.

Yeah well I seriously hope us men get something as good as the formal gloves/shoes.

Well I must admit, after doing a quick search, all of the comments on the Gi were confined to the Dev screenshot thread for a good few weeks, whereas usually someone posts something in General discussion about a subject if it's important enough

Then I suggest starting on the Craint patch v.01

I LOL'ed. That is so accurate. The next time someone asks me why I think Vinia is awesome, I'm going to point to this post.

And yes, Rarebit did listen to the players. No, Rarebit is not being *lazy* by responding to player reaction and reissuing something we SAID we wanted back.

So I say huzzah and thank you!

Yea totaly.

"But the plans were on display ..."

"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them."

"That's the display department."

"With a flashlight."

"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."

"So had the stairs."

Makes sense to me!

Oh!  I have a big request.  For some reason the Red and Green Holiday Hats are singletons.  Can we at least de-singletonize them?  To bring them in line with the other holiday hats (gold, black, silver).  Two permanent inventory slots is pretty hard to spare for two holiday hats.

a) they aren't hard to get, just gather some snowballs or whatever it is

b) they're singletons because they're made for snowball fights; you "lose" the fight when your hat breaks--it would be too easy to come back or fake out of a loss if you could carry multiples

Yeah, that's what I thought.  I guess it'd be too tricky to make them non-Singletons when the Winter Event is over?

I don't mind having them in my inventory, just would rather stick them in an email between events SMILEY

Did you make some white knee boots, Rare?  Cuz I been asking for those for a long time.

Thanks!

Oh, thats why!  Heh I never did that snowball fight thingy.  Just thought they were for cosmetic purposes only SMILEY

Also, and I could be wrong, but the gi w/pants pictures were never given as a definite change.  People had been commenting on how.. inappropriate the gis were particularly in combat and the pants included images were proposed as what the alternate look would look like.  It was never given as a "this is what's going to happen unless you speak up and speak up loudly right now."

Hooray!! This makes me happy ^_^ I like the colors, and it'll be awesome if those glasses will be a new item as wellSMILEYD

The reason I didn't make a big deal about the pantsed gi until after it went live is cause I was under the impression that both would be available and that it wasn't just going to put pants on all of the existing models.

*crosses fingers for white boots XD*

#36300522588 11/21/2008 22:59:19 Re:Image Retrieval - November 19, 2008

Well, everyone I talked to about the pants being added to the Gi's was that we figured the Gis we had already would remain pantless and the new ones that you get from looting, collectors, etc. would have the pantlegs, sorta like how the buffs on the widow's dress and puglist gloves changed for the new ones but not for the ones you got before the nerf.

Thats why I (and I think many others) didn't say anything when the screenshots of the Gi's with pantlegs were showing up.  Then when I got in game after the patch and saw that the Gi's in my inventory had pant legs, I was like - &@#$

No, no, I definitely remeber a thread in which Gerik posted something to the likes of, "The women gi's look skanky," and Rarebit said something to the like of, "You're probably going to like what's in the new patch." Usually when a dev says, "It will probably happen," it does.

But you're still right. All in all, it's already over with. No point in complaining about it now, just a slight bit aggravated.

Er, when did I do that?

#36300522892 11/23/2008 11:54:12 Re:Image Retrieval - November 19, 2008

Actually, if your talking about the Dev screenshot thread and the start of the change, I believe it was Roukan who said he didn't find them appealing and Rarebit agreed stating 'It is kind of silly looking to be running around a dojo with no pants on'. At the moment I can't find any thread with reference to Gerik stating that they looked skanky.

However, I do remember Rare immediatly made a signature and possibly an Avatar from the mock up. Noone seemed to comment on it outside the Dev screenshot thread though.

Still Ballak's right, modified Gi's are here to stay and anyone who wants the other kind (Othinn said he wanted a version to remain as a nod to Jue in FFotO) can get them during the winter holiday.
