Just noticed a problem with quoting pointy brackets. I don't think it happened before this forum update, but I'm not absolutely sure about that. Might also occur with other characters used in HTML markup--haven't checked.

The problem: if you quote a post containing text surrounded by pointy brackets, <like this>, the brackets and what was between them don't show up in the edit window while you're writing your addition to the quoted text, and don't show up in the resulting post you make. For instance, if someone quotes this post, my previous sentence will have just ", ," in it instead of the "like this" words that were there between the brackets.

Yup. I noticed that a few days ago, but didn't mention it because I couldn't remember if it used to do that before. Looks like it hides anything even slightly HTML-like.

One of the first things I learnt when doing Web development was to turn any greater/less-than symbols in non-HTML input (such as posts made with a GUI like this) into their respective character codes so they don't behave like HTML in the final output. You don't just remove them and their contents!

Web development 101 guys. They're disregarding the most basic design practises. (Although I confess it could be the TinyMCE people who fouled this time, might not be Web Presence. Someone's being an idiot, whatever the case.)

#36300482340 07/26/2008 12:34:32 Re:Forum Update
I just put the newest version of TinyMCE on my site and I have yet to have any problems remotely resembling what we are having here. All it comes down to is they messed up big time on this new update and I'm sure it will never be all the way fixed.

Who thinks we should go back to the Lithium forums? heh

I concur, I think what we lost far outweighs any positives we gained from this update.

Virrago,

I still don't have any color selections when choosing the Color Pallete.

Not a bug that has any direct affect on forum users.... I guess you could call it a slip up if anything... clicking on the links will take you to a 503 error page...
#36300486078 08/06/2008 17:47:50 Re:Forum Update
At the bottom of the page the ESRB logo isn't loading.

Also at the top of my page I've been noticing that "My Bookmarks" keeps dissapearing then reappearing when I hit F5.
#36300486200 08/07/2008 01:03:02 Re:Forum Update
The post-eating bug is back as well, now.

Rollback, plz.
#36300486208 08/07/2008 01:31:05 Re:Forum Update
Seriously, tho, how hard is it to have a forum search function where quotes work?
#36300486450 08/07/2008 16:11:04 Re:Forum Update
The forum now deletes the last return from a post or PM. Unless you enter at least one return at the end of your PM text, your sig gets chunked onto the same line as your text:

The return-eating is a bit of a peeve of mine, partly because I use Firefox, which doesn't render the single-width "hr" horizontal rules that the forum uses to separate post content from a poster's sig; to avoid having my text run right across the top of my sig, I got in the habit of entering a return at the end of my text. Now I have to enter two. Otherwise it ends up right on top of the sig like this

which makes it harder to read.

#36300486596 08/08/2008 01:34:04 Re:Forum Update
H'mm? Testing. I'm entering this line of text and nothing else.
#36300486597 08/08/2008 01:35:13 Re:Forum Update

My sig came out fine. No newlines at all and it worked. *Shrugs.*

Proof:

#36300488813 08/15/2008 08:22:40 Re:Forum Update
I now seem to have a problem where going to these forums in Internet Explorer loads a blank page.

It works fine in Firefox, though logging in is a bit odd. My login is accepted, but it never finishes loading the page you're redirected to afterward, and often I'm redirected to the login screen which, oddly enough, tells me that I used an incorrect username despite the fact that I am now logged in.
#36300488819 08/15/2008 08:56:02 Re:Forum Update
Still having the problem with the last page link not actualy showing up or going to the last page.

Its beyond annoying now.
#36300488823 08/15/2008 09:22:18 Re:Forum Update
I kept on getting the blank page on FireFox, had to clear out all my cookies and private data to get the forum to appear, I get the same issue with logging in as Neoteny and also I see this...

9mmfu is king of the castle and has kicked everyone else out!

#36300489064 08/17/2008 08:26:46 Re:Forum Update
I normally use the IE browser, and the forums don't even come up. Like others have said, only loads a blank page.
#36300489428 08/18/2008 13:56:21 Re:Forum Update

I just ran into a problem where posting a new reply caused it to appear as the only reply on the second (last) page on a thread, despite there being several other posts on that page.

A refresh fixed this.

#36300489503 08/18/2008 19:23:09 Re:Forum Update
Fix it so I can post from my iphone again, right now when I hit the reply button it loads and when I click message body it doesnt do anything.

Nope, we've seen that before.

Procurator wrote:

*Sighs loudly.*

Another problem.

When I posted in this thread, the redirect took me here:
http://forums.station.sony.com/mxo/...mp;#36300481329
which not only put me on the wrong page (2 out of a supposed 2, when the post actually was the last on page 1), but made it look like it was the only post in the thread.

No consistency in the calculations relating to posts and pages. Pagination is not difficult. The original forum code probably worked (if somewhat inefficiently); what did Web Presence do to break it, and why?

