Nearly every thread I see in here has X amount of people responding to it saying "never gonna happen, would take too long, no resources, not a large enough DEV team", etc.  The last part seems to be accurate as far as I know.

A new Matrix film would be an excellent marketing vehicle for MXO.  I doubt this is going to happen although a friend of mine said he read an article with the Wachowski's in RollingStone that said they were working on a prequel to what we've all seen in the current trilogy.  Don't quote me on that as I have not read said article and have not found anyting about it on the net.

That aside, my question is, is there anything we (the community) can do to get the word out on MXO and successfully bring more people into the game and generate more bling to make this game what it *CENSORED* well should already have been a year ago?  I mean beyond the free trials and word of mouth.  Can the people at SOE or the ones working on MXO give us any ideas/thoughts on this?  I mean, we've got the time.  Look how many hours we've been in-game with very little variety and content for well over a year.

My faction (The Daemon Contingency-Recursion) is looking at some things we could do.  Like t-shirts and hats and cards etc, coupled with word of mouth.  What else can we do?

as I said in some other thread, the best way for the players is mainly word of mouth, best thing if you play another not MMO but something like Raven Shield and are in a clan, clans are usually very keen gamers and will try something so if yer in a clan tell em all about MxO and if you are really good at writing, unlike myself, go write an article about MxO and send it off to a gaming mag about how brilliant MxO is compared to before and we may get a bit more subscriptions, which means more money which means more resources which means, more content!!!!!

Mxo community blog of some mint screenshots to show people how top the game really looks, ie http://mxopics.blogspot.com/ but one for all the community to post to, password shud be provided via a pm on forums.. /thoughts?

MxO wasn't even released properly in Australia.
I'd been waiting for the game for years, then when I go to check up on it's progress, I find that it's already been running for 6 months. I went to game stores and even senior game store clerks hadn't heard of it's release and the computer said it was cancelled.

I ordered off the net and got myself in game but if it wasn't for my own curiosity I would have never joined.

I think if the change over had been handled better and the marketing and communication had been handled better so major countries don't miss out, we wouldn't have population issues that we have now.

On the topic of fixing things, you need some more devs to implement the great ideas that are in the dev rountable.

Yep, thats exactly the problem, there was never an official release over here. Though I am working on getting some friends to join, a few people at my Uni are talking of quitting WoW and starting this.

MxO was released in NZ around April this year (2006) with no fanfare whatsoever.  Sadness. 
Some ideas for boosting awareness:

 - Display "Free your mind with The Matrix Online" next to your messenger screen name. 
 - Make black and white stencils to spraypaint on local walls. 
 - Make more excellent movies to upload to sites like YouTube. 
 - Write articles and reviews for magazines, websites, forums, newspapers etc.
 - Link to the MxO site from your webpage or homepage. 
 - Make ad-banners for MxO and get them into the rotation on your favourite website. 
 - Tell everyone you know.  Everyone. 

Oh and someone tell Penny Arcade how awesome MxO is.  I don't think I need to describe the awesome power of the Wang.

here's what i comes down to:

mxo is basically a mediocre game.  99% of the people that play the game are hardcore fans of the series, and that's the game's biggest selling point: immersion into the movie trilogy.

so the huge number of gamers throughout the world that AREN'T big fans of the trilogy have no incentive whatsoever to play it.  Every feature that MxO has is done better in other MMOs.  The only way of MxO can be saved is if MxO2 is made.

in reality there's nothing that can be done with this game other than minor improvements to appease the current subscriber base, which is dwindling anyways.

i'm very sorry to be the bearer of bad news =(

That's your opinion.

More commonly, MxO is a great game which is steadily improving but still lacking in a significant player base.  Yes there are the hardcore fans of the movies, but actually the vast majority are not "hardcore" movie fans, they watched the movies and were inspired to pick up their first MMO because it had familiarity.

 No, this game does not have the wide range appeal (to kids) of WoW but it does have some truly unique and excellent elements that provide significantly better gameplay than a number of other MMOs. 

Take Interlock for instance (arguably the games greatest feature) no other game handles combat the same way.  Interlock is intersting, unique, and looks astonishing...in my opinion far better than "wham pow zoom" combat of say, World of Warcraft.

Much like the Tabloids, your bad news is entirely biased in its report.

Hey don't forget our unique stat/ability systems, no one else lets you completely customise your character's skills at a whim.

word of mouth is a very poor way to try to bring in new players, and I'll explain why.

how do you have a conversation with a friend and actually be able to answer key questions and actually answer honestly and say good things about this game.

someone asks you about endgame content, there's pvp, and RP, both depend entirelly on player interaction.

person your talking to in response asks you about the games population, to which you reply by saying the game is dying and has a dwindling playerbase.

person asks you how hard is it to get to 50, to which you reply by saying, its a long, and very very boring grind.

person asks you about new content, to which you reply, im still asking the same question because this game hasnt had any truely new content in awhile and mission packs hardly qualify as conent.

person asks you what is the combat system like, and on this question will very depending on your stance and how long you've played this game, if your a veteran pvper, you'd probably say the best days in this game are long since over because CR2 is complete trash, and if your a veteran RP'er you can tell them how the new combat animations "flow" and look beter, and if you never saw CR1 you can just give an unbiased opinion because you've never known any different.

So in trying to recruit new people to this game, I would deffinetly say internet advertising and showing people a flashy ingame movie that makes the game look cooler than it is would be the way to go, because by the time the realize the things I just listed above you'll have already milked them for a few months worth of subscriptions, and if they met some cool people here, they might stick around just so they can continue playing with the friends that they've met.

Recruitment? I just had my friends play the game, and I must say, they did like it. But due to there not being any players they decided not to play. To which my only reply was.

"Do you know how many other people use that same lame excuse?"
