The game is a lot of fun, but i have to say overall i've been a little unimpressed i find there to be such an open ended world of possibility if you will i lack any sort of sense of what i'm supposed to do, let alone motivation to do it.

I found his dad accidentally before i'd even done the quest for 3 dog, and since then i've just been little more then a wanderer of the wastes with more money and ammunition then i know what to do with - mainly because im a good guy clepto. I also found a shotgun that hits for 55 dmg so i tend to be a bit overpowerd.

Overall however, i have to say i've sort been overwhelmed and under-impressed with the game. It's massive and there's a lot to it, it just sort of doesn't have a sort of drive or vibe that i find stimulating from a game, i tend to turn it on and wander around aimlessly looking for things to do amidst the wastes and just killing the fools that try and attack me.

I will say though, the world being as massive as it is makes exploring quite fun.

Anybody find the crashed alien spaceship yet? I don't think it has a map marker.

Alien ray gun hits for 90+ damage.

Yeah, it's one of the rare items. Just like the T51-b armor in Fort Constantine, and the Medic Prototype armor in the Olney Sewers. And no, it doesn't have a marker.

If you're evil, Regulators come after you. If you're good, Talon Mercs come after you.

Heheh, Three Dog's a bit on the mental side. SMILEY And I've just joined the Regulators, 'cos I'm a goody-two-shoes talkative wimp. Not that I mind using a magnum to bring swift, sweet justice.

Too bad it's not an FM-1500. >_>

You found Tranquility Lane by accident?! Yeah, that'd probably throw a spanner in the works. SMILEY If you followed the main quest you're more likely to pick up quests and locations on your guided wanderings. Gives it a much bigger sense of purpose.

Notes to self:

Avoid Tranquility Lane

Visit Aliens

Yeah.  I've had Talon Mercs after me too.  But I have had ones just called Hitmen.  There orders came from Burke who I killed.  I went to visit Tenpenny Towers and none seemed any the wiser, though I did wipe out some Ghouls for them in the hope of getting access to the Penthouse Suite thats empty.  Any idea how to get that?

Oh, and I haven't stumbled as far along the quest as Darm but I did get to Rivet City before visiting GNR.  Still had all the dialogue options available.  I had no idea who Doctor Li was, but apparently I did. :S

Eh I thought having the final quest end your game was lame.

I put alot of time into trying to set my character up for end game free exploration than that happened.

I gotta admit the combat was rather fun. Running around in full Tesla Armor with a V.2 Shiskabob and the 50% damage pyro increase was epic. That end quest killed it for me though. Really dumb way to end a RPG like this.

I agree, once I was finished with the end quest I was ready to complete all my other unfinished quests.

Definitive endings FTL

Did it block the game afterwards or something though? Or were you able to re-load a save point prior to the last phase so you could finish off everything else before repeating the finale? 'Cos I didn't take any chances and avoided the ending so I could run around the rest of the Wasteland.

Speaking of which, I'm almost finished, I guess. Taking my time with it.

Yeah take your time. Honestly I had no idea it was the final quest. I had always heard that the option presented itself to work for the Enclave so I was like YAY NOW I GET TO WORK FOR MR PRESIDENT!

Than the best I get treated to is a freaking 5 second mentioned cinematic that plays out differently depending on major choices within the game.

Let's just say it blocks the game after you finish it. You could probably reload a previous save though.  If you don't want to end the game, when Sentinal Lyons asks if you are ready... say no... then finish doing what ever quests / exploring you want to finish.

See that just really kills the immersion for me though. I changed my characters hair in Little Lamplight and was adhering to the rule two main quests a day tops than leveling and free exploration and it just feels kind of rushed.

There was no follow up to Mr President and that really bothered me. I thought that was like the start to a new chapter in the game regarding AI high tech computer stuff. The fact that those character models were wasted like that as the base looked so cool was a huge let down.

Eh I know this is a bit of a necro, but it pertains to those who do play fallout, im curious which mods you use (pc version) and if anyone has played the recent DLC's (both versions).

I ony have the xbox version so no mods, I've played Operation: Anchorage which was a nice distration from the main storyline shame I learned how to use power armor before doing it though as it gives you the ability when you complete it. I've not downloaded the Pitt yet, which I will do after the lost and the damned for GTA 4 which I'll do when I can afford it!

#36300553241 04/05/2009 18:12:45 Re:Fallout 3

I really reccommend the pitt once you can get it, it has a good story and a really nice atmosphere, and before you ask, yes you can go back to the pitt at any time.

Man, I keep forgetting to get the expansion packs (or DLC or whatever you want to call them). I missed both their releases somehow and still haven't got Mass Effect's DLC either.

Just got to find a free evening this week, I guess. Should be good to visit the wasteland again!

#36300553319 04/06/2009 11:27:45 Re:Fallout 3

I reccommend if you need a good order to get them in, get The Pitt first. Anchorage isnt bad though, its simply less falloutesque and more combat centered. I, myself, have taken to modding fallout 3 for the pc a tad and its quite fun, I have two mods up already but im pondering for new ideas.
