Well, our pre-order copy got delivered tonight. Had a bit of fun creating a Sarah Palin and introducing her to the radioactive wasteland that the United States has become. Already looted a perfect pair of reading glasses. Just need to find that rifle and the illusion will be complete.

My problem is that I'd have to upgrade my Motherboard... If I have to do that, I may as well get new RAM, video card, and case (since i'd also need a bigger powersupply).

With the baby in the house, I don't see that happening anytime soon

I had that issue when i was thinking about upgrading my Processor too, and then the next day the motherboard packed in anyway. So it was time to invest in a new tower xD

It's so great when a Raider shoots at you, so you shoot away their guns and knives and they kneel before you begging for mercy.

Or when a Raider has his head so far up his you know what you just have to kill him.

ya no wonder.

oh and btw there's an animated movie out there: Deadspace: Downfall, which is the prequel to the game so to speak. the game starts where the movie ends. the latter does have some scenes stolen from Final Fantasy , but overall the voice acting and plot are pretty good for a 6.4/10 on imdb. case pple wanted to know how the story started. HAvent bought it yet but did play my roomates after he to bed like I said I would, I absolutly LOVE the opening up until you 1st leave the vault. Especially the part when your still a baby. So I messed around just a little bit outside the vault, and made it to megaton and it was like 3 am, so I had to stop.

I may call in sick tomorrow and play it all while room mate is at work lol.

Nearly finished the game.

You guys are going to love Liberty Prime.

"EMBRACE DEMOCRACY OR BE ERADICATED!"

Also I thought the game was kind of bad at first. It felt like playing Oblivion: Wasteland addition, but after a while I started to get the feel for the game and later on it gets really good. It sucks at first not being able to shoot worth a darn, but later on you become awesome.

It seems later on though when you get access to the Plasma Rifle, it becomes like the only weapon you'll ever need. Some pretty cool late game weapons though. There's a power glove that's pretty neat. The power armor suits look fantastic (albeit stormtroopers, lol) especially the Tesla version of the Enclave suit. There's a chainsaw dagger, and all kinds of neat-o weapons.

The story is actually pretty well done. It doesn't have an extreme amount of humor, but it's got a few bits here and there. Nothing is more amusing than walking into an underground bunker spewed with blood and dead bodies everywhere with corpses, listening to some 1930's pop songs. lol

#36300516656 11/03/2008 02:38:42 Re:Fallout 3

OK, I think I'll make a start on this tonight. I've been spending my Xbox time completing Fable 2 with a good guy and creating a new character to be evil with. Well she's now evil so I think I can put it down and start Fallout. Only thing I've seen at the moment is the character creation which seems to be quite comprehensive, I love it when you can have that much control over features!

#36300516663 11/03/2008 03:20:50 Re:Fallout 3

Character creation is getting pretty detailed these days. On one hand it's cool having all these options, but on the other the character creation process is getting longer! It took me ages to make my character in Mass Effect.

#36300516965 11/04/2008 05:17:45 Re:Fallout 3

Well I've been exploring the wasteland outside of Megaton, is it just me or is the music taking a very short sample (or probably just the same instrument) from the terminator theme. It reminded me of a mix between terminator and the music in the rebel bases in Crusader: No Remorse.

Love the slo-mo gun play when targetting specific parts, I've not been shooting weapons or legs, I'll have to try that as i've only been making some heads explode!

#36300517058 11/04/2008 10:47:23 Re:Fallout 3

So I recently discovered a cheats list. I then went on a no-clipping/godmode/infiniteammo spree with my Fatman, and killed everything in sight. I then decided to make the rounds at Megaton, Rivet City, and Three Dog's place. It seems if you assassinate Three Dog, the radio station will still play music, but someone will come on and chew you out for killing Three Dog.

Hey I didn't like that he was calling me a @#$hole.

I think it just gets a little excessive nowardays, it's sorta like the game isn't good unless you can customize at least 12 features of your character, Oblivion have like 5-6 features for each part of your face then you can make each of those individual parts have it's individual colour.

Anyway I have a copy being delivered to me right now, unfortunately due to the post office it will probably find it's way to asia before making a round trip through the US finally reaching the UK before getting stuck at customs meaning I have to travel to where it arrived which will probably be as far away in the UK as possible and then I have to pay £50 to have it released.

Ahhh..... good times.

Game looks good from what I've seen of previews anyway and the banter around this place SMILEY

I like the customisation, of course I can spend ages on just that part getting it right! Obviously customisation has a lot more meaning in online games then in single player games. I haven't checked out any options too deeply yet so I can only speak for the default settings but it seems strange that with a comprehensive customisation for your character you can't actually see him/her from the front.

As for the post office, a 2 day free delivery took them only one day to get it delivered to me, which meant I got the game the day before the official release date. So yeah, I've got no qualms with the post office at the moment!

I'm only as far as hunting for 'The Family' who I can't find in any of the locations mentioned, but it seems to be a great game.

#36300517306 11/05/2008 02:23:20 Re:Fallout 3

The Family aren't difficult to find in the slightest. SMILEY If you want a hint, they're underground, in - if memory serves - the closest marker to Arefu.

When I went looking for the family they weren't in either three of the markers I got given by Evan King.  I stumbled upon them by accident after killing 3 Super Mutants in a row.

