Whenever I click on a trial button the new popup window just appears with an offset login prompt. THen an error in scripts occurs. When continued, It just says you have logged, please log out when you are done. No options to allow a trial or anything... I've submitted it to the SoE Luancher forum but no response as of yet.

Well, now that I'm set to invisible (Yay 9mmfu/Rarebit for confirmation SMILEY ) it doesn't load any friends at all. While that's much more beneficial, I think there should be a way to import a character's/RSI's friend list, instead of manually adding them if you do choose to go Invisible.

Like, if I want my list from Orexis, I can load that account, and if I also want to check my alt on Syntax, or for some silly reason, my other alt on Recursion, I can load theirs as well--since there's obviously the capability of logging in multiple servers/games at once.

Unless there's an option that i'm missing somewhere. SMILEY

Couldyou give me some more specifics of exactly how you're going through the process, from when you login (with whatever account ~ is it your main or a recently created account) right up until you have this issue?

I haven't tried loading up multiple characters on the same game, yet you can load up different games at the same time through the launcher if you wish (and if your PC can handle it)

Yeah there must be a "master list" somewhere because I haven't had SWG installed since the NGE and it listed all my buddies.

Yep, the Station Launcher stuff takes the character information off each of the games servers to compile your buddy lists I believe (scary what they know off a little Station account name isn't it? SMILEY

Ok, I'll give you a rundown, as my friend told me about the problem and It happens to me also.

The Station Launcher loads and it presents me with the log-in. I log in and get the MMO buttons, all light blue saying Try Activate or Buy, depending on the game. I click MxO and a new window pops up. This window takes about a minute to load up the contents. The window then presents me with a Station login prompt. So I log in (again) and am presented with a script Error box:

Line: 7
Character: 1
Error: Syntax Error
Code: 0
Url: https://auth.station.sony.com/loginWithoutTicket

do you want to continue.......

clicking yes/no

'This page contains insecure items.... do you want to continue...'

Click yes then it comes up with a white Station generic page that just says;

Central Authentication Service

You have successfully logged into the Central Authentication Service.

For security reasons, please Log Out and Exit your web browser when you are done accessing services that require authentication!

Nothing else to do but close the window and try again...

I am using Firefox, could it be that interfering with the launcher?

Well, what I was saying was, you load up one game, it loads up every single character in that game, along with their buddy lists... and it's just silly to have the same person listed X amount of times, because each character has them on their list.

If possible, I just want to be able to choose which "one" character's list i'd like to load into the launcher.

Ah I get ya!

Simple answer: No. Sorry SMILEY

It's something they're seeing that people have some issues with as the friends chat just does it right now without telling you.

I read somewhere on the main station forums board that this is going to be going through a change during beta, so you click to what you want included BEFORE the chat does it all automatically for you.

Try doing the following, as this seems to fix some of the more general issues but god only knows if it'll work for your problem:

delete archive.txt

if you installed with default path it will be here:

C:\Program Files\Sony\Station\Station Launcher\LaunchPad2

you will lose your preferences and it will not remember you

That's a general reset of the Launcher information.

Click Options -> Update New Characters and that will pull the details down again, just be prepared to click no a few times due to the unresponsive script messages.

(thats the same problem I had)

Hi, pretty sweet writeup.

One note - you can set it up so that your more stealthy characters stay invisible each time you launch Friends - just uncheck the 'visible' box next to their name in Options|Preferences|Friends Network|Privacy.  You can also set the visibility default for newly created characters.

If you'd like a more global ability to decide whether to go visible each time you launch Friends, you can set it so your characters stay invisible for a set delay after Friends is launched.  Go to Options|Preferences|Friends Network and look at the 'when I connect, set status to' options.  One of them is 'visible after a delay of X seconds'.  The delay gives you a chance to use the dropdown when you open Friends to stay invisible for a that session.  Or let the delay expire, and you'll go visible automatically.

Enjoy the beta!

-Mas

By the way, when you log into the "Friends" thing for offline chat, it will show all of the MXO characters on your account as online. If you don't want them showing, toggle the thingy in the upper right corner of the Friends window to "Invisible."

