Never got into this comic book series.  It's not that I didn't like it I just never really knew about the comic growing up, but the fact that Zach Snyder who directed 300 is making it and that it is a more adult storyline definitely wanted to make me find out more about it.  Aintitcool.com got a hold of character photos from the movie:

Comedian

Ozymandias

Rorschach

Silk Spectre

Night Owl

Night Owl is maybe too muscular... I hope they are not dumbing that down for a teen audience! But otherwise, I'd say that the casting is good, in particular Comedian!

...Nothin' on Doc Manhattan? I really hope they didn't just make him CGI...

I'm pretty sure last year during the Comic Con in San Diego Zach was interviewed about this and he said it was strictly an R rating that he was going for no less.

Actually, both DC and Marvel accept the Watchmen universe as an alternate reality of both comic universes. Rorschach has appeared (in cameos) in both companies comics in issues dealing with "elseworlds".

All of the characters were modeled after "real" heroes from the golden age of comics, and given a thick coat of realism. It's entirely possible that Night owl was a batman influenced character,

BUT

Considering the age of the Watchmen comics and the number of rewrites ol Batty has had and I would find it safer to say the current day batman is likely more influenced by the watchmen than they are him.

Puck speaks the truth. In fact, there is a legend that says Moore  originally conceived Watchmen as the future of some DC heroes, but the company finally denied it. It was too..."obscure". However, the history was so good that they told Moore to write it, but using original character. Luckily, he accepted.

But about that photos...I don't like them. They are too...superheroic for Watchmen. Perhaps Ozzymandias has to be that way...but Night Owl and Silk Spectre? Drelberg is a fat guy, for god's sake, not another Christian Bale playing Batman!

And I really hope Doc Manhattan is a CGI.

Ozymandias (well, in a 2008 way...), Rorschach and especially Comedian are spot on. For Silk Spectre, it's difficult to really say, she looks alright, they didn't take the princess of the moment like all movies nowadays. As long as they portray right that she hates wearing that misogynist costume, it should be alright! And well, I think that if she would have wear the same costume as she had in the books, that might have been way too much...

And for Nite Owl, that's again a big down.

For Dr. Manhattan, Keanu Reeves wanted to do that part, but he asked for too much... He'll be computer generated, yes.

No idea for how they will dress him, but Moloch is definitely the best choice for the casting so far.

Agreed, Rorschach and Comedian are nailed. Curiously enough, I think it would be apropiate to get "the princess of the moment" for Silk Spectre.

Last thing I've read about Doc Man. is that Billy Cudrup will be Osterman and the Doc itself will be a CGI. Sound good.

And Moloch...you are right, the best choice so far, without doubt. Great.

Noice. The only thing that disturbs me is the nuclear bomb in that kiss scene, there hasn't been one in the original comic; the desctruction was caused by something else.

I miss the Smashing Pumpkins song, but I still get more excited with every one of these I see.  SMILEY

The A-bomb kiss was in a dream sequence in the comic.

Anyone know the name of the new song? Not as moody as the other one, but it works.

From what I understand, (and just going by what my room mate has told me that he read) They showed the film to a test audiance and the ending is drasticly different from the comic's. Needless to say people were not happy with that at all. I'll try and find a link to the article.

found it

#36300520170 11/14/2008 09:12:45 Re:The Watchmen

According to that article, those who saw it were perfectly happy with it.

Sounds like it'll play better in theaters, and work better for the big screen in my opinion.

#36300520212 11/14/2008 12:46:52 Re:The Watchmen

What the hell. I think the original ending would have worked as well, but I guess they had to cut out all those sub-stories, where at the end you noticed were part of the grande finale.

Collider.com's Frosty just shot out an email from the WATCHMEN junket informing us that Zack Snyder is preparing two extended cuts for the DVD/Blu-ray release. The theatrical cut - which you'll be seeing in less than three weeks! - clocks in at 156 minutes. The Director's Cut will run 190 minutes. And then there will be a cut splicing in "Tales of the Black Freighter" that will run a whopping 205 minutes.

According to this interview, the extended cut will be the first DVD release, followed by the Ulitmate cut in the fall.

Nice that they're not going to milk us into buying three versions, but only two.

Also... this is only concept art, mind you but it would seem that Rorschach will be in DCUO.  Must investigate further.

Just seen it.... Mighty Neo would say "WHOA!" and then rocks his guitar! \m/  \mL   hehhee... I had a few Matrix moments whilst watching this movie. all i'd say is the Blue man group is a bit too much for me /chuckles and leaves.

ADD:

About 3 hours long. few good new trailers too.
