#36300249840 05/31/2007 12:32:47 Update 52 Discussion

This thread is for discussion of Update 52, which is currently scheduled to release on Thursday, May 31, 2007.
#36300249843 05/31/2007 12:34:31 Re:Update 52 Discussion
"disaster" is fairly accurate at this point.
#36300249847 05/31/2007 12:37:00 Re:Update 52 Discussion
not on all servers.
#36300249848 05/31/2007 12:38:23 Re:Update 52 Discussion

Cinematic - best handdrawn ever, truly epic

First crit (machine) - not bad.

Luggables - cool, people seem to like them.

Corrupted Quest - Broken, difficult, tedious, and boring. :

  • Difficulty in getting spawns
  • Difficulty in killing said spawns
  • Difficulty in collecting drops from aforementioned spawns (Nonstackable items)

last i heard it was gimped on 2 out of 3. and if you don't have any level 30+ characters on the one that works, you're out of luck at that point. if you only have one level 30+ character, your bad luck just went up a few notches because there's even less chance of being able to do something new quest related.
#36300249858 05/31/2007 12:51:47 Re:Update 52 Discussion
My two cents,

Loved the cinematic,
Zion mission ended on a bit of a cliffhanger that's got me wondering what next (inspite of my current indoor lag issues from this poorly built nVidia card),

Luggables are working pretty good, don't think I've gotten any kind of glitch with them yet,

Corrupted Spawns, not bad (I'm on Syntax) as far as people complaining about the system, it amazes me. The volume of kills and difficulty of killing that level 100 thing strikes me as no different than the whole Taskmaster wash rinse repeat for the Area K at relatively the same difficulty. The only real difference is the minispawns scale to your level, ergo it's slightly easier for the lower levels to get involved. C'Mon people stop giving the devs flak over this, get a team together and go for it. Want to throw some PvP action in there to make it more of a challenge, someone grab a luggable. My only gripe thus far is the lack of stacking for the decaying code, which I assume is either going to be addressed in a hotfix or dealt with later. For the time being just fire the things off in a mail to yourself.

Seriously, I just don't understand this community some days...

Devs, I give you a thumbs up for this one.

What Star said and we need more inventory room i think. The Zion critical was very interesting indeed.

Not to be repititive but vector has not seen a spawn.
#36300249862 05/31/2007 12:56:40 Re:Update 52 Discussion
Wasteland Corrupted Encounter :

  • Devs need to fix this. Every player is mad with this thing. I haven't see so many topics for the same thing.
  • You should make it like the holiday event (Missions) for the Wasteland Corrupted and like Halloween Event for the corrupted. It will be better for everyone.
  • If you do what i say in 3rd then you have to spawn Corrupted every 5 mins for every player.
  • Or you can lower the lvl of Wasteland Corrupted. It is too difficult to kill.
  • Or you can spawn these things every 10 mins in a different location (Of course inside Bathary Row)

Everyone is mad about the whole thing. Do something. Because many of us wait for the next patch to see if they are going to stay or not. With this way they are leaving. And i am one of the many that want to keep this game alive.

Listen to us. Do something.
#36300249881 05/31/2007 13:35:01 Re:Update 52 Discussion
Hey be happy they are not level 255 like they were during the Assassin event. Besides the long wait on spawn timers I think every thing is going well.
#36300249891 05/31/2007 14:03:35 Re:Update 52 Discussion
I can't speak for how the new features have been implemented as I can't get in-game, but the update itself rocks my decent excuse for a world. Assuming everything works (which, uh, it looks like it doesn't - but it'll be fixed soon, I'm sure!), we've got a new quest, new luggables (that was a nice surprise), a simply brilliant cinematic (seriously, seeing that Sentinel swarm made me so proud to be a Machinist) and some very sexy bugfixes. Finally we can loot those idiot NPCs who get stuck in doorways!

Let's just hope they fix the quest issues. After that, everything'll be just dandy.

heh i was kidding around. you don't have ot be 30+, i'm 25 and get lvl 28 spawns. you just cant use the rewards yet. i have 5 codes though.

Anyone notice dual pistol execution's range has been pumped? I swear it wasnt the same as barrage before.

Its scary when things are getting changed without patch notes.

Alright, lets all agree that Luggables are the pwn.

Corrupted quest will be fine once they fix the timers.
#36300249991 05/31/2007 16:09:23 Re:Update 52 Discussion
My overall thoughts is as follows:-

Cinematic

Fantastic, one of the best we have ever had.

Luggables

I loved these, as it adds pvp in other areas on carebear servers at least. It's also got good buffs.

Corrupter

Heap Of *poop*

Choppers

Man looks like we went back to the 70s with these things.

Commandos Gone

Shame, like all enemies I will miss em, especially the Elites.

Smoke Bomb and Vanish need an invisibility belt.

I'm not a spy so not really anything to me.

Machinegun Fist Combo now removes one buff.

Good fix here, needed this one for a while.

Area Heals now only work with team

Another good update, I hate 50 peeps getting heals in pvp.