EDIT: However, it will default back to "Visible" each time you log in. =P

#36300339431 10/18/2007 13:14:42 Re:STATION LAUNCHER
Hi,

You can set that as a preference - go to Options|Preferences|Startup/Shutdown and select 'Exit Station Launcher when I play a game'.

If you want to more easily close Friends to save memory, you can turn on:
Options|Preferences|Friends Panel|When Closing Friends Panel 'Also disconnect me from Station Friends Network'

BTW, my favorite (but unrelated) option is:
Options|Preferences|General|'Don't display game EULAs unless they're new'

#36300339452 10/18/2007 14:28:51 Re:STATION LAUNCHER
It has potential, but it is not ready. The communication with the server needs to be looked at. The friends panel locks up consistently for me. It seems like it is trying to load all the data in one massive hit. It would function better if the data was broken up into chunks, or organized in a different manner. Why must it load all characters immediately? It is unwise to make such a large query in one go. By default, Flash will display the script timeout warning after 15 seconds of waiting for a response from a routine. It usually happens during data requests and for loops. It doesnt necessarily mean that the routine has failed, just that it is taking longer than 15 seconds.

That's why they call it a beta release my friend. It's still in testing.

If you want to give feedback, pop it up on these boards, the developers will work on it (I hope)

In Flash CS3 the default script timeout can be changed. As a quick fix you can try increasing it, but it would be best to break up the data download as much as possible.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR EXISTING SUBSCRIBERS USING STATION LAUNCHER

Alright, the exact specifics of the Station Launcher "update" to your files even though you've already got the game is coming clearer.

It creates new versions of a lot of the existing game files.

If you've done things like me, which are to go and create your own hotkeys and things, you'll need to backup your current options.cfg (and if you use it useropts file) which are found in your main game directory.

More details will come through about things like this as the devs get more feedback, so keep it coming.

#36300340043 10/19/2007 20:09:36 Re:STATION LAUNCHER
I decided to show the problem myself and my friend are having by showing the flow of action in screenshot form.

These have been reduced in scale for speed but you can still clearly make out what is happening;
  1. Station Login
  2. Station Game Choices
  3. New Station Window when Selecting Any MMO not just MxO
  4. New Login Prompt
  5. Script Error
  6. End Result
I hope this helps those who require assistance.

#36300347093 11/02/2007 12:06:40 Re:STATION LAUNCHER
Okay well I downloaded and tried this today, and it was nice to know what my 'friends' I used to play with do now, however when I've been through 30+ different character names, and many of them having an extensive friends list, which have many duplicates, it can get extreamly slow.

Something I do like, was that someone I aint spoke too for 2years, said "Hello, haha long time no see" and it spoke through the character that he had me down on his buddy list, nice feature, however its the thing that makes this extreamly tedious to use at the moment.

Also I get the following prompts every so often, I take it, it is still trying to load from their database or whatnot.
"A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player 9 to run slowly. If it continues to run your computer may become unrepsonsive. Do you wish to abort this script 'Yes' 'No'"

Okay to share my experiances even more, the friends UI, now freezes up 100%, cant scroll up and down, change the tabs up the top or nout. Is it possible to have had too many friends that it breaks the launcher?

Although I am very much looking forward to the ease of free trials for all SOE MMOs and very much looking forward to chatting out-of-game with everyone in-and-out of game, I will wait to adopt this until I am forced to.  Why?  Because I have 1650 people on my Friends' list and I sincerely hope I don't have to wait up to an hour or more for the lists to load every time I want to play MxO!  They need to fix this before the official release.  If they try that "you'll have to thin out your list" approach there will be big trouble.  SOE: If you want to play, you'll have to ditch your friends.  Not going to happen.
#36300355372 11/18/2007 12:56:01 Re:STATION LAUNCHER
I've noticed these issues using the station launcher :

1. If i jack out using the jack out thingy (which makes you wait and you appear as static), the next time you log on using the station launcher you will not be at that place you jacked out on, but at the latest hardline youve used.
2. If i exit the matrix using the loading area X button or by right clicking a hardline, then clicking exit, the station launcher will bypass the loading area and i will appear ingame at the latest hardline ive used.

