You'd have to be more specific--as in, exact: what characters, what (if they're PCs) their body size is, what they're wearing, post a screenshot, etc. I've run around in Live with Personal Firewall on (that was part of what I was doing at Mara C the other day, since I'd seen and heard a few mentions of Personal Firewall being an issue) and didn't see it cause problems beyond what's already there related to clothing and NPCs.

Hmm... I'll have a looky later and post here.

Legs go firewally, used to still display boxors I'm sure.

Derin sheen pants go firewally when wearing direwolf style trench.

Fx go all firewally, leaves, pingeons, smoke, code etc

With shadows on full, when you hyper jump with the camera y axis above a certain point the world goes firewally.

With shadows off the entire world goes firewally, seemingly at random relations to camera angle. When you open your inventory at the same time it goes paler but still messed up. Blackwood mushflake npc seems to have some effect when in close proximity, getting rid of the wirewall fx entirely from your character (and the resulting buggyness) despite the buff still running.

Have screenshots but need to crop em and jazz. Think they'll still help?

Couldn't hurt. You also didn't mention what gender/body size your RSI is.

#36300536417 01/18/2009 13:50:39 Re:Vista Issues with The Matrix Online.

Oh, im a Male, body size 2.

Tested this with a mate as well (with the same results), think he's the same but can't be sure.

Screenies:

Note, this set is with character shadows off and shows the 'angle boundries' where the world goes weird. Seems to be related to compass direction maybe?

Co-ords are on if you wanna go test yourself sometime.

Before and After

Now the same area with shadows on full doesn't have the issue at all (not even randomly like I mentioned happened around the mushflake but the code from the target reticule (so FX) still loses detail.

Now this is interesting... Before and After. Wasn't doing this the other night O.o

NPCs (shadows on)

NPCs (shadows off)

Ew. Okay, it looks like the "flows like water" thing will happen when there's a player character in your view with Firewall+gloves, no NPCs visible, and shadows off (or while hyperjumping, where you can't see your shadow). It gets worse when you close your Inventory panel.

Looks like I can fix this, but I'll have to set all player gloves to a "Skin" surface type. That means they'll go shiny when you use Firewall. It also means I may have to ditch some of their surface effects, like the ridges on the Elite Commando gloves.

EDIT: Can also get it with the SSR Helmet and the Inventory panel closed.

EDIT: Doesn't happen with fingerless gloves (Kunoichi, etc)

EDIT: Except that it does happen with the fingerless Arasiki Threaders for body size 1 and 3 males, due to a long-hidden error in their component settings (wheeee)

Current version of update note for this (going to target update 66, but it'll probably take a lot of testing, so we'll see):

Fixed texture rendering problems visible while running the game under Windows Vista. The fixes will be mostly transparent for Windows XP users, although users of both operating systems will see a few minor visual changes here and there, including:
- construct "Warrior" NPCs and Wasteland Corruptors will disappear from view past ~60 meters
- Elite Commando Gloves will no longer have visible bumpy ridges
- non-fingerless gloves, and the neck section of the SSR Helmet, will get the Personal Firewall effect along with the player's skin
- small semi-transparent strips will be visible next to the character when a coatless small male RSI, or a player disguised as a female Hel Club Guard, uses Sneak
- tattoos will no longer be visible under some women's dresses/shirt/coat combinations that previously allowed part of the chest tattoo to show around the edge of the clothing

Noooooooooooooooooo, is there nothing you can do to save my sweet, sweet, commando gloves? Like a new, similar, but not game breaking effect? Like you did with the PB Sim guys?

This'll practically make them black formals :'(

Heh, noticed that too. Wonder what Rare's trying to imply? =O

Nope. Vista needs a "Skin" material used on them in order not to flip out with Firewall, and none of the "Skin" materials support bump maps.

After playing with Windows 7 tonight, I've come up with yet another possible work around for Vista/7 users (some may have already figured this out, but many people probably don't)

NVIDIA (and ATi I believe) has the ability to override some graphical features used in any application.  In this instance, I decided to use NVIDIA AntiAliasing instead of MxO's, with the goal of being able to take snapshots fullscreen.  On my rig, this turned out to work splendidly.  My system could support 16x, so that is what I chose.  I left the option unchecked within the game just incase, and removed any references in my useropts.  Again, its working for me.  Oh, and I couldn't use 16xQ, else the fullscreen window was off (could only see like a small part).  I was able to take photos while full-screened with the high quality.

You might also want to add, it'll only work if Overbright and GreenShift filters are off.

Hmm, you're absolutely right.  FPS goes down the sinkhole with those filters on.

Even after the update 66 with it's vista fixes I still have a problem.  When I go into sneak I sometimes loose my taskbar and player names for 10 seconds or so at a time, also when I change background from highest frame rate to average or high detail I loose all player names and faction tags, also I still get black screenshots. not much of a inprovement if you ask me. hope there will be another fix at some point in time but it don't look likely.

Yeah, there is still *a lot* of bugs around for it, hm. Try turning character shadows: off. See if that will fix it, if not that's all about you can do.

Edit: And oh yes for the Blank Screeshots, make sure Anti-Alaising is OFF on the in-game options or useropts.

Well the good news is, at the end of this long, sloppy road, The Matrix Online appears to work rather well with Windows 7.  I have been testing it since before update 66, when for the umpteenth time I turned on my Vista machine and it decided today was another day in which winboot.exe would be corrupted or not found, and the entire system was lost and could not be restored.

If anyone's interested, I might start a thread with details.

I was also testing the game with windows 7 and had a much better experience than with vista.
