Maybe it's just the angle at which the picture is taken.
I agree. Just looks massive. I guess we'll see tomorrow, or whenever the first one gets done (which should be tomorrow SMILEY )

Pretty much all of my thoughts have already been posted by others, but in a nutshell:

  • Wow, it's big... too big, IMO.
  • Having it on a timer is kind of silly, but at the same time, as Vinia's said, if it wasn't half of the population would be running around with swords on their back all the time, which would be even sillier.
  • If this can be done, then are holsters or similar things possible?  (For me, I'd like the body strap holsters a la Neo in the Lobby scene).
  • I might grind for it once I've got the chapter clothes I want and I've seen just how bad/good it looks on others.  Definitely not an OMG I NEED THAT NOW!!! thing
#36300353359 11/14/2007 23:01:53 Re:Image Retrieval - November 14, 2007

The lack of permanance immediately kills any chance it had of being an "OMG I need to have that now!" item, since for about the same grind, you can get a physical item which will not deactivate out of the blue and... honestly, how ridiculous would it look to have a sword on your back for two minutes, only to have it disappear? Meh.

I don't care that everyone would be running around with it - it's a fad, just like the Area K was. For the love of God, you can't tell me you didn't see everyone and their brother with a flippin' Area K the first month or so after that was released, but now it's disipated. The same would happen with a perpetual sword.

Dunno... I just really think it sounds absurd to have a sword on your back that vanishes at a given time.

This is another one of those things that are ALMOST perfect as long as the devs would listen to us on the perma active thing.
#36300353393 11/15/2007 01:23:52 Re:Image Retrieval - November 14, 2007
I'll get the perma and a normal one, then have the 2 crossed on my back, that's what I always wanted <3

And yes, the size should be fixed, looks weird. It doesn't matter if it's slimmer, you can always extend the blade (like Sephirots sword from FFVII). mhm... maybe have 2 versions to get? One from left to right and right to left over the back? Maybe another two (left and right) sitting at the belt, where they normally would be?

This pretty much tells why we need more quests for items, have it be guns or clothing.

EDIT: Forgot to give my opinion. lol

This isn't something I'll waste time getting I think, just like the Red Eye.

I think I prefer it having a timer. If it didn't, I guarentee that everyone and their alts would be running around with swords. And that's uncool.

As it stands, this is still a unique and pwnful device, if used properly. Imagine the Furious Angel video pwnage... with the FAs all wielding swords. The screenshot ops, the video ops, et cetera, makes this a clever and very useful item, and I can't wait to see how some people use it.
#36300353457 11/15/2007 04:38:08 Re:Image Retrieval - November 14, 2007
Just make it a long timer, please.

This is still pretty wicked, but if it's a standard timer like the other event stuff, it'd suck the big one.
#36300353596 11/15/2007 07:13:42 Re:Image Retrieval - November 14, 2007

I had an idea regarding the timer:

The normal archives version should be moved so it goes diagonally across the lower back from left to right.  Then the special Live Event version can go diagonally from right to left creating crossed blades.  Both can be perpetual, only few people will get the twin blades and as already mentioned, anything new will become a fad and everyone will gain it, but given time, only the die hard users will carry on using it.

I know I wouldn't use it much at this point in time anyway as I dont think it will look good with my current costume.

Wow that is certainly a different reward! I guess we'll never know what to expect from these, which is great! Scary looking too! Don't cut yourself if you get one! SMILEY

I love the style and imagery associated with ninja's, samurai and their paraphenalia but the Matrix is supposed to be a convincing simulation of a typical 90's city, so a timer is very much a nescessary evil in this case.....

Something like this is what I'm talking about:
Archived image unavailable: swordedug5.html
- Void
I was web surfing all over the internet for a shot like that , yeah I noticed it too. The positioning of the sword is too straight (kind of like how Blade from the movies would wear his). Swords like that are usually carried on the back at a slant to make it easier to grab and unsheathe (like the illustration Void has) .

This idea is awesome.

It is made of win and pwn.

...While the sword is a mere visual effect, and not for actual combat use, it lends an imposing presence to the wearer.........
dammit i want to fight with the sword like a japanese samurai,SOE make the sword for fighting not for decoration!!!

Swords are lame.  Sorry, but I don't understand our obsession with the katana.  It's just a sword.  And the Desert Eagle is just a gun.  There's better versions of both.

^ about sums it up
#36300354000 11/15/2007 17:03:33 Re:Image Retrieval - November 14, 2007
Very cool, I was expecting just another variation of code flying out of my body, but this was a nice surprise. Although I do agree that the sword is a little TOO big.. I mean, it's absolutly massive. Void's sword would have been much better, or the size of Niobe's sword from the cinematic, but I guess you go with what you have.

I'm actually glad this is on a timer like the others. I mean, if this was perpetual, you'd see pretty much everyone with a huge sword on their back all the time. Anyway, I have a feeling a Perpetual War Sword will be the most sought after event reward now barring the FM-1500.
#36300354117 11/15/2007 22:11:12 Re:Image Retrieval - November 14, 2007
Got my sword today and the timer on it is awful! It only lasts a few minutes, then when it wears off you have have to wait at least a few more minutes just to activate it again.Very lame.
Timer really needs to get fixed on this item.
#36300354125 11/15/2007 22:34:49 Re:Image Retrieval - November 14, 2007