So the station launcher somehow makes the game always skip loading area at game start, and directly goes to the latest hardline you have used (not the nearest one either, once i ran across town and jacked out on the other end, but still appeared at the last hardline ive USED)

Not using the station launcher, everything works the way it should be.
#36300355394 11/18/2007 13:35:36 Re:STATION LAUNCHER
That's the same behaviour as using the normal MxO launcher but with your username specified in the shortcut (i.e. "C:\The Matrix Online\launcher.exe" -user myUsername -pwd myPassword -char Procurator ).

Was there somewhere in the Station launcher where you specified your character? I've yet to try the Station launcher myself, so I don't know.

The fact that you appear at the last used hardline instead of where you typed /jackout (if you did use that option) is an issue with MxO, and one I've complained about before.
#36300355487 11/18/2007 16:53:49 Re:STATION LAUNCHER
How does the CLIENT have an effect on where you spawn ? Shouldn't this be serverside ?

Doing the user pwd char is not the same to what the station launcher is doing, using usr pwd char will actualy show your username and password being typed out, and perform the authentication, with the launcher it doesn't do that.

In the station launcher you only log using your station user and pass, you choose the character after you launched mxo (same as normal)
#36300355498 11/18/2007 17:11:33 Re:STATION LAUNCHER
Well, all the launcher is doing is telling MxO how you're logging in. MxO then makes the decision as to whether to drop you in the loading area, your last hardline or where you typed /jackout.

All I was saying is that the behaviour you described (viz. appearing at a hardline despite using /jackout) is what happens when you use the -char option. The Station launcher must be doing whatever the MxO launcher does to tell the game to dump you at a hardline, but the MxO launcher itself is still making you select the character.

It's just SOE faffing about. *Shrug.*
#36300355503 11/18/2007 17:22:25 Re:STATION LAUNCHER
The client shouldn't be specifying whether to show the loading area or to jack in at a hardline or on some location in the world
If that was possible you could just port whereever you want by altering some memory locations when the client was starting
OMG SPLOITZ LOL
#36300355625 11/19/2007 00:37:03 Re:STATION LAUNCHER
Switches people, switches.  Proc is right.  The Station Launcher calls the MxO launcher and when it does, it uses the switches which tell MxO to bypass the loading area and any previous /jackout location and start at the last used hardline.  I have ten icons in a quick launch bar, one uses a manual log-in and character selection and sends me to the Loading Area or a previous /jackout location.  The others specify an RSI and auto-log the account and RSI and place it at the last used Hardline for that RSI.  Since the /jackout command and a manual log-in are often used to re-enter areas which would take a long time to get to, like the bottom of a Hideout, this issue will have to be resolved before the Station Launcher is released.  Otherwise, there will be a revolt of people who still expect to start in the Loading Area or last /jackout location.

Good thing is that they do know that this is an existing issue so they will be working on it (i reported this very thing a while back.)

It is a feature that they were thinking of having with the launcher and they thought they'd removed it in this beta but both ourselves, EQ and EQII are having this "auto load into game world" issue.

As far as I'm aware there's still a fair time this will be in beta because they want to have all things like this sorted beforehand (obviously).

If you do want to give them feedback they really, really, really go and say it to them on the boards here. Equally, if you wish to report a bug, pop it onto here.

Urgh!

As this is something different to the above information I'll pup this here.

Seems imageshack is being... well nasty to me about some of the images in my initial walkthrough of Station Launcher.

What I'll do is go through this whole thing tomorrow, clean up my image issues oh and then put some updates up about things now that the beta has been running for a little bit.

I probably should have posted this earlier.

We believe the issue of the station launcher not properly initializing the character profile folder (where to look for it) should be fixed. So the old location for all your character's hotbar setups and what not should now be back to normal.

Alright 9mmfu, thanks for the update!

I'm going to be having a proper look through any old issues that were posted up on here to see if they still exist or not but things certainly seem to be a hell of a lot smoother on it now to say the least

Still waiting to hear if the "big buddy list = major memory hog + major launcher lag" bug has been fixed.  Can you close the Launcher once the game starts, to free up all the memory it hogs when you have a huge Buddy List?
