Hear is my question relating to what I can and cannot do
lets say I am working for the machines and I am on the server vector hostile, would I be able to go to the area where the mission for extracting red pills was held and attack the zion soldiers and zion NPC's there? Would I be able to attack Niobe when she apears during the Niobe mission? Answers with details would be greatly appreciated, thx!

EDIT: If an Agent NPC is near a Niobe NPC will they attack eachother?

Nope. Can only attack NPCs that are set hostile to players in missions, can't attack them just because you're in another org.

thats too bad, it would be too much fun to try and attack other organizations and stop threre missions

Well as you're on Vector, once you go over level 16 you'll be flagged for PvP. So you'll be able to be attacked.

You should be able to attack players, but not NPC's who aren't flagged for combat.

and that would be most NPCs like Niobe right? SMILEY

Not nessarily, but yes the key 'named' characters in missions wont be able to be attacked or killed. But you'll find the rest will most likely be.

Sometimes in Live Events you can attack other factions 'story line critical' NPCs.  (We'll they'll be GM controlled.)  Generally you can't hurt them, only hamper their ability to finish the LE.

You will find opposing Org characters as NPC's in Archives and Criticals. Archives are records of past events from which, personally, I tend to view as looking through the eyes of an operative who was there at the time regardless of Org. This means that if I was doing a Zion archive and met Niobe, I wouldn't feel inclined to attack as at that point I'm playing the role of a Zion operative and it isn't how the mission happened.

Meeting opposing Org characters in Criticals or Archives is governed by the situation. There are many occasions where you meet these characters but your mission isn't to attack them but to meet them to get info etc.. Attacking them could be detrimental to the mission.

But yeah, as mentioned, technically NPC's are tagged in the mission creator as to whether they are attackable or not and generally they're not.

Live Events are different, there have been numerous occasions where the LE character has been flagged (Especially on Vector) so you could try to attack them, but getting them on their own to attack is very rare. Not to mention they're not controlled by AI but controlled by a Dev with special Dev powers!

Ever notice how Niobe is the most common LE character to actually be killed? Of course, one recon later and it's all erased. I can think of about 3-4 LEs where a Rarebit controlled Niobe has been killed. It's quite hilarious.

Thats awesome!!!

Of course, the fun comes when you're in a mission and the NPCs that weren't hostile turn on you, such as the statue mission where the person "helping" you suddenly attacks you and your goal switches from "don't let him die" to "die! Yew go ta hell an' yew die!" SMILEY

So...keep your eyes out for the occasional in-mission switcheroo...

I seem to recall Colt being killed a lot more than that during one of his early live events.

Occasionally mission npcs like cryptos and some of the accelorators are killable. But you have to remember that in missions the Main character NPC's are they're respective levels. Sooo a team of 20-30's that enter such a mission will be shocked to find a hostile level 60+  There was once an Anome mission too if i'm not mistaken.
Either way i seen agent pace get "killed" once but it was hushed up rather quickly and not mentioned >.> *watches back*

Well Agent Pace and Gray are programs just like any other Agent (although Gray is somewhat limited to where he can go) so it is in fact a bluepill that gets killed (shame this isn't actually shown in the game but still...), Humans have EJP and important exiles have their backups. So even if you take out Niobe in a mission, she'd only have used the EJP and she wouldn't be dead.

Yea but I was thinking mostly outside of LE's such as following a new player on one of his earlier missions to meet up with computer Niobe or Ghost and being able to attack them (me being a machine player). Recenly on a mission for the machines I encountered random level 1 "office workers" who were walking around saying things your here most of the blue pills say. At one point I noticed I could close combat them and did and just started killing all the office worker NPC's to see what would happen... nothing really outside of watchmen showing up, but I still found it interesting.
