Human history... we created machine, eventually the human-like robot. The machine eventually murdered a human, and we attempted to destroy all robot existence. They machines rose again, and after being denied their chance at equality with humans, they spread from 01 outward, either killing or capturing almost every human being on the planet. Now we have the Matrix, and Zion, and the war.               (The Second Renaissance)

My question is, If The Matrix is supposed to be exactly like human civilization in the year 1999 AD, won't this happen again? Won't this be simulated in the Matrix? Or is The Matrix just a cycle of 1999?

Bingo. Every "new year" the year is turned back to 1999, to keep humanity from exiting it's predicted peak. There was a LE post that explained it with Tick Tock, I'll try and find it. Someone'll probably beat me to it though.