Overall a neat and tidy patch, I have not gone into details about corrupted but what I said is true.

Hmm... I do recall not having to be as close to use it as before...

Anyway, my thoughts are this:

FIX VECTOR PLZKTHXBAI.

Oh, yeah, Recursion, too. Please. Kay? Thanks. Bye.

I love seeing a normal sky again... now only if it would stop being cloudy and rainy every time I log in.

Since nobody else has bothered to say it, for whatever reason:

Dear MxO Development Team,

Thank you.  Thank you
for making the corruptor spawn times so infrequent.  Thank you for making the corruptor quest operate in such a way that prevents everyone from attaining all the high level gear by the end of the day of the patch.

I look forward to more stuff like this in the future.
#36300250045 05/31/2007 17:56:47 Re:Update 52 Discussion

  • Cinematic - Awesome Stuff there, they really bring the story alive..
  • Patch Missions ETC. - In general i was sceptical at first, it seems there were a lot of thread's popin up about the timers bugging but. it is a pain to have to wait i guess. but i am sure it will be fixed in time with a hotfix. Once the Npc's actually spawned i found it a lot of fun killin em ... the Level 100's will be a pain to kill but i think its the way it should be. having new items easily obtainable is a waste of time because it kills the content in a few days.
  • Luggables - I like the luggables, There seems to be a bit of competition in getting them too.. which is nice to see as it add's a new element to PvP. I liked the use of the different effects on them too...
  • T3H SKY ! - It was like jacking into a new matrix lol.. the Red sky was pretty cool for a while but made everything a little dark. its nice to see the Full colours of the game again.
  • Helicopters - lol old skool right there.. pretty cool looking though.. the look like something that a TV station would have.

Over all the patch may have a bug or two in it, but its Expected really.. anything and everything can go wrong. and it never goes wrong till the last moment.
#36300250057 05/31/2007 18:25:56 Re:Update 52 Discussion
I like the luggables.

I wanted to like the Corrupted stuff...however its just tedious. The poor drop rate+massive amounts of inventory needed [and I dont mean 400, I mean 40], its just..bleh.
#36300250069 05/31/2007 18:45:00 Re:Update 52 Discussion
On the subject of helicopters, there's a bit of a problem. Even though the General's choppers are gone, the "The System is a Lie" pamphlets continue to appear.
#36300250093 05/31/2007 19:15:32 Re:Update 52 Discussion

It says the System is a lie?  I thought it said the Sunsets were a lie.  Hmm...

Cervacius wrote:

It did, and once the sky got redder, it changed.

Dracomet said they are working on the fix that makes it so that these decaying codes stack.

However, I am still getting Corrupted Code Frags, which are decaying codes with MESSAGES from the Death of the Destroyer event that can not be traded but can be uploaded or lost after reconstruction.

#36300250122 05/31/2007 19:45:25 Re:Update 52 Discussion

I am posting my disagreement with the non-Team Patcher area heals being restricted to team members.  Restore Group 1.0 and Physician should not be affected because they are not under that segment of Patcher.   When will area heals affect sims?

Uhm... Complete Corrupters in the Assassin piece of story were level 255, and, like the current level 100 ones, require you to spray them with insecticide to damage them.

Outstanding work SMILEY

  • Cinematic is the best so far.
  • Mission: Nice plot but a bit short (long crits FTW SMILEY)
  • Luggables: Great - adds a bit of a CTF component to the game SMILEY
  • Corrupted Quest: Kewl thing. I dont exactly want that headgear but the pwnage is great SMILEY
Summa summarum: Keep up the good work SMILEY

Oh, you're fine with having twenty players wasting two hours of their lives waiting for a poor chance to fight a corruptor? Might as well replace all of the firearms with water pistols instead. Glad I never bothered with the most problematic content like this *Gives middle fingers to Manic*

I think the difficulty is fine. Someone with a life will probably be able to participate in around 4 spawns per day, averaging 15 frags per spawn. It will take them approximately a week to get the top tier item which sounds about right. What I'm worried about is killing the big guys 5 times in order to get the other codes, it will take a lot of insecticides and coordination. If you're not part of a big faction or aren't the kind of player who can form 2 teams of players purely to kill the lvl 100 NPCs then you're going to have a hard time getting the other 5 parts.

i still think the time given by rarebit (can't find his post, but i think he said around 45 minutes) is still way, way too long. when coming to play a game like this, every single second counts in some way, shape or form. and i certainly don't think its a particularly productive use of anyones time in game to basically stand round bathary for up to 45 minutes hoping some monsters show up. for those that can afford to play for hours at a time, its not really a big deal. but i do wonder how many players are cut out from even attempting to do this because of the crazy amounts of standing around before you even get to do the thing.

wasn't there a post on here from someone a while back laughing at how stupid people were for looking at a "you'll be able to play in 45 minutes" screen in world of warcraft?

congratulations everyone, we've now just been given the same experience.

