I haven't had time to go all through it. But what I've read seems to explain more of the history between Kate and Brian and give some insight on the events leading up to Algorithm Black. Kate really loved Brian, but Brian ignored her because of his work with The Algorithm. And while this was happening Everette (Escroc) was seducing her with an exciting life she could never have experienced otherwise. I haven't found anything that's definitely anything like a clue or puzzle, but there's a lot left.
There was a green post-it note folded up inside as a bookmark. It has something written on it, but I'm not sure if it means anything and even if it was meant to be there.

I knew something was bothering me about that.

I don't know what translation Phluff had, but it does seem rather ambiguous. I found this translation in the King James:

And he (Jacob) dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

Guess it won't hurt to check both.
