#36300445591 04/22/2008 07:57:22 Lock's transfer: Hovercraft Battle
Greetings.

A special hovercraft battle will be held tomorrow, Wednesday the 23 at 6:00 PM MCT. Cypherite operatives discovered secret data about the transfer of Commander Lock to New Zion by E Pluribus Neo. Cypherite and Machine captains are determined to ambush EPN and Zion at the rendez-vous point, as the location is now known to them. In response, Zion and E Pluribus Neo also sent their best captains to defend Commander Lock's transfer.

Each organization has to submit a list of 4 experienced (if possible) captains, regardless of instances. This battle will run a special scenario. EPN/Zion will be teamed up against Cypherites/Machines. The battle will end when one side is completely eliminated. One liaison officer for each organization has to assemble a team and post the list here. Once they are convoked to the battle by their liaison officer, captains should post to acknowledge that they will attend the battle.

The battle coordinating itself will be held on the Recursion instance of the Matrix. If a captain is from either Syntax or Vector, it will be necessary to have an alternative RSI available, if possible, with a similar name.

It is also known that Cypherites have very little experience with Hovercraft Battles. BattleCoordinator will be available at least one hour prior to the battle to give a comprehensive tutorial if needed.

This battle is considered a critical Hovercraft Battle. Rank points obtained for this battle will be doubled.

As a Machine representative, our proposed team is:

Mathalos: Syntax
Yasamuu: Vector
Illyria1: Recursion
Sontag: Recursion

Actually, I am very experienced with the Hovercraft battles, having often been the team lead for my side, and yes I would very much like to be involved.

You're my friend, Yas...  I don't want to fight you, but I will if I have to.  In the name of our continuing peace talks with the Machines, I ask that you don't involve yourself with these Cypherite scumbags.

Lock is of no value to any of you anymore.

Friendships have to be placed on hold in the battlefield, we both know that. Equally, I think we both know that to cut ties with those willing to support us in this battle would probably result in our defeat before the battle had even begun. I wouldn't expect you to decline the support of EPN.

Lock must be of some value, otherwise we wouldn't be in this situation.

So be it.

For the record, the value Lock holds for me is simply friendship.

And I don't let my friends down.

That's alright, though. The Roc's fully loaded and ready.

Come and get some. SMILEY

OOC:

Just a few questions:

  1. Will we be playing on a larger map? Because the few games I've been in have had small maps for the number of ships we seem to be talking about here.
  2. Will there be any rule changes allowed during this match?
  3. What is the winning scenario for both sides?
  4. Am I reading this as starting at 6pm PDT? I was under the impression it would be later than that.
  5. What will the winning captains be awarded with?

1. The combat area is indeed larger.
2. Rule changes?
3. I do not handle the final outcome that this battle will have.
4. Yeah, there was a misunderstanding. It is at 6.
5. Each participant will get 2 rank points. Disabled ships on the winning side will get 4 rank points and surviving ships on the winning side will get 6 rank points.

Well, we don't know whose been chosen for the Cypherites. Yes, we did approach the Machines, and I don't think it's a setup, but I guess we'll see.

For me, it's because a Machine liaison and some of these very Machine captains approached us to speak about peace.  ...and then they make a move to assist Cypherites in laying a trap to kill or capture our former Commander.

I will do what I must to assure the safety of Jason Lock.  However, I fear what will become of the future and our peacetalks because of this...

Then we will do what we must to make sure that you fail.

I've said it before. If the Architect had never made his declaration that the truce was at an end, would you still have the same people that seem so bloodthirsty now? Somehow, I don't think so. If you don't think so either, then ask yourself why that is?

Unfortunately the Architect did make that declaration, though and we have to deal with that in whatever way we choose to do so. We can't deal in if's or but's.

I think it's fair to say there's been no backing down from either side and a fair share of "bloodthirsty-ness" on both sides since the truce was ended. Both have many members who are not in favour of the war, but are not prepared to climb down. That was the problem in the past too, however, with there being such a high risk in stepping back it's not one either side is likely to make anytime soon. Which brings us back to the merry-go-round of debating things here.

Isn't it funny how people like Merrit can see all that he said in his opposition but he can't see it in his own people. Yas is quite right, both sides are guilty of this, strange how we're the ones who can see this though. Zion and EPN are too busy pointing fingers to see that they forget all about their own doings...
I find it funny, as well.

You told us Cyphs bottom left was ours, so we were going off of the bottom then left side OF the bottom. Not the left and then below that corner.

I call shenanigans on that whole fight. Zion and EPN sploited their luck.
#36300446546 04/24/2008 00:00:25 Re:Lock's transfer: Hovercraft Battle

This was a joint effort and we both fought our hardest to ensure Commander Lock's safety. We estimate that he will arrive in New Zion shortly. Likely without further interference.

I'd like to extend my greatest thanks to EPN - it was great fighting side by side with you, and I would do it again in an instant.