Procurator wrote:
Oh god, it did it again when I posted that! SMILEY
I saw it a couple of times yesterday as well.
#36300489643 08/19/2008 08:32:48 Re:Forum Update

So I was hit with the post eating bug again, when I was informed in lovely bold red text that "you must input a message before you can submit it!" or something like that. Luckily, I copied my entry before hitting submit, so I simply reloaded the page and pasted it in again, then clicked submit.

However, I was promptly greeted once again by the same lovely red message, despite being very aware that I had input more than enough text to qualify it for submission. I refresh/copy/paste'd several times over, eventually being frustrated enough to type "THERE IS A MESSAGE HERE, I SWEAR IT." into the bottom of the entry, which then made it work.

What is wrong with these forums?

Post edited. Reason Code 001: Bypassing language filter.

#36300489645 08/19/2008 08:41:33 Re:Forum Update

I did wonder why you posted 'THERE IS A MESSAGE HERE, I SWEAR IT.' elsewhere. SMILEY

That's crazy. I could understand (though not tolerate for more than a few seconds) if maybe it only picked up typed characters rather than pasted stuff; so if you pasted the message it wouldn't realise you'd added anything. But that doesn't explain the red message the first time. SMILEY

So I don't have the option to put in a signature anymore, yet I can use an avatar. Also, I can't send PMs.

Edit: Oh, nevermind. They're magically back now. ~_~
#36300504192 09/29/2008 09:00:43 Re:Forum Update
I want a "Preview Post" button.
I want a "x/20,480 characters left" tally on top of the editor so us long-winded fellows know when our post is getting too big.
I want automatic image resizers for signatures and avatars so we don't have to edit them manually to get them in without the Mods jumping on our tails.

Why do we not have these things?! My fur is wet from my tears (plus I fell in the human toilet again).
#36300504639 09/30/2008 07:57:53 Re:Forum Update

This forum is useless.

I can see a new post has been added to a thread, however when i actually go into the post by either starting at the begining of the thread or clicking the last post link i see no new posts.  This happens in the majority of threads.  I have tried refreshing and its still the same.  I have tried different methods of getting into the new posts but its just not happening.

SOE hang your head in shame this is rubbish.  As ive stated elsewhere we are affectively paying to access this forum with our subscriptions.  Why are we the customers getting shafted up the botty?

#36300504651 09/30/2008 08:21:42 Re:Forum Update
Yeah, I get that a lot. Not that it should come to this but to get around this issue in the address bar where it says:

"start=xx" followed by "&topic_id=xxxxxxxx"

Add 15 to the number after "start="

This will then allow you to see the next page.

It's Stupid that we should even have to figure that out, really.

#36300513163 10/22/2008 16:55:04 Re:Forum Update

After today's maintenace, there is a bit of a margin on the left between characters and the body border. Also, a new box for adding links in text. In the box there is something that says Link List, but it seems to have no function yet.

#36300513169 10/22/2008 17:15:47 Re:Forum Update
WYSIWYG editor is missing for me, too. Don't shoot me, but I'm on IE 6, with Google toolbar and Verizon FiOS toolbar.

I don't even need to post the Smiley of Doom anymore. I just tap the Enter key TWICE.

*Edit: A little bit like that.

*Edit2: Whoa, editing made all the paragraph lines spread apart even more O_o

Edit3: ROFL, did it again.

#36300513338 10/23/2008 05:31:48 Re:Forum Update

Yeah, they've added padding to the paragraphs in addition to the margins they had before. It's showing in the editor and the post, so everything's really spaced out.

Awesome. They don't even know how to use CSS properly.

#36300513342 10/23/2008 05:40:34 Re:Forum Update

I swear to Foamy, how hard is it to copy code from a SUCCESSFUL website, paste it here, and claim you did the work yourself? It's not like anyone's gonna call you on it.

#36300513434 10/23/2008 11:16:49 Re:Forum Update

Yeah... every time you edit the post it repads and spreads things out even more... :S

Oh... so when I try to test it, it doesn't do what it was doing when I edited my post 5 minutes ago...

Aha! Now it's doing it!

This is just sad, They just need to get a test webserver for this stuff before they just apply it to the forums.

#36300513441 10/23/2008 11:42:40 Re:Forum Update

True, but if they were halfway decent programmers they wouldn't have introduced such bugs in the first place.

I've passed this along (after my aneurism healed)
Also, as a work around, if you shift+enter it won't double space.

Virrago, just to let you know, I'm also seeing the mod's trash threads a lot lately too. Not the contents but links to them on the main list etc...

#36300513512 10/23/2008 14:54:07 Re:Forum Update

And after entering the post screen, the back button doesn't work (in Opera at least). I need to select a page at least two steps back before it'll work. This wasn't the case before.
