#36300479161 07/16/2008 14:18:43 Forum Update
The changes to the forums made during today's maintenance include:

    * Signatures should now fit properly.
    * Several performance enhancements, especially in search and loading.
    * WYSIWYG Editor should have a few new buttons, and behave better overall.
    * Usernames should always link to the User.
    * Polls should behave a bit better.

Please post in this thread any problems you have encountered with this new forum build.

Thanks.

So, anyone else missing the WYSIWYG editor buttons entirely now in Firefox 3, or do I just have my browser configurated wrong?

They are still working for me but certain things dont load, like if I try and click 'More colours' for font text it shows the SOE 'System maintenance' page o.O

#36300479165 07/16/2008 14:27:07 Re:Forum Update
No WYSIWYG editor at all in Safari 3, just a text box.
#36300479174 07/16/2008 14:37:17 Re:Forum Update
Tested as much as I could, and everything seems to be working well phor me in PhirePhox 3.0 ...except phor one thing.  The 'html' button will take me to the SOE maintenence page.

#36300479180 07/16/2008 14:54:34 Re:Forum Update
Yeah, no WYSIWYG in Firefox 3 for me either, Rarebit.

Also, did the dev/admin post tracker always say number of votes?

Still getting this error when trying to reply to a PM:

Error.
Could not determine the user id. Please check if you typed the username correctly and try again.

~The 'Go to Last Post' button doesn't seem to work anymore, it sends you to the start of the thread.
~Some of the icons dont load some of the time.

Thats all that I have noticed so far, havent really been testing though

EDIT: All the posting stuff seems to be working (love the new quick color changer, any chance of getting a drop down for hyper-linking, smilies and image posting?  Or would that be pressing the Web Team too far :P )

Ooo I just noticed a new feature... try to make a post with a bad word in it and see what it does SMILEY Thats cool hehe...

It looks like they are going to put in a voting system... so my question is why make something new when you can't fix what you have? hmm
#36300479230 07/16/2008 16:52:30 Re:Forum Update
Haha. I can see that becoming a real pain in the rear-end. Someone types up a huge long message and hasn't realised they put a censored word in the post and hits submit and bang! bye-bye post SMILEY
#36300479231 07/16/2008 16:53:55 Re:Forum Update

#36300479237 07/16/2008 17:21:31 Re:Forum Update

(OMG I HAVE A POTTYMOUTH) crap. Is there really some sort of stop-all on "language" now? Really? What if I go to make a NR post and I write up a character who uses a little colorful language? What if we have a post where Niobe says a swear, is that going to disappear, too? It's going to be weird seeing people doing self-editing, especially since before there was a sort of understood code to cursing, though now anything could be anything. Which is slightly more annoying. It's going to be really annoying going through a seven page story or whatever finding every instance of a word which might be deemed offensive and replacing it with a 4th grade word which makes character dialogue sound like those Orbit commercials.

I'd much rather we could be treated like credit-card carrying adults.

Also: I don't know if it's just me, but I find the new underscored names aesthetically displeasing.

EDIT: There are also some... loopholes within the new filtration system which did not exist with the word filter system.

#36300479261 07/16/2008 18:37:06 Re:Forum Update
The first thing that I noticed (which doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet) is that threads with multiple pages are not showing up with the multiple page icons beneath the thread's listing in the subforum. Sorry if that explanation is a little vague.

For example, in General Discussion there exists the thread Register for Fan Faire using the guild name "Bullet Time Operatives"! Half Priced Passes!!. That thread is at the moment 3 pages long. Typically, underneath multipage threads it says "Go to Page: 1, 2, 3, 4..." Not so for the above example. I see some threads that still have it and others that do not. At this point, I don't see anything to point to a reason why that's happened.

edit: Also... half of my post's text is green...

Kinda sorted out the thumbs up/down Emoticons... they look a little pale though SMILEY

The line under eveyone's name does look a little strange, but they are links to profiles after all. /shrug

And change the underline to show only while hovering over it, just like the list of those online ^_^

EDIT: Speaking of which:

There are 22 online users: 12 registered, 10 guest(s)
Most users ever online was 17,098 on 9/24/07 11:30 PM
Connected users: Digita1Spirit  ShiXinFeng  Skull101  SolidRevolver  Vitasenzafine  XXT  Zenotron

12 resestered users online, but only 7 show.
Though do you have the MODs to be hidden from view when online?  Same with Admin?

I think also the Support forum should be expanded. Running on a 1440x900 resolution it's easy to just skip by it especially for new players who don't know their way around and who will need the help the most.

Yeah, I missed it the first time I looked for it after you mentioned it.

And got my toolbar/editing stuff back, like Rarebit said.

Do not like the messed up thing with not sending to the right page. It seems to want to do it 2-3 pages earlier, cuz I tried it with Dev screenshots on one of Rarebit's posts and it went 2 pages earlier than the post.
#36300479530 07/17/2008 12:02:39 Re:Forum Update
Aww, it broke link formatting in some oooooold posts that still had the square bracket markup tags from our old forums.

