Yeah, how the heck did you get there?
#36300388113 01/16/2008 16:16:01 Re:Image Retrieval - January 16, 2008
Well, I'm more interested in seeing more of the area that the barge is in, like the structures under the bridge.  Either way, it's nice to see an expansion to the city, even if it turns out to be a small one.

Anyone else think it's amazing how Rarebit had hidden more than half the epicness of each shot in the non-full versions shown in the news posts?
#36300388120 01/16/2008 16:22:35 Re:Image Retrieval - January 16, 2008
It's still strange to me that people are loving the barge. Perhaps it's nostalgia...

I admit I wasn't around for the assassin events, so to me it's just a rubbish barge, i.e. a small boat with rubbish on it...
Like Shinryu.. I'm more interested in the surrounding area and if any of that is new and explorable...

*Explodes.*

This has got to be completely new, or at least nowhere we've seen before. We've seen the barge, sure, but it's never been surrounded by half-completed bridges and high walls. This is gonna be cool, whatever it is. SMILEY

Who's working on this, anyway? Is it just Rare, or does Dracomet have a hand in this too? HCFrog back? SMILEY A new addition to the team?

And what's all this nonsense about it being underwater? It's clearly a barge floating on a river, with bridges running across it. The water level itself may be low, sure, but none of it's under water. SMILEY

But most importantly: the shoes aren't offending my sight! SMILEY

I do hope there is a new area to explore, new exiles/characters to learn about, new NPCs to fight.

It also seems that every wednesday until this is patched, we are going to be teased with a little bit more SMILEY

#36300388133 01/16/2008 16:36:54 Re:Image Retrieval - January 16, 2008
I'm pretty confident this is a separate world (in game terms--not story), meaning it's like a district--downtown, richland/westview, international, sakura, etc...

It's not physically connected to any part of the world.  If it were added on to a current district (I highly doubt), that district would have to be rebundled, which would result in a big patch, so I think it's safe to say this is another "world".

On another note: looks cool!  I just hope there's no corrupted npcs--ugh.  Then again, this isn't where the Assassin's barge is.  The assassin's barge is off Uriah's wharf, unless for the sake of content, they're changing it.

The Assassin arc is tired, IMHO.
#36300388137 01/16/2008 16:45:48 Re:Image Retrieval - January 16, 2008

I bet adding a whole new district would result in just as large a patch as redoing a district would be.

Wow, this is probably the most excited I've been about a patch since... ever.  (assuming this will be in the next patch in 5 weeks.)

Well, actually it looks like it will be classified as outdoor due to the ability to jump around there, and there seems to be some sort of elevated platform (the bridge?) that will be accessible, judging from the first picture.

Oh, and I'd heard there was some sort of Chinese-themed construct thats pretty pwn as well.

I'm really hoping this is an entirely new area to explore, and not simple eye candy like the org areas.  New hardlines to sync up, new NPCs to take down, mmmmaybe some new "phat lootz" to obtain?  If this is being developed to that extent, it may be safe to think of this as MxO's first official expansion.  But to be on the safe side, I don't want to get my hopes up.  SMILEY
I agree with this ^^ verbatim. This area (or district..?) appears to be a mammoth task that would require development time that I can't imagine Rare alone would have. How did you do it, man? How??

I wouldn't want an unbuff'd assassin mask.  It'd seem pretty pointless to me.

What i'd go for (since it's not a reward item), is a touch'd up Assassin Coat.  Preferabley redesigned in some way as not to be the Assassin's Coat, but something similar to its current design (non-penguin coat ftw!)

coooool!

at first i thought it would be the canal in edgewater or something near it like bayamos stated but the buildings i've never seen in came plus the water is real low so unless some warehouses where converted and we have a drought in the matrix its a newish area...

HOW COOL WOULD IT BE IF THE BARGES MOVED!!!

Like he they floated around idk or even crazier yat probably immpossible take you from DT ede to Bathary like a loading thing sorta like white halls.... just crazy ideas for the development round table i guess.

I think this is why the recent patch was so sparse in content; Rarebit has spent all of this time on this.

And it is so worth it.
#36300388216 01/16/2008 19:20:14 Re:Image Retrieval - January 16, 2008
Sorry to ruin the pure and utter excitement, but I think people are blowing this up bigger then it really is.

As we have seen, it was possible to see and even get on the barge before this through exploits, so the actual model has always been there. IMO, all that is being done is the barge will now be accessible either by some sort of bridge (shot from first Image Retrieval) or some sort of new archivist where you can be teleported, and perhaps some new/difficult NPC's to fight for some drops, possibly a new rare drop. There is no way we're getting anything large like a brand new neighborhood or district.

Still cool, though, I'm glad new areas are still being patched up.

#36300388221 01/16/2008 19:27:20 Re:Image Retrieval - January 16, 2008
I think DevilJ has a point.....If you look closely you can see another bridge in the far distance, kind of the right distance away to be the left-most bridge of the 3 on the atlas, maybe this is the middle bridge that hasn't been accessible until now?

Whatever it is I am totally psyched, only thing I am not looking forward to is the drop potentially being an assassins mask, 1) they are ugly, and 2) like people KEEP saying about rare items....they are rare, don't mess that up.

An Assassin Mask drop could possibly be the worst idea, and a total slap in the face to the people who obtained one after the Death of the Destroyer event.

I dunno, IMO it would be pretty cheesy to have any sort of Assassin-type loot drop. His mask is out of the question, his trench fell in the river, so his handgun (the Assassinator) would be the only viable thing, but perhaps if it is that, you would have to collect gun parts and have a variation of it assembled for you.

Eh, if you were to do it the old way, there wouldn't be anybody there, though. Nor would there be anything for you to really do there, other than take pretty screenshots. I'm guessing if they're implementing it, they're giving it a purpose. What that is remains to be seen, though I do agree that I don't really want to see the Assassin's Mask put into circulation (I doubt it would be), but an Assassin's trench would be awesome.

Well the new landscape/ area gives me a lot of hope - but the bardge as cool as it is - is sort of a bit of a late entry. Either way looks cool, and its not just the texture i should hope since the player is actually on it.
