Definately too short, 2/3 of the demo is the tutorial for christs sake.
Just finished the demo.. it is pretty short, but it was definitely amazing. I'm not sure how this sort of gameplay will hold up for an entire game (or how long the full game will be), but my excitement for the game has only increased after actually playing it.
If only I didn't suck at it so badly heh It's going to take me a while to get used to 1st person perspective jumping..
You can't really bemoan a demo for being too short; it was free, it was definitely demonstrative of what you can do, and it leaves you wanting more. So much more.
You can probably tell from that, that I have played the demo and I do indeed love it; I'm absolutely looking forward to playing it in a fortnight. In the meantime... I'll play the demo.
Again.

I can and I will
when you compare this demo with the demo for say... Bioshock, looking back the demo for Bioshock seemed to be so much longer than Mirrors Edge without giving away too much of the game, which makes me wonder... is Mirrors Edge going to be one of those games which is too short?

Portal was too short (imo), but it's still one of the best games there is.

Honestly, I personally do think this is going to be the case.. at least as far as the Story Mode is concerned. But I'm not sure this is a bad thing as I'm not sure the gameplay in ME is the kind of gameplay that would stay fresh over a long drawn out campaign. It would be great if I was wrong though hehe
What I do see there being a lot of potential for in ME is extra levels, challenge courses and, for those who get hooked on it, the time trials.
So, really, I don't think the comparison to Portal is a bad one at all. Probably a relatively short story mode experience, but with nearly unlimited potential for expansion.

Oh yea I realise about Portal but imo thats how long Portal should have been, any longer and it would have gotten tedious. Mirrors Edge... I dunno...

It depends on the variety of things you can climb/slide/jump on. If they keep adding new elements and maps, moves that go with those with updates/patches, I think the fun can be easily extended.

Dunno if the demo is short or not...still sounds pretty tempting besides from my understanding the demo is only supposed to give ya a taste. A tease if u will lmao

8.3 not bad, but not excelent.
The reviews are going well so far, though it's clearly not a blockbuster. I already know I'm going to enjoy the game, so my only hope is that it sells well enough that they make the planned sequels.

True, but that won't stop me. I always wanted something like this (1st person) since I've played Tomb Raider (third person). And yes, sequels or expansions for Mirror's Edge, heck, maybe even a prequel with Faith's Master or something.

Her... Master?
Looking at this list of reviews, the average is something like 8.3/10, which is just grand. So far the main complaints I've seen are that it's too fiddly, and consequently the reviewer wasn't very good at it. This means two things: firstly that people who can move with more agility will enjoy the game more than the reviews suggest, and secondly that it'll undoubtedly do better on the PC. The analogue sticks may work alright in general FPSs (though not in my experience, 'cos I suck), but probably aren't sensitive enough for a game like this.
I also saw one review that said that an online leaderboard would make the game better. Uh, it has a leaderboard, idiot. He must not have so much as glanced at the main menu. Gotta be careful with these reviewers sometimes.
Incidentally, if anyone is wondering why I'm being critical of the reviewers (you know, you're thinking: 'if you don't like their reviews, why read them?'
, it's because I don't want to see a bad score on Metacritic. If that score goes south, less people buy the game. The less people buy the game, the less likely it is that we get more Mirror's Edge goodness in the future.
just read the First DLC will come first to ps3 early Next year
The reviews are pretty much confirming the impression I got from the demo, so they aren't really surprising to me. I, of course, wish they were higher for the reasons Proc has stated, but I'll be giving the full version a try when I get the chance regardless.

The guy who taught her parkour, never seen the comic-video of that?

Yeah, I know who you mean: Mercury. It just sounded funny.
was watching the comercial for it. It even peaked my fiance's interest. So looks like i might pick it up.
<./img>In time for my review...
game = awesome
Now I must get back to playing.

Boo for getting stuck and not knowing where to jump too.
(currently on chapter 6 in the boat)

Hold B, I would imagine O on the ps3, it'll point ya right.

Well, that was short.
Well at least I can get enjoyment out of jumping off tall buildings.

I knew where I had to go I just couldnt figure out what wall/jump/grab combination I needed to do, but got there in the end.
Short but sweet. Could have been a little big longer, story a bit more engaging etc etc...
Is there any Multiplayer in Mirror's Edge? If so how is it?

The only multiplayer is time trials, which is probably what's going to absorb most of my time in the game and keep it going for months. I haven't seen them first hand, but I gather your times are uploaded to a global leaderboard (or is it regional?) and you can download ghosts from there or your friends against which you can 'race'.
Just like in Mario Kart Wii really, which means it must be awesome.

*shoots a blue shell at Proc then runs by him as he falls down building* nananaaaa

Wait..
There's no multiplayer, the game is allegedly short (I tend to take at least three times as long to beat a game as anybody else, what can I say, savor the flavor), and is a linear game at that?
What's the point in me getting it, then? Can I do extremely impressive tricks and vary them while playing on the hardest setting, or will I have to do the same trick to reach the next platform while bullets kill me that much quicker?

Okay, not quite like Mario Kart Wii.

The former, yes; the idea is to try out different approaches. Edge Magazine in the UK have given Mirror's Edge 5/10... 50%. That's pathetic, and it's got me in a right mood. Edge have always been a bit pretentious, but this takes the biscuit.
When i click the first link on the very first post.

the psn updated the store today offering a free Download to the theme music the song is amazing nice and relaxing theme song
Any of you lucky Americans got your undeserving hands on the PC version of Mirror's Edge yet? I have to wait until Friday. I know, a whole two days. Christ...
So far it's getting better reviews than its console counterparts, with improved graphics, less frustration due to the precise keyboard & mouse controls and PhysX effects (fancy but superfluous eyecandy). Except where the reviewers copied and pasted their reviews of the console versions and pretty much ignored the changes.
Looking forward to the DLC too, which should be here at the end of the month. For those interested, it's a pack of time trial maps (really pretty and abstract maps at that, which reminds me of Tron and Mario), but as there's a general consensus that time trials are the best part of the game, this is a glorious thing.
I'm getting a copy of Mirrors Edge next week. I fear I have to hold back playing it until end of january though ... I need the time to work for important stuff for university, I know I wouldn't resist if I started once >_<