It's also cutting off a line break if I add one after my last sentence, as I like to do so that the text isn't quite so rammed up against my sig. Now I have to hit Enter twice to make it keep a blank line at the end.

#36300479531 07/17/2008 12:03:28 Re:Forum Update

Well phor some reason, I can't post pics now. :/  also, can't use the phont colors ...at work, using IE

#36300479775 07/18/2008 02:45:57 Re:Forum Update
Not being able to see if there are multiple pages to a thread being actually going into it is a little taxing.  It's not a big deal, just throwing it out there like the proverbial brick.
#36300479779 07/18/2008 03:09:37 Re:Forum Update
I like the copy/paste feature added, but please fix that last post bug.

What's this? Another utter failure by Web Presence? How could I not see that coming? Oh, wait, I did.

From what I recall, this interface isn't theirs; it's called TinyMCE. They'll only be able to add a new feature if TinyMCE supports/has it.

Vinia wrote:

Yeah, real smooth. Rather than fix the problem like normal people (the images' dimensions are specified in the code generated, which caused the larger-than-normal thumb smileys to scrunch up), they make new images. *Sighs.* All they had to do was remove the dimension properties. Seriously, delete a few characters!

SolidRevolver wrote:

Correct.

Edit: And extra, empty paragraphs were added to my post when I submitted it. Nice.

#36300479813 07/18/2008 06:40:49 Re:Forum Update
Can we switch back to the old version while the problems are fixed on this new version? Its like getting a new car and finding out its got no wheels and the car company going "Hold onto it for a few weeks while we send them out to you." :-\ Sure you could push the bugger from A to B but it kind of defeats the point of the upgrade no?

#36300480220 07/19/2008 12:21:10 Re:Forum Update
I think I would have to agree with everyone that the most annoying bug has to be the page number issues. Not only does it throw you off but it makes you want to yell sometimes SMILEY

Lets hope they fix it soon... or buy a license to a much better forum... oh hell use phpBB, since they done their last major update that forum system has gotten better... ANYTHING!

I think I've phound a temporary 'phix' phor this problem... phor me at least.... this solved it.

Go to your profile preferences, and change your 'preferred number of pages' to: 10

I did this yesterday, and ever since then, when I click on the little last post icon, it works. SMILEY  And clicking on page numbers work correctly too.

I still can't post pics though. SMILEY  So I'm very sad.

Right. I want to know what was going through the head of the... person who thought adding that bit of code as a good idea. It boggles the mind, it really does.

In other news, I noticed that the subject for what I'm just posting (before I shortened it) had a lot of 'Re's in it. I haven't traced these posts back yet, but it looks like another lovely 'feature' here is the unintelligent addition of 'Re:' to every subject, whether or not it already has one. It's bad enough with PMs.

I don't like the new font color pallette, but I might be the only one who used nearly every color in the old pallette. Still, it was much more varied than this.. this Microsoft Word-ish thing we have now. Arrgghrawwr.

Kinda makes ya sick to think that something like this... happened. You start to wonder about who they have working on their sites and why they were offered a job in the first place. Hell when I was seven and working on websites I don't think I ever done something that... bad!

It's understandable to have errors and that some might slip out into the public but when it comes to such a basic HTML tag and messing up on its use... wow... just wow.

Sad thing is... we are stuck with these errors while they take the time to work on new "features" that inevitably will cause more errors. The question I have alsways asked when it comes to these forums is why make something new when you can't fix what you have made? Still no answer to that...

/facepalm X 1000

<AND ADD RETURNS TO AN EDITED POST!! For the love of god people..>

#36300481330 07/23/2008 02:46:05 Re:Forum Update

*Sighs loudly.*

Another problem.

When I posted in this thread, the redirect took me here:
http://forums.station.sony.com/mxo/...mp;#36300481329
which not only put me on the wrong page (2 out of a supposed 2, when the post actually was the last on page 1), but made it look like it was the only post in the thread.

No consistency in the calculations relating to posts and pages. Pagination is not difficult. The original forum code probably worked (if somewhat inefficiently); what did Web Presence do to break it, and why?

#36300481355 07/23/2008 06:40:51 Re:Forum Update

Oh, I've found the (a?) problem with the 'latest post' link not working: someone hardcoded the posts-per-page value to 10 when it creates that link. It still uses our preferences when it creates the page lists though, leading to pages appearing incorrectly for some people - and it's why Phluff seemingly fixed it by changing her preferences to 10 posts per page.

For example, when I entered this thread just now, the link had 'start=40' in it, but moving to the end of the thread manually I went through a link with 'start=45' in it (I have 15 posts per page).

Why? Why was the number hardcoded into the link generator? It wasn't before!

#36300481382 07/23/2008 10:45:05 Re:Forum Update