My only regret is that the Merovingian Operatives hadn't pulled out of the battle before they shot my hovercraft down, but eh, Lock is safe, and what can I do?

#36300446547 04/24/2008 00:01:58 Re:Lock's transfer: Hovercraft Battle
EPN/Zion won.

It's obvious that this was a difficult battle. Many things were learned from it. We'll try to adapt the system if such critical battle comes again.

Congratulations to
-Neoteny and Fenshire for getting the rank of Lieutenant
-ShiXinFeng and Lt0Brien for getting the rank of Acolyte
-Sontag for getting the rank of Private (please choose which one of your ship's stats you would like to be upgraded)

The roster will be updated tomorrow.

Thanks to the 19 captains for participating.
#36300446548 04/24/2008 00:02:19 Re:Lock's transfer: Hovercraft Battle

Congratulations to Zion and EPN, they did the buisness and saw it through and were deserving of their victory. Nobody can deny this.

Thanks to my team-mates Illyria, Mathalos and Sontag for putting up a fight too. It's a shame Sontag and Mathalos lost their stability at vital times in the battle.

I maintain if the Mervs hadn't bottled it, we'd have had an even more interesting battle. Alas, that is not the nature of the Mervs.

((Serious props to the BC for putting up with all the crap in area, and having the patience to deal with everything so well. Fantastic. ))

#36300446550 04/24/2008 00:04:56 Re:Lock's transfer: Hovercraft Battle

Well done, everyone.  I'm glad that our organizations' faith in us was not misplaced.  EPN's got some *CENSORED* good fighters on their side, and it was real nice to work with them.

Thanks for keeping Lock safe, and taking care of him while he recovered.

We "bottled" it due to a more profitable ending. Our whole goal in this was to retrieve Locke, hold him for ransom and gain profit. When the tides of the battle seemed as if they were going to overwhelm us, we dealt for a Profitable End rather then a Vengeful and Predictable End.

I believe you all did quite a good job, and the experience was well deserved all around.

If you're going to quote me, then quote me. Don't put words in my mouth without suggesting your own biased edit. The thought that the Architect broke it is ridiculous and downright laughable.

As for the battle, I take it it was a good battle. It's all practise for the next one where the prize might be worth something more than a few outdated command codes and information we cannot verify. A win would possibly have affected Zion's morale most of all but as it stands we are no worse off than we were before.

((My router gave out at the start (2.5) hours in, I never even got to fire a shot at anyone. Well now that we've had one of these and have learned a few things I hope we can have some larger, but not quite so large, battles in the future. It was fun to fight against fellow operatives from different instances. ))

#36300446595 04/24/2008 01:16:52 Re:Lock's transfer: Hovercraft Battle

Here is the map and final outcome.

Essentially, The Merovingian ops began at the very top of the honecomb, Zion on the top left edge, Cypherites on the bottom left edge, Machinists on the top right edge, EPN on the bottom right edge. A mysterious ship matching the description of other Halborn or Carlyne's vessels started in the dead center of the map.

The Devildog and The Titan swooped down to deal with the Cypherites while The Shadrack and The Saltpillar navigated an obstical to the east and approached the Cypherites from that direction. Machinists started to move south towards EPN while EPN moved west to aid in the erradication of the Cypherites. The Merovingian's operatives, except for Recession, Captain of The Silent Hearts maintained their position. Recession slowly entered the mid-top area of the field.

Shortly before the Zion fleet destroyed the Cypherites, EPN turned around to meet the Machinists in combat near the center of the field. Yasamuu made his way over the eastmost obstacle towards the top of the map in a bid to avoid ShiXinFeng's hovercraft, Rocinate, and eventually clashed with The Silent Hearts while The Rocinate turned south to engage other Machinist ships along with the rest of the EPN fleet.

Over the course of the battle, Yasamuu's hovercraft, Chaos and The Silent Hearts exchanged fire and, if I recall correctly, rammed several times while maintaining a position away from the rest of the Machinists. After a shorter period of time, Sontag's hovercraft, Chaos Control withdrew from battle, followed by the disabling of Illyria's Ishtar. The Saltpillar and The Shadrack maintained a position on the north of the battlefield, closing in on Yasamuu's vessel while the Merovingian operatives finally deployed their fleet.

Mathalos then withdrew from combat and, shortly after, Sieges's Quinotar managed to disable The Saltpillar. Within a round, a cease-fire was called between Zion and the Merovingian, and his operatives withdrew from combat. Chaos was disabled when ShiXinFeng rammed his craft into it, and moments later, Commander Lock was transferred from Steelle's The Hand of God to RedBindi's The Titan, which is making steady progress towards New Zion.

I hope that works as a summary.

Although I could not be there, I would like to congratulate The Zion and E Pluribus Neo Captains who particpated in this vital battle, it's thanks to you that Commander Lock was able to make it to New Zion safely.

I would like to thank the Mervs who made a ceasfire with us.

I would like to Congratulate The Machinists and Cypherites for putting up a great fight.