Thank you, QFT. I'd rather spend my 45 minutes grinding a liaison officer or a lowbie friend instead of waiting for some high-level NPC to show up. The fact that the collectibles are non-stackable and drop rates that are as bad as an RSI pill just pushed me away from participating in the quest.

#36300250286 06/01/2007 01:26:33 Re:Update 52 Discussion
I was hoping that the corrupter quest would revolve around getting 1-3 people or so, going to a warehouse in Bathary, and having mini corruptors (the corrupted bluepills) spawn quickly on each player - like the zombies in the halloween event. I thought it would take ages to get all the stuff, but it'd be fairly interesting.

I wasn't hoping for a quest that would involve getting more players than above (most of the population of a server it seems) to wait in places in Bathary, at random, for hours, trying to get a spawn, whilst needing 40 free inventory slots again and again to make corrupted archives. Geez. A great range of gameplay for levels 30-50 they say. Blah.

Other than the corruptor encounter quest, I think nearly everything else in the update has worked how I wanted it to.

I did notice that when attacking the Bathary Boys mobs, some of them, as normal, were patchers. They tried to heal each other, but with the new 'have to be in a party' thing, they did the 'casting' effect, but nothing happened.

Ah well, fairly good patch, but please fix the timers for those of us who are in different timezones to most, don't have enough contacts to get enough people organised together for a spawn, or without hours to spend doing nothing, just waiting, when we could be having fun on other games.

Oh you're fine with getting everything easy, lol, you LOVE grinding lowbies...

Anyways, the only problem I see is that the codes don't stack which makes it really hard for lvl 50's, especially those who like to use multiple disciplines (clothing) or the collectors...to have enough room to even get ahold of an archive.  Other than that I think it's a nice change to have people gathering in other parts of the city (Bathory pvp FTW SMILEY SMILEY, and to have a decent challenge in order to get the new items.

As for the luggables, yeah, there's a few problems with them, but I love the dynamic the luggables add to pvp, mixes things up a bit.

Finally, has anyone noticed problems with abs breaking a lot again?  I had to relog twice because I couldn't even load a new gun from my inventory....either way, I like what the new update brings to the game, but it'll be that much better when the bugs get sorted out SMILEY

a sizable chunk of the challenge shouldn't come from having to stand round for up to 45 minutes though. heck, i could *just* about stand round for 15 minutes at a stretch, but anything more than that? meh. even IF they dropped it to 15 minutes a spawn - which i doubt they'd do - just four runthroughs of this thing has cost you an hour of your life milling around doing nothing.

which is insane.

LOL, tell that to any of the Tabor West regulars

Either way, as for the challenge I meant that it is hard to kill the corrupted buggers without endangering yourself (ie you actually have a chance of dying). The waiting around part makes it so people arent able to knock out the new items in the first week of the patch like the Area K.  And if you cant take the waiting around, just bring a radio DJ, they make standing around doin' nothing fun SMILEY (semi serious joke, please dont flame SMILEY  )

What do you think people do at Tabor West?  At least here you're waiting for something that will provide some sort of gain...hell, bring a radio DJ, they make standing around doin' nothing fun SMILEY (semi-serious joke, please dont flame SMILEY SMILEY

if thats what they do there and they get something out of it - be it hanging round talking, or having a dance off or whatever - fine. but to anyone on a limited timeframe in terms of playing the game without the luxury of "a few more hours either side of regular gaming time", its pretty much a non starter. i don't dance at hardlines or talk about xbox games while logged in, i want to run around and do stuff. i most definitely do not want to have to wait up to 40 minutes on the not-100%-definite off chance that some corrupted might spawn for me.

it seems to me the actual task of fighting these things is pretty difficult as is, anyway. so why bother with such a painful artificial nerf as a way of attempting to make the content last longer? heck, if they gotta nerf anything, nerf my character or zap my health down to ten bars or cut my legs off and have me bite the corrupted on the kneecaps or something. but PLEASE - don't get into nerfs that revolve around huge timesinks. its a surefire way to have people look at the first really major addition to the game in some time, roll their eyes and think "enough is enough, i'm off to play something that doesn't involve standing around waiting for something that might not even happen for forty minutes at a time".

if too many people want to blitz through the missions and then complain there's "no new content" after a week, thats their problem. the rest of us shouldn't be punished for their inability to pace themselves in the stupidest way possible.

Yeah, i think the devs really need to take our feedback on board for this and rebalance it accordingly.

Long wait timers like 45 minutes are rediculous like pghost said. 15 at most sounds good to me.

The difficulty of killing the big guy also needs re-evaluating. I mean, its fine to have good group content but hitting 15dmg a spray? When the sprays are collector items? And the boss has a set time to kill before it dissapears? Uncool.

A few issues with the quest mission, but frankly, I'm glad it's nothing something people will not be able to get done in 1 day and say.. "next". However, I will say that the reward in regard to the quest should have a few more buffs to make it even more worth while.

Uhm... Complete Corrupters in the Assassin piece of story were level 255, and, like the current level 100 ones, require you to spray them with insecticide to damage them.
I know i was there!!!But things have changed since then....
