It's in other boards but as far as I know it's not been brought up recently and I wanna see this one changed a little.
We all know that Data Miner is being split into extracting $i from the matrix and into searching for luggables, in response to the christmas event luggable as a trialI've decided to level it. I was messing around with the Data Tap and I think that it's a really great idea and it's sad that nobody seems to use it.
Reasons nobody uses it
takes longer than missions
No Rare items
Missions sometimes give NPC's large $i to drop
Farming much Quicker
those are the main points why Data Miner isn't used, mainly because it's much quicker to join a team of noobs and do a few missions. now obviously we can't get Rare Items, but I think we can maybe either increase the amount you get, or decrease the time it takes to extract information, or a combination of both. In higher level area's you get about 10k max. If we increased it to say 25k then that would certainly make it much more worth doing, and some of the larger nodes maybe contained one big 200-400k drop then that would encourage more people to use it.
When this idea was originally thought up it was a great idea, and I know that we've had problems with afk mining in the past but it's a shame to let certain abilities remain covered with dust.
Yeh i agree. I think the timer should be made shorter on the data tap or make it where you can tap all the data at once from the big ones. That way you wouldnt have to tap them four times to get all the info from them which takes forever. Also the amount they give could stand to be raised just a little as you suggested.
As you stated, the afk mining was a problem, but there are ways to help prevent this. The main one would be to greatly increase the info they give (maybe 100-200k per) but spread them far, far apart. Because honestly, right now, they are so close together you can just walk in a straight line and keep clicking tap node, which means it would be super easy to create a macro for.
Another way i thought of to get around afk mining, would be like for some sort of code entry to come up each time you tap a node. For example, you are under a node. Then you click to tap the data node. A message will come up telling you to type in a random 4 digit number that it gives you or something like that. If you enter in that number correctly, you get the info, if it is incorrect, you will fail the attempt. This way it would not be possible to afk mine.

it's a nice idea apart from the fact it would need a new UI window, which I'm not sure how long would take to setup.
Yeh, its prolly more work than the devs would want to do for data mining, even though it would just have to be a keypad of sorts with the numbers 0-9 on it and nothing really fancy. But yeh it prolly aint gonna happen.
Hopefully something will be done in a measure to prevent afk mining though. Because i believe if they were confident there was no afk mining going on, they would greatly increase the benefits of data mining.

not really anyway you can do afk mining, you can stand there with a constant macro going but you don't get new nodes spawning, you have to move and come back for them to re-appear I think so theoretically it shouldn't be possible, and about the high $i ones, maybe they should be shown in red on the map and should be very rare, that way if you see one, you'll be instantly drawn to it.
as for afk mining right now, all you would have to do is make a macro of your character walking forward like a half foot, then using data tap, then walk forward another half foot, then use data tap, because they are literally that close. you could just set your macro to make the character go all the way down a long street then slide over a little bit and go back up the street. after the whole street has been covered, your character goes back to where it started and keeps repeating that.
and yes i know this is not allowed, and i have not done this, im just trying to show the devs that people could make a pretty simple macro (not the in-game macros) and just have a character keep farming an area and it would be pretty efficient due to the close proximity of the nodes.
anybody who does that according to the EULA should be banned anyway.
Yes, that is the whole point. To afk mine, you would have to be breaking the EULA. And the whole problem here is it wouldnt be that hard at all to do. Since afk gameplay cant easily be monitored, preventative measures should be taken to prevent it. Instead we got hundreds of small data mines that are really, really close together almost as if they are encouraging it.

well I hope they read this, I posted it here rather than the Dev thread as the Dev thread I don't think is even considered.
Yeh hopefully the devs will realize this and change it up some. i definitely like your idea of more rare, but bigger data mines that give much more info, instead of about 100 small, one-tap ones that are really close together.

The devs did change the nodes up, they increased the info rate fourfold (go mining around Creston Heights). When 'luggables' are released, data miner will be even more valuable.

wow didn't know that it had been put up recently, but it's still a tad too low and it takes way too long to extract $i, I think it's about 10 seconds for about 10k per time, and isn't really much and I do think it should have a rare $i Bonus.
Not only had the $info output been quadrupled (You can make millions in just an hour! O_o), but some of the Developers mentioned that they had been thinking about putting in a feature that allowed you to gain Red Frags from a tap. I wish they had put that in...I still wonder if they've found out if they could actually do that or not..
Yes I am aware that the rate has been quadrupled fairly recently. And yes i always do my mining in Creston. But I still think it is not high enough. It is far less efficient than grinding missions, which is unfortunate. Thats not even to mention the PB arc 3 mish which is far better. I believe that data tapping should be the most efficient way to make info. I mean its like picking money off of a money tree (you know how your parents always said you cant go pick money off of a tree), but now you can lol.
I like the idea of having fewer nodes but making them worth much more. That way it helps deter afk mining but can also make it more worthwhile for the people who want to use it right.
