Based on what we saw in the movies inside the cloud is a constant electrical storm that effectivly kills any system that enters it, meaning that the voltage must be extremely high. Lets say for a moment someone built a lightening rod that was tall enough to enter darkstorm, would they be able to actually harvest the electrical power, funnel it down the lightening rod into alot of transformers and then use it as a source of energy?
Could DarkStome be harvested

According to both the director's commentary in "The Second Renaissance Part II" and the Revolutions script, the clouds are either created by or consist of nanomachines. Since we don't fully understand how it works, it's possible that the nanomachines seek out anything electrical and short it out instead of creating constant electricity. If so, then simply building a lightening rod might not work.

Whoa, nanomachines? Awesome. I never thought of that...
Soooo if all thats true then the machines coudl build a giant lighting rod and absorb the energy from the sky insted of useing human heat/energy for power? Interesting.
In case anyone wants to read about them, here's the part in Mahiro Maeda's commentary ...
"And the bombs being dropped are not normal bombs but house micromachines, or nanomachines, and they will destroy the sky and bring darkness upon the world. And they will be distributed, on a large scale, all over the world, blocking the sun in order to shut off the robots' power source. And they plan to dismantle the robots while they are inoperative. That was Operation Dark Storm."
And this is from the Revolutions script ...
"The Logos plunges into the sky with a surreal splash, like a plane crashing into a sea of shaving cream.
The molecular replicators immediately drain the life from the Sentinels and they fall dead--"
And I do have the Revolutions scriptbook (I got it with the Ultimate Matrix Collection, along with the scripts for the other two movies), so this isn't second hand information.

If DS is made of Nanomachines couldn't the Machines interface with them?
Or at least send Agent Pace... clear that problem right up.
no i think the humas of that era would have hard coded the nanites to prevent such an eventuality.
darkstorm was a stoke of genious and stupidity for the humans of that era, as why send up chemicals which may only have a half life of maybe a decade or so.
the only problem is that seeing as there nanites, probably emp shielded and damm near indestuctible, how would you get rid of them, i mean if you sent nukes against them sure you would blow a hole for a few miniutes, but then they would just spread out again.
The interesting thing is where do they get the materials to replicate.
also heres a question for you, if hte machines found a wat to destroy darkstorm, would they do it, or would they keep it in place to keep the humans in zion.

I believe the replication is from a nano-bots ability to change atoms around it as it is programmed to do. If I understood the Nano-Technology pages I've read.
