This is not a joke.

I was using Kung-Fu, and Interlocked a Rifleman NPC from a distance.  Instead of sliding towards them per normal, I nearly fell out of my chair when my RSI proceeded to execute the backflip vault kick from CR1.  It 'must' have been a one-in-a-million glitch, because I haven't seen this animation in over a year, since CR2 was implemented.  Developers, is work progressing to reimplement some of these older animations?

It happened too quickly for me to get a screenshot, but I know what I saw.

This patch was much larger than usual, could they have slipped in some CR1 animations as Dev only to test them a little but one bugged for you to see?  =O

WOW! It would be nice if they brought some of the pre-CR-2 animations: I miss the old shoot-with-the-gun-held-under-one-arm animation that I remember from when I was still using just handguns. And there was one that looked a lot like Trinity's scorpion kick, that was an end move of sorts.
#36300311348 08/26/2007 16:21:48 Re:I Just Did a Wallkick

Two questions.

1) was it off a wall or just in mid air?

2) where were you when you did it?

1. To be honest with you, I couldn't tell exactly.  If I remember correctly, the enemy was in the process of phasing through a recently-closed door so as to regain Interlock positioning with myself, but it was from a distance.  Instead of closing along with the enemy, my RSI did some sort of vault kick to close the distance.  It might have been off the wall; I couldn't tell.  It happened really quickly because bullet time triggered, but the bullet time itself was off, which just led to the animation happening super fast rather than slowing it down.  I am absolutely certain that I have not seen this animation since CR1, whether it was actually off the wall or no.

2. I was in a mission area somewhere in Richland.  It might have been Tabor Park, but I can't be certain.

Rarebit did say (this at the fan faire) that there's like 3 places (but no mention on where they are) as to where you can do a Wallkick. so If you'd remember where it took place coordinate wise... that would help.

My map wasn't open at the time, and I haven't the slightest clue where I was 'exactly.'  I was in a mission area near a pair of double doors when the animation hit.

Why not make is a special animation or at least give us the coords rare!

God...yes... and you were using Kung fu correct? Could you perhaps make a stick figure diagram of how you were positioned, and tell us what tactic you were on?

That was Walrus, and he was eh confused. As far as we know wall kicks do not and have not worked under CR2.0. If Vanil got one then I suppose he's probably Neo.
#36300312148 08/27/2007 19:27:57 Re:I Just Did a Wallkick
I've noticed that recently, I've been having more Npc's go through a wall when interlocking. Many times, my players jumps an insane distance (or the NPC does) to rejoin the interlock distance, and the move plays at the same time. You may have just been lucky that the long jump looked like something else, although I wouldn't be surprised if the odd situation caused something weird to happen. The wallkicks were removed cuz of timing difficulties I think; that would explain bullettime being off.

I was using Speed.  I'll try to get around to trying to come up with some sort of graphic to explain it.

Admittedly, you could be right.  Like I said, it happened 'super' fast, which is why I couldn't get a screenshot of it, but I'm pretty d*mn certain it was one of the Martial Arts distance-closing animations from CR1.

It is a real shame you didn't get any screenies, but I guess like so many surprising things that happen thinking about hitting F12 only occur after the event!

It'd be really nice if there were some added animations and Rare's post is an attempt to cover them up... but it's been quite a few days since the patch, if there were legit new or reintroduced animations shouldn't a few people have seen them by now?

I suppose that someone could've not gotten the memo, but Bay is probably right. I doubt we have enough content on average in the first place to warrant such a thing, as players are willing to take any bone that we can get. =/

#36300312471 08/28/2007 08:27:59 Re:I Just Did a Wallkick
If you were using Kung Fu I doubt it was a wall kick, the Kung Fu wall kick is where you would turn around, run up the wall, flip over and then kick the opponent.

The one you're describing sounds a lot like Karate which is jumping, kicking off from the wall and then kicking your opponent in the face.

I might have had Karate as my enabled combat style at the time.  I might have used Machinegun Kick or something of that nature, which would have put me into Karate.

#36300312724 08/28/2007 15:57:14 Re:I Just Did a Wallkick

I can confirm it happening since CR2. Last week, I was running Standard missions with a few newer players to get them up in lvl. Did it during one of the phases of an Assassination mission in interlock, using Kung Fu and Speed, against Tactical Security in the corner of a room in Tabor Park.

I was a bit surprised as well seeing as it rarely seemed to happen during CR1 even.

#36300312888 08/28/2007 23:03:53 Re:I Just Did a Wallkick

Four words for this thread.

Interlock Time Animation Sequence

4 Seconds, it's what matters.

#36300312936 08/29/2007 03:28:06 Re:I Just Did a Wallkick

So why did it vanish in the 1st place? ok they updated to CR2.0 but didnt the animations stay? or did they have to do new ones for CR2.0?

I didnt have the pleasure of using CR1.0 so i have never seen these animations but i would say that wall kicks and "wire-fu" are part of what makes the matrix the matrix.

#36300312944 08/29/2007 03:37:57 Re:I Just Did a Wallkick
For some reason they don't work under CR2.0 or at least they're not supposed to. If they can be brought back that's great because I only ever saw one once. I remember I was using karate with the power tactic in a stair well on the roof of a building (the walls are close together there).
#36300313012 08/29/2007 06:10:17 Re:I Just Did a Wallkick
Wow, you must of been bloody lucky to do one. Shame they're not in-game still. Was such a cool thing!

I'll emphasize: "new players". It was the typical power lvl'ing routine with them hiding out in the elevator. But thanks for the vote of confidence anyway.

I think that because of the way CR2 is, for example, fighting and NPC's shooting through walls ect. I think the system doesn't allow to use a wall for running. Plus I don't think they were ever changed for the 4 second timer
#36300314353 08/31/2007 05:34:53 Re:I Just Did a Wallkick

I always used to nail the wall-kick with Karate during CR1.  I guess it's time to try a repro.  It is harder to be near the wall in CR2 but I'm going to give this a shot.

The thing with Wallkicks were most of the time they were in bullet time and thereby went REALLY fast. In actuality, the attack is about the same as when your character flips on one hand and shoots the opponent, which is a speed single handgun finisher.

Fights never go near walls anymore because people don't take the time to really appreciate a duel. On Recursion I see long fights all the time where one measly wall kick would change boring duels to "*CENSORED* that was secks!". Too bad we can't earn special abilities, like pounce. Just redpill stuff, like Hyperstomp. Jump up in interlock and stomp on your opponent's head >.> I don't know about you guys, but if I could do that, I would call Dracomet my god (since he's the only one who codes this stuff.)

CR2 took the awesome out of fighting to make it less buggy.