Well trying not to spoil it for others, the closest marker is to the NE I think but while you do go underground, I find only a couple of ghouls. A quick look around just gave me some rad poisoning in the back room and near the toilets. Also to the east there is another underground area, with a load of radscorpions even a locked cell (lock unpickable, requires a key. Strangly enough the lock withstands a missle blast!) in which I thought the guy I needed to find would be kept but he isn't there or at least I couldn't see him. I'll have to look around properly in closer detail as I can't say I've had a really good session on F3 at the moment .

#36300517310 11/05/2008 03:06:28 Re:Fallout 3

They're definitely in the NE marker (the entrance is between two lonely buildings, right?). Those subway areas can get pretty complex though, gotta check down every track and in every office. Come to think of it, that might have been the time I had to pop down a slightly radioactive drain.

(Holy... For goodness sake. The forum didn't let me use an alternative to 'pop' beginning with 'n' and 'i'. )

Ah, well as I said I'll take a closer look, I know two spots where there is some radiation so I'll look at them both. Thanks!

By the way, is there any way to get a torch? Does the pip boy 3000 (despite it's basic alpha status) have an integrated torch? (or is there a button to turn a light source on?) I've explored a few areas which were pretty dark, even with the game brightened up.

There are two entrances to find the family. If you need a hint send me a pm SMILEY

Also, if your playing on a PC to get a light hold your tab button (pip boy activation key) down and it will turn on.

There's a torch!?  Oh, and I bet it was mentioned in the manual too, which I didn't read. /facepalm I'm always telling people to read the manual...

Then again, the game ain't perfect either. I re-assigned the Pip-Boy key to C (easier to get to on my gamepad thingy), and while that does open it, I still have to press Tab to close it. Nuisance.

I didn't read the manual either SMILEY

I just happened to spot it as one of those helpful hints you get in the loading screens.

#36300517352 11/05/2008 09:23:23 Re:Fallout 3

Wow, I only suggested that it be part of pipboy because it's only logical really, I didn't read the manual either and unless I saw the hint thing or decided to read the manual, I would never have known if there actually was one!

Thanks Virrago!

Oh, and I found their hideaway and completed the quest and everyone was happy in Arefu. I went back to the family to say goodbye and to deliver the agreement decision and on the way out I was faffing about and leaned on my control pad which did something to cause the sentry to attack me. I defended myself (It was probably a better idea to just run I guess, but still...) and killed him. Next visit to Arefu everyone was shooting at me! At that point I was getting used to using grenades so they died too.

Oh well! Got myself irradiated and travelled to the Super-Duper mart for Moira, next up is playing with some landmines! So yeah, been having a laugh!

#36300517354 11/05/2008 09:46:47 Re:Fallout 3

Now I just need to figure out how to pan the camera around on the PC. You can do it with LB and the analog stick on the 360.

I've played a few hours as an evil character and had some fun. I'm trying to complete Moira's quests before taking care of Megaton. Maxing out your Intelligence and getting that extra-skills-per-level perk is great: 24 skill points per level to add.

My roommate skipped most of his classes and already played through 40 hours as a good character. The main quest was a little meh. I'd recommend exploring and side quests instead of main quest, just to make sure you don't beat the game too fast. He ended up beating it despite trying not to, not realizing he was already at the end of the game. The ending also felt really pointless, with nothing but a few sepia tone still images and some voiceover. Plus, not much variation in endings despite how you choose to do the ending. I'll leave it at that.

My other main gripe is the female character customization. Most of the female hairstyles involves baldness and splotchy bits of hair here and there. I didn't take a head count, but it felt like maybe 7 semi-normal hairstyles and 10 mangy ones, including one called "Mange". There's quite a few nice moustache and beard options for males but hardly any decent hairstyle options for females. Additionally, with the female face models, almost all of them appear to need to shave their upper lips. Between Mass Effect and Fallout 3, I'm starting to get the feeling these game developers don't see many women.

I've only worked on the first chapter for Moira. Not sure how many there are, but I'll probably get back to her odd little errands at some point. Just been having a nice little chat with Linderman from Heroes. (I love it when they get good, well-known talent in to do the voices).

Beware, you're getting pretty close to the end of the game and won't be able to back-track.

If you're into exploring the map/doing side-quests like I am. I'd suggest getting to level 20 and getting the Explorer Perk. Then you'll get the locations of every spot on the map. It's how I figured out where those trees were, as a few more interesting locations such at the Outcast's Home-base, the Nuka-Cola fanatic's house, the Republic of Dave, the White House, Lincoln Monument, Dukov's Place, Paradise Falls, Fort Constantine (home of some really awesome Power Armor) etc.

And if anyone was wondering how you eventually get access to power armor, just do the main quest. When you're eventually let into the Citadel (Brotherhood of Steel's base), they'll teach you how.

Would just like to add that I am really enjoying this game.  Loving the old style music too.  Been on it all day yesterday and I have yet to leave Megaton in search of Galaxy News Station.

Just like to say that Fire Ants are a absolute *****.  I partially gave up on that quest and just ran through them all.

And has anyone else had Hitmen after them yet?  I had some pop up as I came out of a railway station.  Note came from a B at Tenpenny Tower.  Which is odd considering I killed him after I ratted him out.  That was a bad move.  First victim of my actions.  Well, unless you include all those people I've potential lied to in that book.

Figured I might be getting close, so I was about to explore some of those places you mentioned (a couple of which are already on my map - can't remember why). Got a load of pending quests to finish too. That Explorer perk sounds handy, but I'm only at level 14 at the moment.
