Two BChamberlains?! Dev exploits! Either that or the new NPCs will look like Rarebit's test character. Man, that'd set some new records in egotism. SMILEY

Should I be excited 'cos it's Wednesday? I know the Image Retrieval will be awesome, but... well, nothing can beat the slew of screenshots on page 12.

Looks like a collector to me, based on how he's standing. Hopefully IR is awesome today. I'm off school, so I can nag all day about it.SMILEY

EDIT: ooh lots of more shots!

That's it. I'm never going to Chelsea again. SMILEY The only problem is, of course, that this new area is going to be so popular that I won't get a moment's peace. SMILEY

Another thing you have to admit is that this is the most creative area we've seen in-game. We haven't seen anything like it. Terraces, hills, the irregular terrain... These elements have never been seen in such a configuration.

And that's not an Archivist, I'm sure. Don't Archivists have a plain green suit? That mystery NPC on the broken bridge has different coloured trousers and jacket. If people spawned near him they'd fall in the water. SMILEY

Hmm.  I don't know.  From that far away, the color may appear darker in the screenshot.  The pants look similar.

We'll have to see. I think the NPC's hair looks grey in the screenshot, but maybe I'm grasping at straws.

It's hard to say.  I hope it's a collector of some sort.  Geographically, I doubt it's an Archive Proxy.  It's in the middle of a big freaking hole! SMILEY

Besides, as mentioned, what fun is there to make a PvP Archive out of a beautifully designed area.  A lot of thought went into the layout and I can't wait to see today's IR.

I think it'd be a cool place to spawn, but who says we couldn't spawn elsewhere (sans Archivist), and use this one to get back? SMILEY

I think that's what that one broken part of the bridge is for. It's hard to tell the distance from that faraway of a shot.

I also kinda think it's an archivist now...It'd make sense why there's no HL's. They may not have been added yet though if they're ever coming. Rarebit got in his pigeons and leaves, it looks like. Also, Rarebit...were you actually in the office that early? Or just sending from home?
#36300400795 02/06/2008 08:23:24 Re:Image Retrieval - January 30, 2008
I'm still really hoping for a new district, even if you can only access it by the white hall style of transport. The area looks too wonderful and detailed, and looks like it should be part of the city, to be an Archive.... My fingers are still crossed for a district... I thought I saw a tiny part of the bottom corner of a HL in one image... but I was probably hoping too much...
#36300400797 02/06/2008 08:31:21 Re:Image Retrieval - January 30, 2008
Waaait a minute. It can't be an archive. Why would Rare have added all those benches if it were an archive? We'd never get a chance to sit down if we're flagged! I can't believe they were added for purely aesthetic purposes; the sheer number of benches is bordering on the absurd. SMILEY

#36300400801 02/06/2008 08:37:11 Re:Image Retrieval - January 30, 2008

I personally feel its either an extension of an existing district (although there are many places it could be added too) due to what was said about its size or a new district entirely (that may be added to at a later date).

It wouldnt make sense to have a construct that basically functions like a district.  I thought the constructs were supposed to represent previous version of the simulation?

Hmm...it'd be interesting if it was an archive but able to have missions.

EDIT: It looks like they tried to use every already made building/area that were uncommon or not used in this area. I love the uneven terrain, it's definitely something the rest of the city missed out on. So far, we've mainly seen pics of the area facing the water, I wonder what ends the area on other sides? Also, if this is a construct, that light pole out on the water could be a spawn point. I'm still trying to figure out why that's there.
#36300400803 02/06/2008 08:40:09 Re:Image Retrieval - January 30, 2008
There's a common misconception with constructs and the "Archives".

A construct simply means any world not connected to the main simulation.  Technically, you could call the Matrix its own construct.

The Archives are named so because they represent previous versions of the Matrix.  They are Constructs, yes, but Constructs themselves don't adhere to that rule.

So technically, this could be a construct.  Hope that cleared it up.

But if it was a construct, why would an Archivist be in there?

Right.  I wasn't saying this was definitely just a construct of some kind.  Who knows, I see a couple ways this could be an Archive.  But don't forget that Archivists have alot of information.  This doesn't necessarily have to be an "Archive", in the sense of a previous version of the Matrix.  It could be something the Machines never finished, etc.

SMILEY<img mce_tsrc=" />

Construct = Any separate world (The Dojo and Jump Programs from M1)
Archive = A construct based on a previous version of the Matrix (Yuki, Sakura, Ashencourte, etc.)

Construct does not necessarily = Archive

The terms should not be used interchangeably.

Heh ok.  I knew what i meant anyway... but yeah i knew that just used the wrong word is all.

Still.. i seriously hope this isnt an Archive.

#36300400824 02/06/2008 09:15:57 Re:Image Retrieval - January 30, 2008
I said this early on when the Image Retrievals started, but I'm wondering if the Archivist Society has opened up a gateway to this Construct.  In BETA, there were plans for actually entering the City Library and accessing "Restricted Sections" and "The Librarian".  The books in the Restricted Section were powerful keys that were rumored to be gateways to hidden constructs.  I think that would be much more cooler than an Archive.

EDIT: Not suggesting that that's exactly what's going to happen, but if it were simply described as Archivists opening up a gateway, that would be cool.  How will they do it without my poor Hypatia? SMILEY

City Library, I always wanted to enter that thing. Also I always wanted to enter the great museum in Historic ... and the town hall there.

Building wise, what I miss most in the Matrix is ... a Gothic Cathedral at the north end of Center Park. I want a goddamn Cathedral. The little churches that are only present in Richland and Westview are monotone. No religious buildings in international either (e.g. shrines). >_<

I still think it is a new district/expansion of an existing district, I think it would be a huge waste if Rarebit and co created this for it not to be a genuine part of the city.

Edit: Not only Rarebit created this SMILEY
